Park WiFi - Works on The Nokia E61

It seems as if Nokia's N-series of devices often get some innovative software before they are available on other devices (read: before they are available on the E-series). Often, these applications also work (more or less) on the E-Series devices.

This is true for Nokia's Park WiFi application suite. Although the application is for Nokia N80 and N91, it works on the Nokia E61. Because the application is not optimized for the Nokia E61 there is a great deal of unused screen real estate.

The suite contains three separate applications - Park Channels, ParkCast and Park WiFi Detector.

Park Channels contains various content from media companies, for an example NY Times.

Park Cast is application which lets you listen to various local NY radio stations and Park Wifi Detector is… a WiFi Detector.

The application is available for download here. I picked the N91 version. As I mentioned, the application is not optimized for the Nokia E61 so expect some anomalies.

Park Cast is nice, I couldn’t get Park Channels to work. Screen opens etc, but how do I add a channel?

  2. quara Says:

I’ve installed Park Wi-fi Suite, but ParkCast doesn’t work on my E70: I can’t connect to the server for the streaming.

Someone know how i can do that?

    Thanks

You see there’s an E61 firmware update available? Here’s to hoping they show the E70 some love soon…

  5. Jay Says:

Do i have to install all 3 apps or can i also only install the Park Wifi Detector ?

    Tks,

    Jay

Hmm, I will have to get back to my home wifi to try it but the N80 version scales well with the E70 screen. However, the autorotation doesn’t work nor does the WiFi detector. Any other E70 comments? Qara?

Did you try with WAP access point, with Internet access point or with WLAN? Atleast it works nicely with my E61 using internet access point and 3G as well as WLAN.

  8. admin Says:

    Hi Jay,
All three apps will install but you can then uninstall the apps you don’t want.

    Hi Alvin,
I used it with my WLAN.

    Hi JP,
I am eagerly awaiting the new firmware. I hope it will show up on Nokia Software Updater.
    Cheers

Wow! Today was a busy day with all the apps: Park WIFI, IM Programs, updates, etc. Thanks for the great tips on cool stuff. Especially Park WIFI as I’m in NYC…

Since there’s a new “JP” I’ll be “JPP”…I chose the N80 version on my E61 and everything works well.

  11. admin Says:

    JPP & JP,
    Are you related ;-)

    JP,
    >as I’m in NYC…
Good for you as you can really benefit from the application. I’m in SF but still downloaded them. I like the radio stations and the NY Times part.

    Cheers

Can any E70 users actually view the Channels? The app installed fine on mine, and it even acted like it was downloading data. But once it was complete, I couldn’t figure out how to view the channels.

I was able to get streaming audio, but I’m more interested in the Channels!

  13. GL Says:

Park Cast is great, thanks for this, look forward to reading about more great free products working on the E61

i had no problem with the new york times channel on my E70.

On my E70, Channels worked fine - I love the NY Times. What a great content delivery system. Kind of like Opera Mini, but optimized for news. I hope they follow up with other news services.

Unfortunately I couldn’t get any of the streaming audio working over my home router. Could it be a port forwarding issue? I always get an “unable to connect to server” message, no matter what audio channel I select.

Hi, I’ve compared my e-61 WIFI with Imate Jam, the lan detection cappability of e-61 is lower than Imate scan capability. Is there any technical reason for that, moreover any software avaiable to enhance the scanning power
