Black Nokia E61 Revisited
Sabesh sent me some pictures of his black Nokia E61.
The casing is the black casing from eBay and the keyboard is the OEM keyboard with black softkeys from CNN. I have to say that the the black keyboard makes the device even better looking!
Do you have photos of a modded Nokia E61 you want to share with us? Drop me a note.

Thanks Ed. This was quite easy to install. I simply followed the guide here:

Delivery from cnn.cn was fast (4 business days to Canada).
The quality of the case is very good, but the top light and power switch buttons rattle and can be annoying. Also, the earpiece volume dipped quite a bit, which I resolved by removing the wire mesh and glue from inside the earpiece area on the case.

Pretty cool i guess how everyone is updating the outside of their E61’s, but I’d like to see people update the inside with better software for this so called smart phone. It seems that everyone spends more time customizing the looks of this phone. I have had my E61 for about 5 months and aside from the good screen, keyboard, and wifi I am disappointed with this phone. My preveous cell phone was the Nokia 6620 and that phone surprised me everyday with the things it could do. On my E61 Opera mini is pretty slow (scrolling thought pages) compared to how it was on my 6620. Also, on my E61 if I have Opera Mini open with the nokia web browser and then try to view a video i always get the “out of memory” error, which is totally unacceptable. This phone has plenty of internal memory.

Mike, a bit of a broad assumption there
I am using this device to the Max: Mail for exchange for instant email, Worldmate, screenshot, Mobipocket reader for News and eBooks, Oxford dictionary, Skyforce reloaded game, Audiobay for streaming, Agile Messenger, TomTom Navigator for GPS etc. It’s handling everything thrown at it with no problems. The browsing experience on the E61 is better than my HTC Hermes (i-Mate JasJam) or HTC Excalibur. But, I wish that the E61 was narrower to ease one-handed usage. Cheers.

I am really big fan of the Nokia E61. I am really impressed with all the functions and for everyday use it is just great. I think as with all new devices it does take some time for decent applications to come along but the always do. I was also looking to change the cover of the handset, but when I spoke to Nokia I was told that it would void my warranty if I removed the cover. A bit of a let down but otherwise a happy E61 user. Thanks for the great site as well. Always the first read when I get to work in the morning.

I’ll definitely do black when the keys are also black. The silvers keys just make the black case look a little off. The black soft keys help however not enough.

I’d have to second anthonyb’s comment. I just got the silver EMEA keypad from CNN (2 processing days + 6 business days for shipping) to replace my APAC keypad, but as soon as an all-black one is made, I’ll be all over it.

Do any of you know where I can get an E-61 OEM shell? I like the look from Nokia just fine, I just scratched the back from top to bottom ever so slightly but I am anal when it comes to scratches on my equip! Thanks!!
