Gmail Application for Nokia E61
Update: If you have problems accessing the download site using your browser, use the "Services" browser (the wap browser) located in the "Media" folder.
Google today announced a java application that runs on the Nokia E61 (and the rest of the E-series devices) that delivers the look and feel of Gmail.
Just go to gmail.com/app with your browser and download the application. If you don't have a Gmail account you can sign up for an account from gmail.google.com. An activation code will be delivered via SMS.
According to Google the application provides up to five times faster access and use of Gmail thanks to automatic pre-fetching of messages. I'm not sure it is five times faster but it feels rathar snappy. The application is also optimized to reduce the number of clicks of keystrokes used to scroll, compose, search and read email.

I saw this earlier today and was duly exciteddd. However, after installing it on my e61 I get the following message when trying to open the app. Hopefully you can help.
Network Error
java.lang
IllegalStateException:
This method is not
supported in com.nokia.mid.ui.FullCanvas

When I open the Link with my german E61 browser, “Not Found - Error 404″ apears. Any Ideas?
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:42 am
I got the same error as doidim. I can’t wait to use it!
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:45 am
Hello

That’s strange, it works fine for me on Cingular in the US.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:02 pm
I also have cingular in the US. Strange.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:03 pm
Same problem as bluejacker with german provider + german E61. I get the same “Not Found - Error 404″. :/
Opo
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:12 pm
I get the same java.lang error. I wonder if firmware matters? I still have the 1.x firmware.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:12 pm
Ahmad, when you go to gmail.com/app does it also say “download gmail for the Symbian OS9? I jut tried it again and realized that it didn’t say “Download gmail for the e61″. Somehow the gmail website is misidentifying my phone, I assume.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:17 pm
I also got the Symbian OS9 version instead of the e61 version.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:29 pm
Try going to that URL (gmail.com/app) with the ‘Services’ browser instead of the regular “Web” browser. That should work.
Alternately, go to gmail.com and there should be a link for ‘a faster gmail’ or something similar there - that works as well.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:36 pm
If they add Calendar integration, I think we may have ourselves one killer app. I’m going to attempt to install later today.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:59 pm
Well I had the same Java exception error and instead of using the “www” browser on my E62 (Cingular) I used the “Media Net” browser (with the little Cingular logo on the world) and it correctly identified my phone as the E62 (not just regular Symbian OS9). Works fine now. Of course, it still has the same Google Maps issue where it wont remember that its ok to access the internet (every time I open the app it asks me).
Although I dont know how SUPER useful this is right now, I currently have my Gmail forwarded automatically to my mycingular.blackeberry.com address. Using the Gmail app would require me to constantly check whereas I only have to press my email button on the phone to look at any of my emails.
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:03 pm
Try to use the old browser (Services?) to get the app. Worked for me, but new browser (Web) did not. It could be sending a wrong user agent, and gmail gets confused.
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:08 pm
BTW, does anyone know if that Java error will ever be fixed on the E62? Its incredibly annoying how every time I scroll around on Google Maps it requests my authorization to access the network.
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:42 pm
I’ve just installed it (t-mobile uk) and it’s very good — even made it to my active standby… My only issue is that when searching through contacts to add to the “To:” field, it comes up with numbers instead of letters — couldn’t seem to work out how to get letters instead… Tried all key combinations — could just be me though… For example, when pressing “R” to list my contacts beginning wih R, it puts a “1″…

Just download works great
The 1st time i was downloading it didnt work got
Network Error message. Was using opera with a wi-fi connection so i tried again this time with the nokia browser and T-Zones it worked identifying my E61. Dont really need it but it is nice to have 4 different ways to check or have it pushed!
November 2nd, 2006 at 2:36 pm
I’ve installed it, and it’s working fine. Then I configured a second mailbox on the E61 : Gmail, with their POP3 settings, but when I press the email key to check for mails on my 2 mailboxes, E61 hangs. Is there any problem using Gmail as a POP3 account ?
November 2nd, 2006 at 3:13 pm
I got an error the first time i installed it as well, but used the WAP browser the second time and it worked perfecto.
November 2nd, 2006 at 3:15 pm
Google has done it again. I can’t be more happy than having this application.
November 2nd, 2006 at 3:49 pm
I just downloaded it and works great! I wish if they had auto refresh and preferred access point settings
November 2nd, 2006 at 4:28 pm
1- go to gmail.com
2- there is a link for ‘a faster gmail’ on the top corner.
3- click the link , download the program .
start using it , very useful
November 2nd, 2006 at 4:44 pm
This is a great app. Works awesome on my E62 (Canadian version). I second the motion for an auto-refresh. I’ll keep this but also keep my GMail running on my E62’s native e-mail app to let me know when there’s a new e-mail. But this is great for accessing all the features of GMail. Google is really on top of things…
November 2nd, 2006 at 4:51 pm
Does anyone know if it’s possible to have more than one copy of this installed on your phone (I have 3 gmail accounts that I use actively)…Thanks!
November 2nd, 2006 at 5:30 pm
it worked fine on my e61..(unlike gmaps-which i had to dload to the SD-not phone memory)this is a cool app for non-smartphones.. since we can add our gmail to our email clients..xchange, berry, etc.. but i installed it for the fact that if i dont want my personal gmail emails being pushed to me and mixing in with work emails i can check whenever I want.. google strikes again!
November 2nd, 2006 at 5:48 pm
why is there no attachment option?
November 2nd, 2006 at 5:51 pm
nice… this is a Hot topic, E61/E62 is still an email device
Google got it good this time!
I have Gmail so this is very nifty for me, plus I like the looks of it!
Ps: check out my E61 blog at http://www.jake61.wordpress.com I recently posted some nice stuff worth reading… and if you haven’t visited there is the Software&Themes page which has (links to) the longest list of E61 software you will find in one place
November 2nd, 2006 at 6:05 pm
Nice!!! Thanks for bringing it to our attention Ed. Appreciate it!!
November 2nd, 2006 at 7:45 pm
It works great…tks a lot for your information
November 2nd, 2006 at 8:30 pm
Very slick app… well done Gmail. One annoyance though - Every time gmail (or google maps) tries to hit the network I get the following message - “Allow application Gmail to use network and send or receive data”. Is there any way to set this so gmail automatically connect? Pain to keep saying yes…
November 2nd, 2006 at 8:39 pm
Guys off topic, but does anyone know where to get free games? Maybe Ed can post a blog on the subject.
November 2nd, 2006 at 9:07 pm
google has done it again!!!
great
thanks for the apps!
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:05 pm
I’m still not impressed, no attachment option..
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:10 pm
Guys followed instructions but its keeps getting disconnected any chance of posting the .SISX file somewhere so I can doubleclick and install
November 3rd, 2006 at 12:03 am
I managed to get it to work within my own wifi, but it will not connect to T-Mobile GPRS/UMTS-Network (in Germany)
However, I like the normal e61-browser access for gmail.
So whats the difference?
November 3rd, 2006 at 12:56 am
Ryan and others:
I think the “java problem” can be solved by entering Tools -> App. mgr., finding the Gmail app and chosing Suite settings. There are options like “ask once” and “ask every time” for a few things. I think changing the “Connection” setting to “ask once” will solve the issue. Works for my Opera Mini at least.
I haven’t been able to test it with Gmail app, though. I’ve download the app, my phone phone was discovered all right, but when I try to login I get “Network Unavailable”. The network and Gmail server is OK (I can login using Opera Mini at the same time). Is it possible that it works only in US/Canada now? The phone is discovered as E61 (US/Canada) and I live in Poland. Thanks in advance for any help.
November 3rd, 2006 at 1:07 am
i’m just getting “network unavailable. this program requires a working
data connection. please check your signal strength.” message when app
tries to open my mailbox. that’s strange cos my data connection is
working just fine with other programs.
November 3rd, 2006 at 1:10 am
Works smooth in the Netherlands
November 3rd, 2006 at 3:35 am
momchil, I’ve got the same problem as you. if you find a solution please post it here…
November 3rd, 2006 at 3:40 am
My error is:
Network Error
java.lang.RuntimeEception
Unexpected server response: 500 Internal Server Error
November 3rd, 2006 at 4:17 am
I managed the install, the application is runing, but it shows a constant connection error massage…
I have active WLAN and GPRS/EDGE or 3G connection, evry application can send or receive data, but Gmail can’t…
I think I’ll continue using ProfiMail…
November 3rd, 2006 at 6:44 am
thanks for this, works great in sweden as well!
November 3rd, 2006 at 7:13 am
It was with considerable excitement that I installed Gmail on my Nokia E70. I have an active GPRS/EDGE connection, and I live in India. However, when I ran the app, I kept getting the message: “This program requires a working data connection. Please check your signal strength.” Quite disappoinnting.
Like Sanyci, I think I’ll have to stick with ProfiMail for now where I can send and receive all my messages on .Mac.
November 3rd, 2006 at 7:28 am
Can someone email this app to my mail box? It seems that I have some problem downloading it.
Great thanks.
It seem to be an useful app with a good looking.

Hi!
Here in the “Nokialand” I have the same problem as many of you have. The program are not able to recognize the data connection (same problem with gprs as well as Wi-Fi).
It is hard to say if the problem is in the E61 software or in the gmail software. Probably in gmail …… We will se who first find the problem
November 3rd, 2006 at 7:39 am
Its working perfectly on my E61 in Singapore over WLAN.
Have yet to try out the attachment downloading.
November 3rd, 2006 at 9:08 am
Hi,
Anybody got this working for ‘Google Apps for your Domain’?
It works fine for my .gmail account but not for my other domains mapped to google.
Thanks,

Works great in Taiwan …. : )
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:50 am
Works excellent on my nokia e62, but anyone know how to get rid of the annoying “allow application Gmail to use network and send or receive data?” pop ups?
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:44 am
Shurik,
If you are using a Cingular bought E62 there is a known security issue with unsigned J2ME applications where it will ALWAYS ask you if it can access the network. Most regular J2ME apps on Symbian are reportedly able to set different options regarding the network connectivity: always ask, ask first time, never ask, etc. Cingular took Nokia’s regular firmware and installed some additional security protocols to deny J2ME applications any other options except NEVER (which is never connect) and ALWAYS ASK (which is what we are facing).
Unfortunately, you will have to either convince Cingular to disable this requirement (dont know if this would be available through a firmware upgrade) or convince Google to authenticate/sign their stuff
November 3rd, 2006 at 12:03 pm
Works with my Gmail account on my Dutch E61, but I also cannot get it working with my ‘Google Apps for your Domain’ account.

Works great, but some times sending an email never arrives, but is shown on my Gmail as being sent, and copy to myself works.
Happened a few times.
November 3rd, 2006 at 6:28 pm
works great!!! awesome!
November 3rd, 2006 at 7:39 pm
I tried using GPRS to download the App with no luck it kept getting disconnected. Now changed setting to download using WLAN and bingo works perfectly. If you are having problems downloading via GPRS try WLAN for e61
November 3rd, 2006 at 9:24 pm
I still can’t get it to work.. downloaded it to my E61 and keep getting a network error “Network Unavailable” when I try to load it. Have tried connecting via WiFi and my 3 network. Any suggestions???
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:54 pm
Same problem in Spain. The installation went fine but when I try to download mail I get the “This program requires a working data connection. Please check your signal strength” error message.
I tried with Wifi and UMTS connections that work fine with other programs but no luck.
November 4th, 2006 at 12:11 am
Hi .. I live in India and have a airtel connection.
Tried to use the GPRS connection.. didn’t work, changed to WLAN & it got installed within seconds :). So here are the steps in brief -
1. Go to Media >> Services
2. Go to the settings menu and change the connection to your WLAN Access point
3. After going to “gmail.com/app”, it displays a message that says “Download for Gmail for Nokia E61″
4. Click on download. Follow the normal installation procedure and get it installed.
Please Note that the normal “Web” browser didn’t work for me !
Cheers.
P.S. This is a kick-ass site for Nokia E-series phones ..
Keep rock’in…

Hello, I am using T-Mobile in the Netherlands and also getting: “This program requires a working data connection. Please check your signal strengthâ€
No ideas yet??? I saw Robert had it working in the netherland, how did you do it?

November 4th, 2006 at 3:16 am
I’m in Taiwan with E61. I got “This program requires a working data connection. Please check your signal strength†error message.
From the above previous post, someone in Taiwan works fine. However, not my E61.
Is it related to service provider? (I’m using 3G UTMS from FarEastTone.)
November 4th, 2006 at 6:22 am
I installed this yesterday without a hitch. Works smoothly, although the second time I ran it, it did seemt to take a while to download the email…. no other problems yet. I’m on E61 with version 1 firmware
November 4th, 2006 at 6:34 am
GREAT! Many wink from Sweden!
November 4th, 2006 at 8:58 am
Works fine on my E61. The inbox view is quite nice and makes good use of the screen size. The search feature is neat as well.
Unfortunately, it’s a Java app and that means:
- takes 5 seconds to launch
- forces most or all running applications to close when it launches
- always asks if it’s OK to use the network when it starts
- always asks for the access point, sometimes several times in a session
- doesn’t seem to be able to use the phone’s contacts
- non-standard and sometimes really weird UI (e.g when you want to enter a subject for an email, you can’t simply type, you’ve got to click to the subject field which bring you to a full screen text editor!)
I wish Google could do the same app native. Java just doesn’t cut it on Symbian.
November 4th, 2006 at 10:12 am
Hi Viocc,
Your post really summarize how I feel about Java as well! I couldn’t agree more. Java doesn’t cut it on Symbian.
November 4th, 2006 at 10:15 am
Hi Guys,
The solution for “This program requires a working data connection. Please check your signal strength” is very very simple here (after trying for the whole day here in Taiwan):
Just change your gmail account language setting to “English (US)” and every thing goes FINE!!! (Use a normal PC / Notebook to change the setting. Don’t use your mobile phone)
Have fun!!!
November 4th, 2006 at 11:04 am
Hi better!
I knew someone would come up with the solution… Seems almost like the whole world`s E61 freeks have been trying to find this problem today.
I changed the gmail account language to “English (US)” just like “better” wrote and used the Wap browser via Wi-Fi to reinstall the software and it worked like a charm within some seconds (minutes).
THANKS better, my wife likes this too, now she does not have to see me playing with my E61 the whole weekend
November 4th, 2006 at 11:30 am
as someone already mentioned, when trying to compose mail when you enter say an R, it inputs a 1.
actuall no letters input.
what am i doing wrong.. has anyone actually entered an address correctly?
( e61, t-mobile )
November 5th, 2006 at 6:47 am
Hocki,
No problem!
Now we are all waiting google for the next step:
1. other language
2. gmail PUSH client with multiple accounts functions!
:):):):):):):):)
November 5th, 2006 at 9:28 am
This application is a dream come true, wish it may also fulfill the following
- Allow to save particular email on to the phone for offline view
- allow to zoom into pictures
- save attachments
- could had given the key to navigate PREV & NEXT emails
- a smooth POP access
Never-the-less
its a great application. Hope we can see further improvents within this year
regards,
Kumar

November 5th, 2006 at 1:07 pm
Hi all.
I have been experimenting with ORB with my E61 and have been
experiencing some problems. I have a webcam monitoring my home and I try
to access it through orb via my E61. I have found that when I try to
access my home PC with my E61 via ORB I find that when I have a good
signal I can’t view the webcam; It says connecting for a while and then
it says something about not enough bandwidth. However, when my E61 has a
very weak signal, I can view my home webcam. Maybe this is all a
coincidence, but this seems to be the case most of the time. I have even
tried wlan and it still says not enough bandwidth when I try to connect
to my webcam. ORB is a cool program with many internet TV channels and
radio stations, but I can’t seem to get it to work consistently on my
E61. Has anyone else tried this program and are you experiencing the
same problems?? Please help with any suggestions!! Thanks!!

[...] Hot on the heels of the post about the Google Gmail application for Nokia E61 here is a quick look at a J2ME client for Google Talk from a company called GoTalkMobile. To make things abundantly clear - this is an application from a third party and not from Google. [...]
November 6th, 2006 at 7:37 pm
Gmail Mobile works GREAT on my E70, even with my cheap-ass T-mobile T-zones connection (GPRS/EDGE with restricted ports). Its a beautiful app. However there is one really annoying bug: the soft keys don’t remap to the right side of the screen in landscape mode. This is, of course, kind of a unique E70 thing, but it took me a while to figure out why my menus weren’t working and even now I keep hitting the wrong menu buttons all the time. sigh.
I’ve also had the repeated-asking-for-the-AP problem some people are reporting, but not enough to be annoying. (not nearly so bad as Google Local, which occasionally locks up my phone demanding a connection…)
November 7th, 2006 at 4:26 pm
work fine, but I miss the ‘add label’ function though :/
November 7th, 2006 at 6:26 pm
Am I uninformed ??? I thought gmail was pop3, which meant to me you could use the normal Nokia E61 Email client.
Which of all things said above gives you ability to use your phone contacts (I love this), is faster than Java on E61, has ability to poll at periodic intervals….
WHAT AM I MISSING? what’s all the fuss about the gmail app then?
…… VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Did you guys recently watch the documentary on “Hacking Democracy” . Do go watch and note the point about using google desktop search. I really don’t care about things in the documentary, but that one disturbs me. Watch and form your own opinion.
November 13th, 2006 at 8:30 am
Yes u are uninformed
We didn’t sign up to Gmail to use it as a pop3 mail server. It was bit fiddle to set up so as not to lose your emails for pop3 , one of the ideas of Gmail is not to delete emails.
Contacts- Every email address that has emailed me I can quickly search/select in the To: field, I don’t have all these contacts on my E61, wouldn’t be possible, well would but dont have 6 months to enter them in.
I prefer to use my computer for Gmail but having it now ‘properly’ on my E61 gives me a seamless sync.
Background and viewing of emails for me is far improved fro the pop client.
Speed is great, shortcuts etc, it was very usable on web browser but this is far better.
I always had a problem with polling, if the E61 didn’t connect it would turn off “polling at periodic intervals”, very annoying, maybe a firmware upgrade would solve this but not in the position at the moment.
Having unlimited internet access via the E61 for £7.50 a month, why use pop3, when I can use as much bandwidth as I want!!!
There’s just a few little US/settings things to iron out….
Your last question…sorry no I didn’t
November 13th, 2006 at 2:48 pm
Thanks MGG. Now it makes sense.
About the last point.. the documentary said that Google kept records of every search you ever performed in its database (along with your Desktop details), which may be or is sold to data mining companies such as Axiom. This allows google and those companies to perform detailed analysis on inidividuals for all sorts of reasons including marketing, investigation, etc. There is no policy to check if the information is private or confidential.
I am sure all these things are covered in their “TERMS and Conditions” that we all happily sign away without reading at first.
Imagine if this is true of all google apps that we use such as gmail, maps, etc. We are giving google the power to use our information potentially against us.
November 14th, 2006 at 4:15 am
Yes I suppose Google can, all these ‘free’ countries are slowly moving towards the “communism model”, id cards/dna databases, those in power are scaring the public so as to bring in more measures to monitor and control the population…..to stay in power….Religion was used to control the masses in the past, its just used in a different way by others now! Google is only playing its part…
As for terms and conditions, I always do a quick browse just to make sure the phrase “your first born” isn’t in there and normally then accept
I know all my Gmail is electronically scanned, well at least the open about it unlike others, and the adverts I get are relevant, very small and really don’t notice them anymore, and I don’t encourage them! Their spam filter is great… I always remember there’s no such thing as something for nothing!
The only ways to stay anonymous on the net is don’t use it…..or if you want some privacy use encryption. I hate the argument of “I’ve nothing to hide”, these people wouldn’t have there bank or credit card statements sent via postcard, I will always believe in the right for two people to have a private conversation, no matter what it is about. But the way we are heading, this will soon be a thing of the past. I always assume anything I do on my E61 is monitored or recorded. For day to day use thats fine with me, theres no reason for them to be interested in what I do!
November 14th, 2006 at 8:49 am
Better, you are a legend for working that out, thanks!

Hi Gang !
I have installed the gmail.com/app on my E61. I use Aritel “Net on Phone” service in India.
I can browse the net, but i can’t check emails or connect to Gmail. I had no problems when i was on the GPRS service that Aritel provided.
Has any one faced such issue ?
December 7th, 2006 at 6:11 am
If you are using a T-mobile E61 in the UK don’t use the web’n'walk browser, use the t-zones one. If you use web’n'walk the phone is incorrectly identified and you get the ‘Advanced Nokia MIDP’ version which can’t connect to the network.

hi. i have problems with installing j2me apps. to my e60.. i couldn’t install any java apps. (opera mini, mig33, gmail app) while loading the installations bar it suddenly stops and says “cannot be installed”
anybody can help?
January 7th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
thanks for tip on downloading the app to run gmail. it works nicely. I am new to E61. I have now spent a good part of 4 hours talking to t-mobile tech support in the UK trying to set up emails to send and receive emails. I have managed to send, but not to receive. I have entred their settings which only differ in that they ask me to use thier smtp server instead of gmails (smtp.t-email.co.uk), the rest is all the same. No joy though. They claim that they have other E-series working but cannot get E61. Any ideas?
January 10th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
Hi Better and those other folks who were able to run the gmail java app by changing the language setting to English US,
Well, it got me all excited reading it and I rushed to check my settings but they were already set to English US.
The problems I’m having are:
a) the app will only refresh if I exit it and re-load
b) if I scroll to the bottom of “page 1″ and continue to click down arrow, I think it tries to refresh to bring in the next page but this refresh, like all refreshes, fails
c) every now and then the app causes all screens to go blank and what looks to be a reboot of the phone (it’s a locked mot v551 on rogers wireless, the monopoly gsm carrier in canada!)
I’ve also noticed those address entering issues but frankly i’m not even able to get off the starting block so I’ll worry about those later.
Any wisdom anyone can impart would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Specifically, do you think I will have better luck after unlocking my phone?
I think that because I can’t get to any menu on my phone that refers to “access points” which some folks in this thread & others may have mentioned. Moreover, my carrier’s tech support did send me some data regarding proper port, ip addr, dns, etc. settings but they told me I’m on my own if I fiddled around with those. Well, I can’t even see these settings on my phone let alone change them. So I’m thinking I do need to unlock my phone.
Again, any wisdom anyone can impart would be greatly appreciated!!!

Well, Neither google nor opera mini works — the catch is: they are unsigned and therefore not allowed to connect to the network…I wonder if there is anyway around this (tried to google it but nothing came up…)

when i sync between my nokia e61 and outlook, all my appointments in my nokia are up by 1 hour. like it doesn’t recognize daylight savings. but why should that matter, if i have an appt at 1 in outlook calendar it should be 1 in my nokia calendar, but alas no, it’s 12.

Hi,
I have just got an E61i and when I try to visit the page http://www.gmail.com/app or mobile.gmail.com/app it shows nothing on the page except “page not found”.
I have tested both the Web and the Services browser but the same happens.
Does anyone know if Nokia E61i isn’t supported by the Gmail page yet, since I’m getting this error?
Cheers,
Henrik

Would be nice if they could tie the app into the Nokia software more, so you could configure the gmail app through the nokia mail setup, then link it in with the autocheck and flashy light etc.

I have tried everything suggested on every web site I can find…and still get the “This program requires a working data connection…” message every minute or two.
Has anyone pinpointed the cause of this error?

why fool with the gmail app. it’s nice but you can get free or nearly free push email right on your e61. just download mailforexchange and find a push provider. I would mention the one I’m using but for some reasson or glitch I’m not being charged. So I don’t want to loose that. But there are companies out there that charge less than $6 a month and some even for free. I get email notifications on my phone before my gmail client on my computer gets them. Just like a blackberry minus the $30 or more a month for that luxury.

I don’t like using gmail from the web interface or from the gmail java client. I wanted to use POP/SMTP to get my gmail. Here is how I got POP3 gmail to work with the E61’s Email Client.
1. Log into your gmail account and change your settings to allow POP3.
2. On your phone, set up a new email account as normal.
3. Set up the incoming/outgoing settings as follows:
Incomming:
User name: The email address you typicall use to log into gmail. I.E. “your username”@gmail.com
Password: The password you typically use to log into gmail
Incoming mail serv.: pop.gmail.com
Access point to use: Your choice
Mailbox name: Your choice, I choose “Gmail”
Mailbox Type: POP3
Security (ports): SSL/TLS
Port: User Defined / 995
APOP secure login: Off
Outgoing:
My email Address: Your gmail email address
Username: Your gmail email address you typically use to login
Password: Your gmail passwork you typicall use to login
Outgoing Mail serv: smtp.gmail.com
Access Point in use: Your choice
Security (ports): SSL/TLS
Port: User Defined / 465
That should get it going. You can customize how mail is stored on gmail from the gmail settings page. You can also set up auto retrieval from the settings on you phone. Just poke around the connection settings on your phone to see all the options. They are pretty self explainitory.

It doesn’t work on Nokia E65 with just the jar file, displaying error at starting application:
Network Error
java.lang
IllegalStateException:
This method is not
supported in com.nokia.mid.ui.FullCanvas
It works having the jad file as well in the same directory.
It’s important modifiying applet name here and the size of the jar file!!!
(You can modify applet name changing it in the jad file and in manifest.mnf(in jar) file.)
