Apple Wireless Keyboard + Nokia E61 = True
As an update to the previous post about various wireless Bluetooth keyboards working with the Nokia E61 I can now report that Apple’s wireless keyboard works great with the E-Series devices.
Shaun was kind enough to send me this photo and video clip of his Nokia E60 and Apple’s wireless keyboard working together in perfect harmony.
The only thing needed to make the two work together was to download and install the Wireless Keyboard Application from Nokia. And yes, it does work with the Nokia E61 as well.

If you have Nokia’s Bluetooth Keyboard, it is much more convenient to use it and you can get an S60 3rd driver straightforward from Nokia’s E61 support page. learn hot at:

Tu: If your keyboard was previously paired with a computer, make sure you switch the keyboard off, then on again. Also, make sure the bluetooth on off on ur mac.

Installed the software and the it recognized the keyboard but could not connect, is there anything else I should do? I tried turning the keyboard off… no luck.

I too installed the software went to the find keyboards option, discovered the Apple wireless keyboard. It then notified me that a passcode for the phone and keyboard was required to pair. The application wouldn’t me enter the phone passcode and the keyboard doesn’t have one. No mention in the keyboard documentation either.
Any ideas out there??

I tried to download the driver for the Mac bluetooth keyboard but the web page appears to be unavailable. Can someone point me in the direction of a site I can download the driver from

Just to let people know that the Microsoft Bluetooth Desktop Keyboard worked seamlessly with my E61. Infact it installed easier than on XP.

Works great with my E60 but there is one major problem: reconnection doesn’t work. I have paired the keyboard with my E60. After switching the keyboard back on I start to type but keyboard doesn’t reconnect with my E60. I notice that the bluetooth status icon gets activated right after I type something: (*) … but Nokia Wireless Keyboard app doesn’t establish the connection. So I have to pair keyboard again everytime I want to use it. I guess this is a common problem with other bluetooth keyboards as well. So is this a phone firmware or Wireless Keyboard software problem?

[...] So I caved. I really wanted to get to the end of my Cingular 2 year agreement and just pick up an unlocked phone and feel free….and then I noticed how much full price phones cost. At least the fancy cool ones I wanted. After watching the Steve Jobs’ keynote last week with focus on the iPhone I did consider just waiting until June. Unfortunately I’ve been bitten by brand spanking new technology before, so even if Apple make the June deadline it probably won’t be until the second or third version of the phone that I’d be truly happy (yes, I know they will push out updates to the phone through software, but there is only so much you can do). So in the end I went and picked up a Nokia E62. I was a little worried about how mac friendly it might be but with a little hacking, it syncs perfectly. Both my Address Book and Calendar are now synchronized between my mac and phone thanks to this hint. I also got it set up pretty quickly as a modem for my mac laptop whenever I’m away from a wireless hotspot. My latest success was having my old bluetooth keyboard work with the phone (okay, so this one isn’t very functional - the keypad on the phone is pretty decent, but just the fact that you can do it is cool!). Also there are some great blogs out there (mainly ran by E61 owners, the European equivalent of the E62). I found this one especially useful in getting me up to speed on the phone. So if you’re in the market for a new phone and want to try a smartphone (but aren’t all that impressed by Windows Mobile) then give this one a try. Most carriers has some sort of trial period. I have tried to use a Brando Smart keyboard with my E61 (it is listed as a phone that should work) but the CD has no driver for the E61 and although Nokia’s own BT keyboard software recognises it it fails to connect. Any ideas out there?

So, I just bought the newest model of the Think Outside BT Keyboards and my phone will neither recognize the .sis driver protocols from neither Nokia or TO.
Any ideas?

Hello. I was just wondering, if the selection keys and the Application Key work on an Apple keyboard, or do I have to press the keys on the mobile phone itself? As far as I’ve understood, the SU-8W is the only bluetooth KB that has deticated S60 keys. Since the Apple keyboard is a lot cheaper than Nokia’s I was hoping, it could be a good alternative.

I am also happy to report that the E65 can also be paired with the ThinkOutside Sierra BT keyboard. You will need to download the Wireless KB application from Nokia

Actually, this is more a question for the e65 but I’m trying to be a good girl and obey the request to put technical questions in a comment :-> Does anyone know whether just a wireless (not Bluetooth) keyboard will work? I have been using a BTC 6100C mini-keyboard but had a small liquid accident with it… As long as I have to replace it anyway, I was thinking of getting an equally small-footprint keyboard that might work to input data to my brand-spanking-new e65. The apple wireless keyboard works great with my E61. I have yet to test it with my E61i yet but I don’t think there will be any problems.
As my new job requires me to take minutes @ meetings and I don’t want to lug my laptop around for that, I just bring my E61 + apple wireless keyboard along with me to the boardroom, type away (in Notes) while everyone in the room is wondering where i’m typing to and when it’s done, I just e-mail it back to my work e-mail and do a copy + paste + some editing and the minutes are ready!

Nokia execs - if you’re reading this, we need a faster device. The E-series phones are EXCELLENT and room for improvement.

Has anyone tried the Apple Wireless Keyboard together with the Nokia E51? I did, but unfortunately without success.
Is it possible that it has to do with a certain HID specific?
