You can’t beat free. Especially when what you get is a great, useful product or service. One such a great service I stumbled across is Mail2Web LIVE. A free email service based on Microsoft Exchange. Because it is Microsoft Exchanged based, and Mail For Exchange is available as a free download for your Nokia E-Series device you can get free push email on your device.
The set up is very easy. You sign up for Mail2Web LIVE, download and install the Mail For Exchange client on your Nokia E61 and you are up and running.
By signing up to Mail2web LIVE you will get a @mail2web.com email address that is based on Microsoft Exchange 2003 server. You can access your email, calendar, contacts etc through a web interface but the exciting part is the free push email and more feature.
Web2Mail LIVE will push your email, calendar and contacts to your Nokia E-Series device, just like any other Microsoft Exchange implementation.
This is a great service for someone who either wants to just take Microsoft Exchange and Mail For Exchange for a test drive, or someone who wants a reliable and free push email solution. In either case, I highly recommend their service.
Many email providers, for an example gmail, will let you set up email forwarding so that all your received email gets automatically forwarded to an additional address, for an example your @mail2web.com address. This way you can “piggy back” on Mail2Web’s free service and get free push email of other mail accounts.
If your mail provider doesn’t support email forwarding, Mail2Web LIVE can set up email retrieval of POP3 and IMAP accounts. However, mail will only be retrieved once an hour. So while the email will be pushed directly to your device when it arrives at your Mail2Web account, it might take up to an hour for the message to be retrieved by Mail2Web’s servers.
I was genuinely impressed by Mail2Web LIVE service, support and product. It is fast, robust and free
My only complain is that I thought it was hard to find the settings for Mail For Exchange (ActiveSync settings). But if you log on to your customer control panel and go to “Free Services” and then select “Mail2Web LIVE” you will see the settings needed to set up Mail For Exchange on your Nokia E-Series device.

An even minor complaint was that I kept on forgetting to log on with my FULL @mail2web.com’s email address. I tried just using my registered name without the @mail2web.com part, but that didn’t work. So save yourself some trouble and remember to use your FULL email address when you log on to the services.

There are other companies that offers free push email but this is the first company that I have seen that offer free Microsoft Exchange email with the push functionality turned on.
Mail2Web offers a number of paid services such as email and domain hosting as well. I am so impressed by their free service that I am now considering letting them host my e-series.org mail.
UPDATE:
Needless to say be careful when you synchronize your device the first time. If your device contains information already make sure your “Sync Content” preferences are set to “In case of Conflict”, “Phone Wins” the first time you use the service so you don’t accidently erase any data. In addition, do back up all your data before.

So do you need to signup for the paid mail2web service to change the reply address?
Zaraiman,
Yes, you have to sign up for the paid service in order to change your reply to address. It’s cheap and well worth it!

for replying using my gmail server, i did the following;
I set up my gmail with in build email client (mannual retrieve selected) and set the mail retrieve up to 5 mails with header only.
When i received my email by mail2web and i have to reply the mail, i just launch my in build email client and retrieve only the 5 mails header (choose 5 mails because less time on connect to gmail) download to my phone and reply using that gmail account. No need to subscribe , save money.
Wish may help .
Does mail2web works with Nokia E61i or Nokia 6110 navigator?
During first sync can we specify email start date to be specified so that not all my emails as synced with mobile phone, reason being my email folder at work is quite huge (more that 2GB).
Shaun,
mail2web and Mail For Exchange on the Nokia E61 works great together. I used the E61 to write the above post. You can set MFE so that it only fetches the last 7 days of mail or less, so you don’t have to worry about retrieving all the email in your account.
Cheers
Ed
Can anyone help me? Lately I have noticed that MFE encounters problem syncronising, sometimes I received this message “UNTRUSTED CERTIFICATE RECEIVED, CONTACT YOUR ADMINISTRATOR”. So whenever I change the SECURE CONNECTION setting to NO on the connection tab of MFE, then synchronisation will be successful. Could anybody give me a lead on this problem and the solution to it.
Yes I encounterd similar Untrusted Certificate error in my E61i for mail2web exchange services. I turned off ‘Secure Connection’ in Mail For Exchange properties and it worked.
When I checked list of pre installed certificates between E61 and E61i (Settings -> Security -> Certificates), there are around 5/7 certificates from Verisign and few other that are not present in E61i. Probably its because of this we are facing problem.
I checked mail2web’s FAQ and found that they are using certificate issued by comodogroup.com. I tried one that was already installed in my IE7, exported in .cer format, moved into E61i and installed in it. It didn’t help though.
Is the push email service by mail2web still free?
I registered and the mail function works fine. But, I can`t sync my calendar? Why?

This is just GREAT ! Thanks for sharing this information.
What do you do with companies that do not allow you to forward emails? I can only access it on outlook web access.
Hi,
This setup works great! I have one question though… When I reply from my E51, the email goes out from my mail2web id. Is there any way I can have the from email address changed to my work email, so that it appears to come from my work email and not mail2web?
Thanks!
Is it secure enough to register my business email there?? Also, does it then require GPRS or WiFi connection to download emails?
Brilliant - thanks for this.
Was using mobile mail on 3 in the UK and the service wasn’t great.
This worked first time and is much better, thanks again.
Hmm, I use to host my private email. It’s a reputable company and I trust them. GPRS or WiFi connection depends on the device/solution and not Mail2Web. Mail2Web supports both. Sign up and try it out, the basic level is free.
I don’t get what all the fuss is about. Gmail now have IMAP in place, so setting up Gmail on E Series is even easier than before and its a simple step. You tell the phone when to connect and check for email, and it does and if there is anything to download etc, then it does that. So whats the need for all this push service?
I’m not criticising anybody here, but just a little confused that’s all.
Im a noob and Im a little confused about the Push service of Mail2web.
My first synch was successful, and I did that manually. When I set my phone to Auti Synch, however, it appears that it synchs only every 15 minutes by establishing a connection every 15 minutes. Isnt that just Pull mail, not Push? I was thinking I should be connected all the time and any email received should automatically be synched on my phone. Ive got an unlimited data plan with my network so it shouldnt be a problem. How should I make the phone “always online”?
Im using an E51. Many thanks!
i have used my company mail thru IMAP on my E50. but i cannot access it from my E61i!? can anyone tell me if a HARD RESET will fix it or not! or if i upgrade to the new firmware, will it be any better? ma friend suggested me a hard reset. my boss uses his account on his e90 without any hassle and anywhere - while roaming too! since i was the one who get him to buy the e90 for the use of email only, i find it hard to accept that i myself cant use it when its necessary. help pls!
Mail 2 web works fine with MFE option on my NOKIA E90 Communicator. But it does drain your battery. So depends basically on your choice people.
I don’t see the reason for it to work on E50 and not on the E61i, by any chance you have the settings wrong? The SSL, ports, or maybe proxy settings?
Hi ppl, Thanks for the info regarding M4E. I’m going to use GMX.com for my mail for exchange purpose since they are providing 5GB of space for mails. Besides, if all goes well, i’ll keep this mail permemantly for my primary mails.. So wish me luck.

Hi ppl and admin, Thanks for the blog on email, plus on the M4E software.. I just installed M4E on N95-1 for the past 2 weeks and was searching for a decent M4E Email server. Thanks to your M4E blog and this blog as well, all is working fine. Finally, the perfect M4E program and and M4E server (Mail2Web). All thanks to you ppl out here..

Using Airtel Live! Profile..,checking emails every 1 hr..
Hi ppl..
To D.C -There’s a lot of difference between imap/pop3 or mail for exchange transmissions. You can access emails on imap or pop provided you have full access tcp/ip gprs profile activated. on the other hand, mail for exchange is being working on my mobile without the full tcp/ip access profile. So that very much explains everything. Not everyone has or wishes to use flat rate grps plan all the time, so some may prefer to check emails every 6-12hrs once or once a day. Peace out..
P.S Thanks for the mail2web blog ed.. was very useful.
