Midnight Blue Nokia E61
After documenting the transformation of other people's Nokia E61 for some time, the turn has finally come to me. I bit the bullet and ordered a blue case from the now famous eBay seller.
I have to say that I was a bit nervous before I started ripping my precious Nokia E61 apart. However, just as many others have reported before me - it was really a straightforward procedure. No problems at all. Having said that, please be aware that you will void your warranty by performing this surgery on your precious Nokia E61.

I followed Andres' detailed instructions. The trickiest part was to remove the top, back cover with the Nokia logo. But even that wasn't a problem. I just used an ordinary knife.
Putting the new case back together was easy. However, the battery latch that I received fits very tightly and as many other's have mentioned before the front, top portion feels a bit loose. I also have to say that switching to the plastic case makes the device feels less solid.

Very nicely done. I switched my girlfriend’s E61 to the pink housing last week and she loves it. Hers didn’t feel loose in the front but I did have to do some bending with the battery cover to make it fit properly.
Myself, I’ll be keeping the original housing due to the reduced quality of the plastic replacements.

Hi Dan,
I’m not sure if I am imagining this but it almost appears as if the reception of the radio worsened with the new case. I could just be paranoid

Worse reception? I think I read that others complaining about that as well. Rather than going the new shell route, I decide to try the new “skin” one and will slip a rubbery (and stylish) sleeve over my E61.
I got three for $ 8 USD. I’ll report here once I receive them this week.

agwe23,
Ha ha ha - you don’t like it

actually no. i’m not sure if its the same in your country, but in the philippines, in greenhills (one mall) we have tons and tons and tons of plasticky faceplates for every nokia phone imaginable (made in china ones) and i guess i’m a bit sick of it. heheh but we don’t have the ones for e61 here yet, but if its made by the same ppl i guess it’ll be plasticky and of low quality. i love the finish of the e61, unless nokia comes out with faceplates themselves, i wont touch it.

Hi Ed,
Cool! Your phone looks just like mine looked, before I did the two-tone thing
Did you find the vibration alert to be somewhat diminished due to the lightness of the new housing? I found by using the original silver rear plate the vibration alert sounds better.
Cheers!

Hi Machani,
I just followed your path.
You and the others were the trail blazers
I never use vibrate so that’s not an issue for me but I wouldn’t be surprised if the vibration is less noticable because of the change material.
Cheers
Ed

I just changed mine to black. I bought this housing on ebay and it’s from China. The whole thing is made from plastic and there are small gaps here and there. It is what it is but from the most part at least it looks nice.

sorry as i am a little off topic, but: do you know where i can find instructions for disassembling a nokia e70? mine seems to have dust under the V key and the joystick (they do not always respond at the first click) and i think that disassembling it i can clean the keyboard and the joystick.
any advice is welcome…
thanks

Hey about mods, I cannot find the proper place to post this but i was wondering if there was a sofware mod to use the light for the incoming emails on the e61 as a flash light, if you could find or make a program, would be hella awesome, thx

[...] My Nokia E65 Red housing which I mentioned in an earlier post arrived. Thinking that the transformation would be as easy as when I tore apart my Nokia E61 and changed the original casing to a blue third party casing, I wasted no time and started to dismantle the Nokia E65. [...]

I too bought a blue plastic housing for my E61 from Ebay. It fits pretty well, but my problem with the new casing is that the buttons don’t protrude as much as they did with the OEM housing. With the plastic housing the top of the buttons are almost flat with the plastic housing, making it even more difficult to use the keyboard. So i removed the plastic housing and replaced my original housing and the buttons are now aprox 1 mm above the housing. I’ve tried installing the plastic again, but something is just not right about it. Oh well. The blue housing did look great though. Did anyone else notice this problem with the keys??
