Welcome to the family - Black Nokia E70

I recently got my hands on a black Nokia E70. It's still way to early to give an in depth review of it but I've been wanting to get one since it was announced with the other E-series devices. (The Nokia E61, E60 and the E70). I plan to use the Nokia E61 as my primary device Monday - Friday, when the larger keyboard will come in handy and then Nokia E70 as my weekend device. Since I can get my corporate email on both of them I should be covered in case I need to check my email over the weekends. The smaller form factor of the Nokia 70 makes it a perfect weekend device. It's also got a camera - another "weekend" feature. Expect more posts about this device as I set it up and try it out.

dude, where did you get a black one? is it 850/1900?!

  2. admin Says:

    It’s sweet, isn’t it.

  3. Michael Says:

    please tell me it’s 850/1900.

  4. Geoff Says:

Yes, please share where you got it and how you found a black one. I got a silver one and while it’s great, I like the look of the black one much better.

Also: as everyone else is asking: is it 850?

Mine is 900 and has been getting full reception in manhattan, but i have yet to leave the city and am not so sure the reception will be as good elsewhere.

  5. Jim Hughes Says:

It’s not going to work on 850MHz if it’s the World model - the E70 is triband 900/1800/1900 (World) or 850/1800/1900 (US) - http://feetup.org/wiki/NokiaE70

  6. TheZodiac Says:

There are two versions: E70-1 and E70-2. The 2 is the US version. I am torn between the E61 and the E70… not sure which one to get.

I have seen plenty of E61s @850, but no E70s. This is important ;)

  7. admin Says:

    Hi TheZodiac,
The E70 and the E61 are two really good devices so you can’t go wrong with either one.

However, consider the keyboard size and overall device size.

I find it easier to type on the E61 but the “price” you pay for that is the larger form factor compared to the E70.
On the other hand I sometime feel that the E61 is a bit too big to be a comfortable weekend device. The E70 is smaller and therefore more suitable for weekends.

I got both devices and the main reason was the size. Both devices have a great feature set but I wanted something WITH a QWERTY keyboard but SMALLER for the weekends so I got the E70.

  8. Phil Says:

I’ve been using the E61 since February and absolutely love it, but I’m eargerly awaiting the E70 (I can’t get my hands on a proto to keep unfortunately) because…

    1. The E61 requires you to hold down a special button in order to use numbers and other characters, on the E70 the numbers have their own buttons
    2. Camera
    3. Higher resolution (although S60 seems to really love this QVGA)

  9. WilfredR Says:

Again someone who would like to have a black Nokia E70 in stead of the silver one which is now out everywere
    P.S. I’m in the Netherlands.

  10. KC Says:

I am trying to setup email account in my silver E70 and accessing the account using both GPRS and WiFi but it keep on prompt error. The error is “Internet : Server not found”. Anyone encounter this before? Is this a bug?

Other than this, I think this is a great phone with great features.

  11. zarbazana Says:

are e61 and e70 thermes compatible?and can you tell me pls how can i make my own themes for e70 (which software use and such…)
    thnx

  12. e111 Says:

Just got my e70 and love it…except I cannot get my internet to connect. I downloaded the settings from Nokia and have tried everything for over 8 hours! I’m getting so frustrated!!! I have tried every possible access point configuration and nothing! Can anyone help–I have Cingular.

  13. admin Says:

    Hi e111,
Here is what I would do:
    1. Confirm that my data plan works on a different device
    2. Completely erase everything from the E70 (back up necessary information) see the faq and codes section for how to do a hard reset.
    3. Try to get connected using the generic access point “Internet GPRS” *without* pushing down the Nokia settings. I use Cingular and my data connections works without having them pushed down from the website.
    4. If that doesn’t work download the settings and try each Access Point that you get from Cingular.

  14. e111 Says:

Could I be this stupid…I got this phone as a gift from my cousin from the Philippines. Could it be that I’m using a 900/1800/1900 in north america? Or is there something I can do?

  15. paul Says:

we still haven’t found out if this phone is the european 900 model or a prototype of the us 850 model. i am assuming that you have one of the european models.

can you clear this up for us?

  16. e111 Says:

i definitely have a european model…900/1800/1900. everything is working fantastically–just cannot get my internet access points through cingular to work.

  17. dkd Says:

    Hi All,

Is it available or will be soon?

  18. Hani Says:

I live in Los angeles, Ca…Is it possible to put my hands on a BLACK E70?

  19. ahmed Says:

hello there im finding issues with my E61 and i am unable to downbload my email off the GPRS / 3G the wierd thing is that i can download my email of the wifi network and this makes me upset becuase i dont want to stop over at wifi hub everytime i need my email. The error that im getting is server not found, please help. My email is spankmehard@mac.com

  20. Michael Says:

I have the Euro E70 (silver) on Cingular. The web browser works over the “Intenet-GPRS” connection in Chicago and San Francisco, but not in NYC where I’m under the impression there is a problem in that market. SMS works, calls work, but I can’t get IM to work for the life of me… Anyone have any suggestions?

  21. JG Says:

I have an E70-1 and am using it in the US. I configured the GPRS settings to work with my Cingular SIM, and I am able to use the internet. But, I have a mobile email application that cannot connect using these same settings! A different SIM works fine and connects right up. Any ideas?

  22. e111 Says:

What I’m gathering is that with Cingular, the Euro e70 (900/1800/1900)internet access (through Internet-GPRS or Cingular Express) does not work in NYC (where I currently reside). I don’t know about other areas–I had sparatic internet access in the Baltimore/DC area. HOWEVER, I was just in the San Fran area–down to Monterey, and I had perfect access to the internet. SO FRUSTRATING!

  23. paul Says:

just spoke to the nokia store in chicago and they said that the usa units are to be released any day now.

quote: “they are in transit to our store right now”

  24. Cohen Says:

I currently have the Silver E70-1 900/1800/1900. I’m using it on T-mobile… yep T-mobile guys… It looks like I’m the only T-Mobiler on this site. Anyway I’m happy to say that the nokia email client, blackberry connect, and internet all work just fine. I’m in the Phoenix, AZ market just incase there might me a rogue T-Mobiler out there that’s experiencing problems in their market… Which I doubt cause T-Mo rocks baby!

Ok, with that being said… HELP!!! LOL. The reason I’m posting is because the menu key in the lower left hand corner of the QWERTY keyboard doesn’t work. Its as if that key isn’t even connected to the circuit board or something. When I press the menu key on the QWERTY board the phone doesn’t even give that keystoke tone that happens even when you press the ctrl key. If I press the menu key when the phone’s screensaver is on nothing happens. I really don’t want to return cause I’ll have to wait and wait AND wait for the replacement. I don’t have a back up phone cause my last phone, Siemens SK65/w Blackberry Built-In, was stolen.

Oh yeah, I should mention that the menu key on the regular telephone keypad works. I have to close the QWERTY board to get to it… its a real hassle and NOT what I paid for…

  25. paul Says:

    Cohen,

What sort of internet plan are you using? I have a sidekick now and only pay 20 bucks and depend heavily on the unlimited data.

also, how is the functionality of the chat software and sms and all of that

  26. Cohen Says:

    paul,

I’m on the “Blackberry Unlimited Add-on” $19.99. It includes BIS email and unlimited web browsing.

The sms functions fine. Nothings confusing about the SMS. I do have the “Any 400 Messages” for $4.99. That includes 400 of SMS or MMS messages.

I don’t use any chat software. It doesn’t seem to have Yahoo Msgr, AIM, ICQ, or MSN Msgr pre-installed. I reckon you could download and install such programs, or use a web interface. Perhaps someone else that uses chat software could comment more about that…

I suggest if you want to try the E70, then just make sure you buy it from a place that has a sound return policy. Do your research on internet stores BEFORE you buy.

  27. Cohen Says:

ok, so I had the problem with the menu key on the QWERTY keyboard not working…

I did a reset, typed *#7370# (default lock code is 12345), but the menu key still didn’t work.

I also found on http://www.S60Tips.com to do a what they call a HARD reset you power off the phone. Then hold down the “green” key for calling, the “*” and the number “3″ key. While holding down all three keys press the power button. Then you still hold down the three keys for about 10 more seconds as the phone begins to power up. Then release them. And…. boda bing! the menu key on my QWERTY board now works! Woo hoo!!!

  28. Jon Says:

I have the e70.. I am new to S60 and Nokia. I am a heavy blackberry user with an 8700. I put my SIM in the e70 expecting it to just work… Silly me.. 2 hours later I had the Blackberry Connect software and desktop software installed. Previously I could not get GPRS to work but suddenly it was working.. I also downloaded the configs from Nokia hoping to get the web to work.. No luck..

    Problems:

No web (max number of connections.. disconnect blackberry?.. yes… oops.. packet network not available)

Blackberry works for about an hour then just stops.. reboot fixes it for another hour..

USB cable on XP fails to connect the device 9 out of 10 tries (device malfunctioned…)

I am on Cingular.. Has anyone figured out the definitive settings for Cingular?

  29. Sryn Says:

    Hiya,

    A question:

Can one connect to the E70 via WiFi while it is connected to the Internet via 3G? Or, in other words, can the E70 share its 3G internet connection over its WiFi?

    Thanks in advance.

    Sryn

  30. David Says:

I’m trying to setup e70 on cingular, all is working fine but only receiving SMS mail and cannot send. Can someone walk me through the set up?

  31. Donald Says:

Let me kill all of the suspense and exclusivity; the US version (850 mhz) of the Nokia E70 is NOW available at the Nokia Store in Chicago on N. Michigan Avenue (call information to get the phone number). The just got them in on this past Monday. They are filling waiting list orders first, but I think they will sell you one if you walk in. They will NOT take any orders by phone. You must purchase the phone in-person, or have someone purchase the phone for you in-person. Then the Store will ship the phone to you. This is the genuine article: unlocked, tri-band (including 850 mhz), FCC approved, and tested and optimized for use in the United States. The sale price is $450.00. You guys can thank me later. Enjoy.

  32. Bart Says:

I boucht this nokia phone to and my menu key on the QWERTY map doesn’t work. I tried the hard reset but still no result. Does anybody have a sollution for me?

  33. David Says:

    Donald,

Did you see this in person? The store is still telling me the US e70 is not available yet.

  34. Cohen Says:

    Bart,

I had the same problem with the menu key on the QWERTY keyboard not working. I posted the solution a few posting’s above on August 14th, 2006 at 12:15 pm

Basicly I did a hard “reset”: …I also found on http://www.S60Tips.com to do a what they call a HARD reset you power off the phone. Then hold down the “green” key for calling, the “*” and the number “3″ key. While holding down all three keys press the power button. Then you still hold down the three keys for about 10 more seconds as the phone begins to power up. Then release them. And…. boda bing! the menu key on my QWERTY board now works! Woo hoo!!!

  35. Bart Says:

    I typed this *#7370#
while rebooting I hold those 3 keys.
    I can reselect my location.
Then My phone asks me if I whant to studie.
    And installs something
After the installation the question is stil there.
I can pres yes or no but The key still doesn’t work

  36. Bart Says:

It works by pressing the button a few times during the installation

  37. Frank Says:

I just called the Chicago store, they have four (4) more Nokia e70-2 (850Mhz US version) phones in stock!

  38. admin Says:

Cool. When (if) you get one upload some pix to the Flickr pool:

Hello i am using Nokia- E62 device for testing purpose. i had a problem that Device got locked hence i can not hardreset device using “*#7370″ code. I wanna to know the other ways to hardrest the handset. (Even i tried , *, 3 , Green key pressing and switch on phone to hardreset which works for series-60 phones)

can any one help me out in this issue.

  40. David Says:

I had Cingular service and upgraded to an E70 which was super spotty on that network without the 850. I switched to T-Mobile yesterday and now coverage is great! Hoo-ray!

  41. Craig White Says:

    Hi guys,
I got a US E70-2 a few days ago and am using it on Cingular’s network. First off, I have no problems with Text, MMS or Calls. I can share AP info with any cingular user out there who needs it. I’m in the NY metro area. I also have no trouble connecting via PC Suite using the cable IR or Bluetooth. My Jabra headset works fine too, and Wi-Fi is a cinch so far (I haven’t tried WEP encrypted nets yet…)… So that’s the good news.

So, now to my issue. I can’t get BB Connect to work, even with the 6.26.0 client which apparently works on the E70-1 from what I’ve read. Does anyone have any experience with this. Has anyone been able to get the E70-2 (US 850MHz version) working with BB Connect. the client installs, but does not run, and from what I can tell the install completes, but it still shows the little red box in the obttom corner of the jigsaw icon in Application manager. What does this mean, anyone tell me?

So, how has eveyone else’s experience with the E70-2 been…

  42. EReyes Says:

I just got my e70 yesterday and I already love it. A couple things I am still trying to get working if anyone can help. I’ve already gone to the nokia site to push down the Cingular (Blue) settings but only mMode is working.

    * SMS - can receive but can not send text messages
    * how do I get this on WiFi? Can I make the phone search for WiFi before trying to connect over mMode?
    * How do I configure AIM?
    * I was told at the store that I can download and install the BBConnect software myself. Where do I get it?

    Thanks!

  43. mike Says:

anybody have any idea how much an E70 would cost in Helsinki?

I’m in St. Petersburg and they are pretty expensive here, close to $600.

Finland is only a few hours away, but google really let me down when I tried to find a price quote for the E70 in Finland. Maybe you need to enter the query in Finish.

  44. Cohen Says:

EReyes, I’m not sure about your SMS, or mMode vs Wi-Fi questions. But I do know that you can download the Blackberry software from http://www.businesssoftware.nokia.com/blackberry_downloads.php

  45. David Says:

    EReyes

For the SMS you probably need to change the message center #. Even when I downloaded the settings I still had to manually change this.

    Menu-Messag-Options-Settings

The number you should be using is +13123149810 with the plus.

For the WiFi just “connect” to the web, even if it is not working then press the left select key for options, go to settings and you can select if you want the phone to connect on a saved saved access point or ask you everytime which you’d like to use. I select every time.

Showing available WiFi is under Menu-Tools-Settings-Connection-WirelessLAN.

I find that making some changes are like using BMW iDrive, very round about but once it’s done…heh.

    Hope this helps you!

  46. EReyes Says:

I have everything working great now! SMS, WiFi (at home w/ WEP & free WiFi), found an AIM program (works OK. I would still prefer the one that usually comes pre-installed). Have installed a number of other great programs on it. It has been configured, personalized and now waiting for my 2GB miniSD card to arrive.

I can’t install the BB software yet. Not sure how it’s supposed to work with my Mac. Now waiting for iSync to support it.

Also, the camera & video on this phone are pretty great. In NY, the free park WiFi provided by Nokia is pretty good. Have been playing with the streaming radio, RealPlayer, etc. The google maps app I have comes in very handy. And I’ve make my own mp3 ringtones using Audacity to cut down my fave music.

Finding things takes some getting used to, but the great thing is that you have the abily to move things around. I do wish it had 7 apps for active standby rather than just 5.

This phone is really the best.

  47. Mikko Says:

    Mike,

It seems that E70 costs the same in Helsinki as in St. Petersburg, at cheapest 464 euros ($589).
    http://www.mbnet.fi/hintaseuranta/tuote.aspx/40432

A bigger webstore Verkkokauppa.com sells it for 469.90 euros:
    http://tinyurl.com/luow4

  48. mike Says:

wow, pretty costly. Wierd pricing in SPB. i have seen the E61 ranging from 10,000Rub to 16,000R, and the E70 from 14,000R to 20,000R. But what was strange was that the least expensive E61 and the most expensive E70 were in the same store.

EReyes, what Google maps software are you referring to. I am familiar with google maps, just not sure what “program” you are referring to. Link perhaps?

  49. jon Says:

    Guys:

I have the E70-1. All of you with any type of SMS/MMS problem, check the “network” setting in the phone. Mine has UMTS and GSM. I had all the nokia config info, but if you are in “dual mode” (not UMTS or GSM specifically), it may not work. I switch from “dual mode” to GSM and it works fine now….

Now I’m trying to figure out how to setup 3G on cingular — anyone know?

  50. Jim Says:

When you talk about the delay going from landscape view to normal view. What is the actual delay time? Mere seconds or more? From what I reading as well, you have to install alot of apps as they are not pre-installed?

  51. Vengat Says:

I am facing the same problem as the other keys.. my qwerty keypad is not working neither my number keys in the front is working. i tried the green+*+3 option and it is working..

can anyone help me with this one?

  52. Krishnan Says:

I am having the E-70 now for about 2 months. I am very happy with this set.

I have a wi-fi at home, this lets me browse with ease. I also downloaded the IM softwares like repro which lets me connect to googl talk, MSN etc.

The 2 MP camera is great , which lets me capture information or pics without having to depend on digital cameras which we dont carry always. One thing this lacks is if there was a flash while taking pictures in dark it would have been great.

The qwerty keyboard is great, the folding type makes the device easy on pockets and to carry them. Ofcourse I am not sure on the life of flap(opening) used for keyboard …

Overall a great device with all features(basic PDA, Mobile, Camera etc) bundled into a single mobile.

  53. Robert Says:

I have the same problem with my menu key on the open keyboard, tried the reset procedure several times, still no reply by the menu key. Any further ideas?
    Thanks a lot,
    Robert

  54. Bart Says:

I think this is a great phone,
A little slow if you are used to use the nokia 6820 but there are a lot more options.
I’m only disappointed that I lost the “9″ key on the numpad of this phone(just felt of).
Does anybody else have some experience losing keys?
I sent my phone back for repair and I’m waiting for more than a month now.

    @Robert.
play with the menu key, during the setup after the reset.
This works with me before my phone was broke.

  55. Baris Says:

    Hi Bart,

I agree that E70 is a great phone, however I’m having the same problem with the menu key not functioning on the keyboard. Tried to reset in several different ways and no luck. What do you mean by “play with the menu key during the setup”? Which setup? The setting date/time/location part on the first boot?

I’ve however figured the following ‘workaround’ for the menu key: Download a task manager application (I’ve liked the Handy Taskmanager from Epocware) and assign it to one of the shortcuts (in active standby or not). You can then press No within any application to fall back to the “desktop” and then select the taskmanager application to launch other applications or kill existing ones.

  56. JOHN Says:

  57. Adri Says:

I have the same problem… I’m using TMobile USA on the black e70, and I can receive SMS, but I cant send them… Those of you who say its working on your phone (with Tmobile) what settings do you have in place? Thanks!

  58. Nik Says:

I had the same problem with my e70-2 on cingular. It told me I had to enter my message center phone number or some crap. I found it by going to my old Nokia 6682, going to Messages, then settings, and finding it thru there and transferring that number over.

Either that or google “Nokia Phone Configurator” and have the appropriate settings sent to your phone.

    Hope that helps!

  59. Erwin Julian Says:

Hello bros, please anyone tell me bout speed and type of processor inside nokia e70, i cant find the info till now, how bout internet download speed comparison wif e61? thanks before for info bros.

  60. Adri Says:

Yea, I tried both the Nokia and TMobile configurators, but neither work. This is so frusterating. Its the only thing keeping me from absolutely loving this phone!

  61. Adri Says:

I was reading thru this thing and I found this:

    “Guys:

I have the E70-1. All of you with any type of SMS/MMS problem, check the “network” setting in the phone. Mine has UMTS and GSM. I had all the nokia config info, but if you are in “dual mode” (not UMTS or GSM specifically), it may not work. I switch from “dual mode” to GSM and it works fine now….”

The thing is that my phone doesn’t give me the option to just use GSM… the other option is “packet data”… so i dont know how to get it to use GSM only. I have the E70-2… any ideas?

  62. aaqil Says:

Adobe Reader for Nokia E 70 , not download

  63. Adri Says:

    Ok… that didnt work either…

Does anyone on here have an E70 that is able to send sms? B/c if not then the phone isnt compatible with TMobile I’m guessing…

  64. Adri Says:

Great news! My E70 works great now…

I had the old VoiceStream SIM card, so I switched it to the TMobile one and now I’m able to send SMS…

I’m so happy! This is the best phone ever! And the people at the Nokia store in NY are super nice! Go visit!

  65. Darryl Says:

I have an E70-1 which I bought in Belgium. I have a problemsending sms messages similar to those which have been posted so far…with a twist! When I am on my home network in Belgium (Proximus), the thing works perfectly. When roaming on other networks, though, I can’t send sms’s (although i can send mms’s, surk and receive all sorts of messages). I tried changing the number in the message center from the short code (1230) to the full number (+32475151230) but it does’t seem to matter. i have also tried switching off the “dual mode” network option but that doesn’t seem to matter either. Any ideas?

  66. Nik Says:

Actually, maybe I missed this, but does the Nokia Software Updater have updated software for the e70-2?

I see it says e70 on the website, but i just wanted to confirm.

    thx,
    nik.

  67. Renn Says:

    Hello!

I recently purchased a New E70 – 2 (USA Version) which features the latest firmware build (2.0618.07.1031-08-06 RM-24) on the t-mobile network.

Aside from the phone occasionally resetting itself during a long phone call(White screen, followed by Nokia Text Logo) the phone is BRILLIANT.

Prior to going to Bed, I will set the phone down, verify that everything is functioning as it should (GSM Network connected, etc) while Setting my e70 phone alarm to sound in the morning.

    BUT

When I am woken up by the E70 alarm in the morning the phone is in OFFLINE mode.

The only thing that should be mentioned is that I AM using an “ALARM” (Could the alarm feature trigger the phone to trip into Offline mode?)

Is this a firmware issue, and if so can Nokia cure it if I send my phone in?

After speaking with one of the Nokia C.S. reps they said the ONLY fix would be for a Nokia Tech to Re-flash the firmware. She also mentioned I could perform the same task myself via the Nokia Phone Software updater. (I would prefer not sending my phone in)

    Things to Note -

I “WAS” using the phone lock feature, but promptly stopped because it was buggy. I am also using the standby menu, a screen theme, and google maps. Other then this my phone is untouched.

Thank you for your help, and I look forward to any and all comments.

I have purchased the E70-1 and knowing now that it is on the 900/1800/1900 MHz, I live in the Boston area… now, I’ve noticed that the signal isn’t that great but was wondering if someone could tell me if being on the 900 MHz is really going to be a problem signal wise and 3G wise… I’m with Cingular.

    Thanks.

I recently purchased my e70 from Amazon.com. The features are great but my Cingular SIM card does not work. I went to 3 different Cingular stores for assistance. Store #1 said it was because I had the 64K smart chip and not the new 3G SIM so they changed it, the 3G SIM did not work either. I put the 3G in a different phone and it works! I went to 2 more stores hoping for a more Nokia savvy salesperson but no luck. I went home and installed the software updater and re-installed the software, no luck…I have the e70-2 type RM-24. Help anybody? I will be getting assistance (hopefully) from Nokia when they are available, now I want to watch the Bears win!

need some help here. picked up an e70 off of ebay for use on t-mobile. tried w/2 different batteries (OEM) and can’t get more than 6 hours of life. have set Network Mode to “GSM”, shut off bluetooth, and set “Show Availability” of Wireless LAN setting to “Never”. I’m retrieving mail every 30 minutes, but other than that have been only made a few calls. i’ve seen postings on other forums that battery life can be affected by mis-configured network settings, but have had no luck trying different options.

this phone is great…except for this crippling issue. any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  75. Justin Says:

I am also having the “Unable to send message: ####” SMS issue. I can receive SMS, I can send multimedia messages, but can’t send SMS. I have updated firmware and still have the issue.

  76. Adri Says:

Thrillho: It may be because you are using the wrong wall charger. Make sure it is the skinny one instead of the outdated bulky one.

Justin: If you are on the TMobile network, make sure you have their most updated SIM card.

  77. Justin Says:

SMS issue: I was using a Voicestream SIM(used to have an Omnipoint one in the 90’s!),got a new T-Mo SIM for free today at T-Mo store. SMS WORKS! My E70 boots faster too, generally seems to work better. THANKS!

-I am actually writing this on my E70! I love this thing

I have an E70-1 and had the same problem sending SMS on T-Mobile. Customer support wouldn’t help because it’s an unsupported phone. What I found was I had the wrong message center number programed (from the settings downloads they gave me). I just called support back and asked what phone number should be entered for the text message centre. Here’s a quick menu guide…

    menu->messag.->options->settings->text message->message centres->options->open->message centre->msg centre number->options->change->OK

(don’t forget the +1 before the area code and number.) BTW, the message center in use should be “message centre”, not “sim msg” centre.

I think I got all that right.

Now, if I could just find a way to increase the volume for the call waiting alert when using the bluetooth! I’m always missing incoming calls because I just can’t hear the alert. It does show up on the display tho. The other volume levels are fine too.

I’d also like to update the language to US English so the voice commands work properly.

I’ve used an E70, with current firmware, with Starhub in Singapore for about 3 months.
I don’t recommend this phone at all.

    1. sluggish UI… reeeally SLOW…

    2. SMS receiving+sending silently goes dead once every week or so, seemingly at random. The first clue I get is when outgoing SMS’s stay in the outbox… I have to power-cycle repeatedly, sometimes it goes back to normal, then the delayed incoming SMS’s trickle in from the telco. Sometimes power-cycling doesn’t do it, I have to do the restore factory state using *#7370#.

    3. Web-browsing is nearly useless because of the slowness (both GPRS or wifi) and the crashing.

    4. Nokia PC Suite (more like PC-shit), both USB-cable and Bluetooth are very fragile. When it’s good, you try not to disturb it. Then sometimes it cannot see your bluetooth device or you get WinXP’s malfunctioning/unrecognized USB device. And you basically cannot do anything at this point except waste your time trying all combinations of rebooting your PC, reinstalling PC-shit, Bluetooth driver, reinserting Bluetooth dongles.

  82. JP Says:

I have heard that the E70 is discontinued. Am I too late? Is there anywhere I can get one besides getting in an outrageous bidding war on eBay? I called the Nokia flagship store in Chicago….no luck.

  83. Jo Says:

Same problem with sms; select all and erase sometimes solves the problem; absurd though, less than a week some times (70 sms or 2000 initially… could it be coz of flsh partial failure??

  84. Nate Says:

If anyone else googled around and got here for an SMS problem and they are using t-mobile in the US, use this number for the message center number: +12063130004

Exactly like that with the +1 and everything

I got my E 70-2 two days ago. It is too complicated to me so I am going to sell it in e-bay for the price I got it 380$+10$ shipping it is OEM but does not have original box and manuals. The main concern is bulki design and problems connecting with wi-fi.

  89. DEV Says:

    Hi to all,

Really very nice phone, unfortunately remained very underestimated..
I have been using it for since more than 1.5 years by now.

However Nokia has stopped promoting this model and also they dont support this model, hence please dont buy, or if you want to still buy (because very nice phone) then dont expect any spares or service support from NOKIA. Very Bad policy from Nokia as they dont support expensive phones just 1.5 years after their release. Is there any way one can take them to courts.???

  90. Todd Says:

Just got a used E70 off e-bay. Seems to work correctly, however, I’m totally clueless as to what I need to do so that when I launch the browser it connects via T-mobile’s network. Does anyone have a step-by-step on how to set it up?

  91. admin Says:

    Hi Todd,
You certainly came to the right place. There should be many, many relevant post you can take advantage of. I suggest you go through the archive.

  93. DEV Says:

    Dear Admin,

Hope you can help me to solve this problem.

My E-70 device working perfectly sofar.. However since last 3-4 months it started asking lock code when I restart it from off to on. It means when you set device off and make it on it asks for Lock code, even though I put the lock code of Nokia default like 1234 or 12345 it doesnot unlock and by this trouble I cannot press any buttons or make calls. However during restart if I press red key (call end key) continuosly then it stops showing this lock code.

However sometime you cannot press this button for long then again it asks for Lockcode. If you know this matter please kindly help how to stop this showing lock code.

Morover I also want to upgrade firmware (currently 1.0610.05.07) however I am afraid that the Volume of Music player becomes down by this new firmware. If you know this matter please kindly confirm if the volume remains same even after firmware upgrade or not.

    Looking forward to your help.

    Rgds,
    DEV
