Simon Says

It's not like the multitalented Simon Judge needs an introduction. Many thousands of us regularly read his amazing blog about mobility and mobile application development. His free, SExplorer, file explorer is a must have application and used by many more thousands.

What amazes me is how productive Simon is. I read in Tommi's application blog that Simon has started a new software directory dedicated to S60 3rd edition called Symtopia. That is great for all us users of the E-series devices which runs on S60 3rd edition.

I know that there are other software directories out there. However, Simon always deliver quality so I have high hopes for Symtopia. Already, it is a very good directory and I expect it to only improve over time.

Another great example of Simon's productivity and stellar quality is the free Dictionary 2.0. A great application if you like me have a hard time speling ;-)

The application is fast! installs on a memory card or the main phone memory (it takes up about 6 MB). Highly recommended software!

Thanks Simon!

I’ve always appreciated simon’s blog. Loads of interesting info in there. But frankly, i haven’t been impressed by its dictionnay application. In fact, i find it pretty much unusable:

    - whenever you’ve entered a word, you’d expect that pressing the joystck would bring you to the definition or at least bring up a menu with the different available actions you can take. But here pressing the joystick doesn’t do anything. You have to choose options -> lookup to go to the definition
    - once the definition is displayed, you’d intuitively think that pressing the left soft key would bring you back to the main screen as it’s how this kind of application always works under symbian. But not here. Here, pressing the left soft key closes the application. If you want to look for another word, you’ve got to press options -> back.
    - whenever you want to look for a word, you have to spell the word entirely. Any dictionnary application for mobile phones would normally display the list of all the words and highlight the possible matches as you type so that you do not have to spell the word entirely. It just does make sense given that spelling a word on a phone is a chore. But not here.
    - in order to find the definition of a word, you must spell it right. Make the slightest mistake and it won’t find it, it won’t even offer you with a list of possible matches.
    - the definitions it gives are really odd. Look for the word “test” for example. It’s gonna tell you about “a cupel or cupelling heart bla bla…” which isn’t at all what 99.99% of people would be looking for. You’ve got to scroll at the very bottom to find the most common definition of “test”

So, yes, it’ fast but also unusable in my opinion.

I agree with yout opinion Viocc, i download and thought it was dumb that if u spelt the word wrong you came up with nothing, It defeats the purpose for me, so i bookmarked dictionary.com on my phone.

    Sir/Madam:
I am looking for a html reader (offline reader) for e61. QReader seems to read only .txt files and many of my e-books are in html format. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi guys! I bought my E61 in Hong Kong. It comes with a Chinese English dictionary. Problem is, when I change the SD flash memory card, the dictinary disappears, as it seems to be embedded in the 64MB SD flash card that comes with the phone. I have not been able to move the dictionary from the 64MB card to the phone memory. Have any of you had that trouble before ? How did you solve it ? Cheers,
