Nokia E61 Spare Parts
Let's hope that you don't need this information but if you ever break the screen (Heaven forbid!) or the keyboard of your Nokia E61, you can buy spare Nokia E61 parts here. It's good to know that spare parts are available for the Nokia E61 and the rest of the E-series. devices.
Say that you scratch your Nokia E61 beyond recognition - then order a complete new casing for the E61 or just order the parts that you need. Handy-Designer can sell you the whole casing of the Nokia E61 or just a specific part.
One reader of the blog ordered the English keyboard of the Nokia E61 so that he could replace the Arabic keyboard that the unit came with.

If you are real hard core you order the complete casing and then walk over to your local auto body shop and have them custom paint your Nokia E61. Then you send me the exclusive pictures
UPDATE:
Alan told me that Cellular Nationwide Network also is selling Nokia E61 keyboards and the LCD screen
Thanks to E61addicted for the insipration!

My local Nokia Service Center got parts and a reasonable price for repairing E61 phones. They do it as I wait and can see everything they do
Now thats to my liking.
I once saw how they repaired a SonyEricsson screen and damn thats some small parts needed for mobile phones

That means after marker bodies will be available for E-61 , is it easy to change them ? Can I get one totally black in color , i scratched the back of my E 61 , never keep them it with keys in your pocket , i finally got a black leather belt case ( cost $ 2.5 ) and just asked my purchaser to get me a silicon pouch ( $ 1.5 ) , the crystal case is avaiable for only $ 2.00 but the shop keeper told me that they do not fit perfectly so didn’t purchased them . I am also going to go to the market today to get me an Audio Adapter ( Made As Nokia ) and working on trying a Headset Camera available with old Nokia 7610 to work on E61

Does this mean that after changing an arabic keyboard and changing the firmware, I could get a english version one? How hard is it to change firmware, not flashing but selecting the proper one for the new firmware?
September 16th, 2006 at 6:36 am
Thats great, I also am looking to replace my keypad with an English one since the Arabic/English hybrid is very distracting when typing. I will need a little bit of help though determining what needs to be done to the firmware of these devices when doing so since the button locations change.

Wonderful news indeed. I am looking for an Arabic keyboard. If you don’t need yours, I don’t mind having/buying it. My current one is Spanish Qwerty. Please contact me at khidhir at gmail dot com.
But first, is it possible to add another language, in this case Arabic, to the E61?
Thanks.
September 16th, 2006 at 7:04 pm
Yes it is possible to add the Arabic language to your E61, all you would need is to download the corresponding firmware to your device. It may be trial and error but you definitely can do it.

Upon going to the site, I have the keyboard which is the lower of the two choices. It’s not the English one… Perhaps it’s a spanish version? Could I change the keyboard and remap the keys? If so, how?
Thanks!

Can that shop take orders from the USA. Also, is there an english version of the page? If not, does anyone knows a place where I can purchase an OEM housing for the E61 that sips to the USA? Thanks
September 17th, 2006 at 10:44 am
I emailed the site and they ship to Canada for 10 euro, so i guess it would be 10 euro to the usa. Also they ship air.

This keyboard swap thing is great - I need something that will support swedish, finnish, danish, icelandic and german (as well as english); can anyone tell me what input languages the e61 generally supports (assuming one is purchased unlocked from an importer in the states)?
I really don’t want to have to use key combinations for öäåæðþ, etc…, but rather have them mapped as keys in their own right.
Also, is it possible to toggle input languages/keyboard layouts on the fly (like in xp?)
Thanks,
Roy

Just a note - that website is not based in Canada (.ca), but in China (.cn)

Thanks for the heads up. I corrected the post.

If anyone is looking for an alternative site, this place http://cnn.cn/shop/nokia-e61-c-24_160.html?osCsid=57c531b7319a50c1dc8c85562001f011 has them as well, and a few members on howardforums have had very good experiences. They are also located in China, and I am not sure if the two sites are affiliated or not.
September 20th, 2006 at 3:18 am
Today I searched on the cnn.cn, but apparently the only available thing is the LCD, no more keypad…
Does anyone know which place sells this keypad?
I need them since my firmware is Europe and my keypad is English.
I’ve tried to flash the firmware to English but could not success.

TRY A PAINT PEN — REALLY!
I like many others purchased the e61 on eBay and was suprised to recieve the English/Arabic keypad. These phones have such little keys that crowding them with two or three characters per key is way confusing. I read this thread on replacing the keyboard and tried for a few days to find one but had no luck. Yesterday I decided to chase a hairbrained idea. I went by my local art supply store and purchased a “Sharpie Silver Metalic” marker and basically “colored over” the Arabic characters. Sure you can see the “painted” surface if you look closely but it is very subtle. The marker is almost an exact match in color. This also works in low lighting — the English keys are back lit, the Arabic are totally blocked out. The pen cost me $3.50.

I have an e61 with a spanish keyboard and would like to swap it out to be an english/euro one like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/e-series/230393919/
I can swap the physical keyboard easily enough, but my understanding is that the firmware controls the key mappings. And the Nokia firmware updater just reads your phone’s product code (mine is 0529664) and installs the matching firmware language version without you being able to select it. Does anybody know how to select what firmare languange version gets installed, or how to change my product code so I get the one I want automattically? BTW: what product number matches the keyboard layout pictured above?
I’d appreciate any help you can give. justin at richard dot name

Anyone know where I can get a replacement LCD cover - the plastic piece that sits on top of the LCD, i.e. what you touch if you put your finger on the LCD? (The LCD is underneath the clear cover, and I’ve scratched my cover).

Just to let everyone know- http://www.blueunplugged.com has the oem housings. Finally found one!

Hi
I already sent this note to Ed, but I though to send it to the community maybe someone can help!
First I would like to thank you for such excellent job. Your site information was the main reason I decided to buy Nokia E61 instead of other smart phones.
I need your help. I live in Canada but sometimes I wish to browse Arabic sites on the internet plus I receive email from my brother in Arabic language. My question is how to add the Arabic font or coding to my E61 so that I can read emails and browse websites?
Thanks for your kind help.

Hi, Every one. I’ve had my e61 for about 3 weeks and I’ve noticed my joystick is getting very loose. It has a lot of play. Is there any way of tightening it up or do I have to replace it and if I do, where can I get one? Thanks for the help.

Hi people!
During long New Year’s night I’ve broken the screen of my Nokia E61
Now I’m looking forward to repair it… Local service center don’t have any screens for E61 at that moment.
My question is: does anyone used one of those posted links and bought anything from mentioned sites? I’m a little bit scared, because the first one is from China and the second one doesn’t look responsible.
What can YOU say, my dear E61 community?

anyone have a problem with dust in their e61 screens i can barely see my screen right now its out of hand what should i do buy a new one or send it back to nokia under warranty
March 1st, 2007 at 1:03 am
the e61 can be taken apart and the lcd screen separates into lcd component and light plastic shield. All you need to do this is a T5 and T6 torx head screwdriver. Then there’s a couple of sites with basic instructions, like
http://blog.petralli.net/2006/08/08/taking-apart-a-nokia-e61/
With the lcd screen, the connector to take it off has to be gently prised away from the board in the right spot: take note of pics on the web of how the lcd screen looks before doing this (search for e61 parts, one site to look at is http://cnn.cn/shop/nokia-e61-c-24_160.html . Then the metal plate that holds the front plastic shield just pops away from the lcd component itself with the insertion of a small screwdriver at various points going gently around the assembly.
Clean it up, put it back together, and you’re done.

I have searched all of the recommended sites for parts in the thread, but I cannot find a replacement joystick for my e70. Does anyone know where I might get one?
March 30th, 2007 at 1:45 am
A few people are saying that there is a plastic screen protector over the screen. I don’t see this in the photos. Is this correct? Is there a screen protector and if so do you know where I can buy a new one?

Ive been working with tolearnarabic.com studying Arabic in Damascus, Syria, a really excellent program BTW. I tried to get the Arabic language download for the Nokia E61 as you said, since after learning some Arabic I really want to text people with it! But it seems like it is no longer available? Has this model been completely discontinued or is it still around?
I like your blog btw!
Ciao,
Alexa
