It doesn't work on Nokia E65 with just the jar file, displaying error at starting application:
Network Error
java.lang
IllegalStateException:
This method is not
supported in com.nokia.mid.ui.FullCanvas

It works having the jad file as well in the same directory.
It's important modifiying applet name here and the size of the jar file!!!
(You can modify applet name changing it in the jad file and in manifest.mnf(in jar) file.)

I don't like using gmail from the web interface or from the gmail java client. I wanted to use POP/SMTP to get my gmail. Here is how I got POP3 gmail to work with the E61's Email Client.

1. Log into your gmail account and change your settings to allow POP3.
2. On your phone, set up a new email account as normal.
3. Set up the incoming/outgoing settings as follows:

Incomming:

User name: The email address you typicall use to log into gmail. I.E. "your username"@gmail.com
Password: The password you typically use to log into gmail
Incoming mail serv.: pop.gmail.com
Access point to use: Your choice
Mailbox name: Your choice, I choose "Gmail"
Mailbox Type: POP3
Security (ports): SSL/TLS
Port: User Defined / 995
APOP secure login: Off

Outgoing:
My email Address: Your gmail email address
Username: Your gmail email address you typically use to login
Password: Your gmail passwork you typicall use to login
Outgoing Mail serv: smtp.gmail.com
Access Point in use: Your choice
Security (ports): SSL/TLS
Port: User Defined / 465

That should get it going. You can customize how mail is stored on gmail from the gmail settings page. You can also set up auto retrieval from the settings on you phone. Just poke around the connection settings on your phone to see all the options. They are pretty self explainitory.

why fool with the gmail app. it's nice but you can get free or nearly free push email right on your e61. just download mailforexchange and find a push provider. I would mention the one I'm using but for some reasson or glitch I'm not being charged. So I don't want to loose that. But there are companies out there that charge less than $6 a month and some even for free. I get email notifications on my phone before my gmail client on my computer gets them. Just like a blackberry minus the $30 or more a month for that luxury.

I have tried everything suggested on every web site I can find...and still get the "This program requires a working data connection..." message every minute or two.

Has anyone pinpointed the cause of this error?

Would be nice if they could tie the app into the Nokia software more, so you could configure the gmail app through the nokia mail setup, then link it in with the autocheck and flashy light etc.

Hi,

I have just got an E61i and when I try to visit the page www.gmail.com/app or mobile.gmail.com/app it shows nothing on the page except "page not found".

I have tested both the Web and the Services browser but the same happens.

Does anyone know if Nokia E61i isn't supported by the Gmail page yet, since I'm getting this error?

Cheers,
Henrik

Well, Neither google nor opera mini works -- the catch is: they are unsigned and therefore not allowed to connect to the network...I wonder if there is anyway around this (tried to google it but nothing came up...)
