Nokia E62 Ads
The Nokia E62 is being advertised broadly in the US press and it seems to be paying off. Recently, I have seen more and more people in San Francisco using the Nokia E62. Also, my local Cingular store reported that the Nokia E62 was selling quickly.
I hope this translates into many more applications and services optimized for the Nokia E61/E62.

just when i was ready to order my E61, the online store runs out of them. according to their sales department, nokia switched most of the production capacity of the E61 to E62. Im not sure if thats true or what but, I blame you Cingular >:(

That’s great to hear that Nokia is pushing the E62 and its brand finally in the USA. I travel to USA because of work and most people I meet never even heard of Nokia, which sadly reflects the lack of marketing by Nokia.
Here in Montreal (Canada) you see Nokia mobiles of all models in people’s hands or while doing a search with my bluetooth. Ironically, there is also very little marketing being done by Nokia. There was a really cool marketing blitz once in the summer of 2005 and it disappeared after a few months and that was it.
I guess marketing isn’t as critical depending on the demographic…
What has become very popular in Canada, at least in the 2 major cities of Montreal and Toronto, are boutiques that sell unlocked mobiles — mostly of Nokia. Nokia is generally known here for their quality and uniqueness, which fits in with the city’s stylistic individualism.
When I was using the Nokia Sensor app on my other Nokia mobiles (e.g., 6680) it was normal on occasion to get messages from other Nokia users (e.g., just saying hello or to complement your model) — flirting maybe but social definitely. I’ve received a bluetooth message just saying “nice mobile” when I was still using my 6680 alot. Of course you still have to be careful about possible mobile viruses and I’ve gone through that once. It’s simple enough to avoid. You’ll receive a message request and it’ll always tell you what type of message. If you see anything with the extension .SIS then you simply don’t accept it to be on the safe side.
I really miss using my Nokia Sensor app. It’s too bad that Nokia doesn’t make a version for the S60 3rd. I even wonder if they have dropped the Nokia Sensor app altogether. Anyone know?

Got the E62, luv it so far, only concern is the email client not being that robust…wish Profimail worked on the E62 and hopefully Lonely Cat Games will act like they care instead of blaming Nokia for having so many variants on the E series platform…

Hey pals, was wondering what’s the good thing of E62 over E61?? I only heard that E62 does not have built-in wifi…aw

Yeah, those ads are helping out. I picked up an E62 on Friday. I also picked up a magazine for my wife (her usual one) called “Real Simple” and about 1/3 into the ‘zine, Nokia/Cingular has a 3 page (foldout) add with a HUGE E62…on all facing pages…
My wife said…”…well, I guess I approve if it’s in this mag!” Thanks Nokia! I didn’t have to write a proposal to my CFO…!!!

I just purchased an unlocked E61 and would like to synch it to MS Outlook on my laptop. When I connect the phone via USB, my laptop wants either an install CD or location - I have neither. HELP! One of the reasons I really wanted this phone was to be able to synchronize my Outlook Calendar, Tasks and Contacts. How do I accomplish this?

Xem,
I don’t know about what good things one version has over the other (E61/E62) although I can’t help but feel cheated with the E62 not having WiFi capability.
To complicate things, each carrier seems to market the model(s) with their own apps, usability, and promotions. I’ve noticed that between the E61 and E62 (USA and Canadian) the headsets are all different. I have been unsuccessful at finding a headset to listen to my music on the E62 because the Canadian version has a 2.5mm connection. I’ve tested various adapters and 2.5mm headsets and none have worked.
This is what I know of differences between the two models (taken from the official S60 site and various blogs including E-Series, as well as being able to compare with my own E62, Canadian version):
Nokia E61
- Operates in WCDMA2100 network
- Shared Memory for Storage: 64 MB
- WLAN
- POP-port connection
Nokia E62
- Shared Memory for Storage: 80 MB
- Has the “Own Key”
- 3.5mm wired headset connection (for USA)
- 2.5mm wired headset connection (for Canada)
- Mini USB port
Please correct me if I have any of the information wrong.

Hi SI,
It sounds as if you don’t have PC suite installled. Install PC Suite from the install disc that came with the Nokia E62 or just download PC Suite from Nokia.com
That should do it.
Cheers
ED

SI: your PC won’t automagically know that you’ve connected an E61 and that you want to sync with Outlook. You need to install Nokia PC Suite on your PC first. It is on the CD that came with your E61 but i’d recommend you to download the lastest version from the Nokia web site

I went into my local Cingular store here in Los Angeles expecting to purchase either a blackberry or the 8125 PDA device (loved the size of the keyboard) but the sales person whipped out his E62 that had literally been released the day before and I was in love. I went instantly home and ordered one! Have loved it ever since…although Im still figuring things out

Anyone order and try out the Convergentech Mini SD wifi yet on a E62. It only has a couple of millimeters atenna sticking out compared to a regular one with about 2 centimeters.

I absolutely love my E62! I switched from a Razr v3i w/ iTunes and I was a bit skeptical at first because of the E62 not having a camera but the phone has so many other features that you really don’t even think about stuff like that. It’s a wonderful device. I couldn’t operate without it. Especially the full HTML browser and the IM’s. When I brung mine to work , my co-workers were all on it. The next day , two people had went and got one so it looks as though they’re selling pretty good.
Does anyone know where I can find a pink housing ? I looked on Ebay and I didn’t come up with anything. Another thing - can themes be installed from the phone itself instead of using a computer ? It looks as though zip files can be opened on the E62 so i’m wondering if I email myself a theme , will I be able to open and install it ?
October 26th, 2006 at 6:49 pm
Whitney, themes can be installed from the phone itself! I’ve installed themes using Wifi on my E61 straight from e61life.com for example.
However, I haven’t tried emailing and for me the themes on rapidshare don’t work. I think they don’t work for anyone…

Thanks Jake!
You were very helpful and your blog is nice! I can go to e61life.com through MediaNet and see if I can download a couple of things. I need to check the site out. Thamks again!

Hi Whitney,
The seller on eBay of the Pink Nokia E61 houses is Sunspere. Colors vary so check back and they might have the pink house back onsale.
Cheers
Ed

Aww , you guys are wonderful!
Looking at the tutorial on changing the housing looks fairly easy so i’ll give it a try. I’m big on the color pink (most girls are! , LMAO!)

It’s not hard at all. Don’t forget to send us the pictures when you are done.
October 27th, 2006 at 4:43 am
Chris: any mini-SD wifi card requires a SDIO slot, which the E62 doesn’t have. So there is no way you’ll get wifi on an E62
October 27th, 2006 at 1:39 pm
Word is the e62 will carry a $100 mail in rebate. Net $99 a steal for such a great device.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:10 pm
The E62 is probably good for the US market with the mini usb port instead of pop ports and the 3.5mm audio connection. BUT, they took out the WLAN capability that the E61 has. This is very important.
Cingular forces the users to subscribe to their wireless internet service. This is why I opted for the E61. There are so many open wifi connections and E61 users can take advantage of that without paying too much for Cingular internet service.

Funny… I am yet to see ONE person using the E62 here in Miami. I am still feeling pretty special and unique with my E61.

The E62 rocks! Just bought mine this weekend….Cool ads too! Nice one nokia

I just purchased the e62 and was excited as I have always loved Nokia. Unfortunately I am having “issues”:
–I synched my Outlook db which is rather large at 15K contacts
–Since then I am constantly getting “out of memory” messages
–Memory Check on phone indicates that there is 75MB free
I have contacted Nokia Customer Support and have received conflicting responses regarding ability of Address Book app to be able to handle large amounts of contacts. They have recently escalated to Level 4 (Developers).
My searches in other forums — allaboutsymbian — seem to indicate that “out of memory” errors are fairly common due to “shared memory”. This is frankly a bit surprising to me as a business person looking for one device to manage my contacts and calendar. I NEVER had these issues with my former device — Palm Treo650. I would prefer to stay with the e62 but may be forced to go back to another device.
Thanks for this forum.

Has anyone tried Wavelog blogging client on E62?
