(Updated with change log below)
Thanks to everyone who wrote to tell me that the new firmware for the Nokia E61, V3.0633.09.04, is available through Nokia Software Updater. While the upgrade couldn’t have gone smoother for me, some people have reported some initial issues so before you upgrade take a second to think this through before you upgrade. Perhaps it’s better to wait a few days.

If you do decide to upgrade make sure you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS, BACK UP ALL YOUR INFORMATION and have plenty of time.
You don’t want to rush this.
Improvements/changes I’ve noticed so far:
- Overall *much faster* UI performance - best feature/improvement so far IMO
- Browser is *much* quicker
- Mail For Exchange works fine
- If you accidentally press the voice record button on the side the application launches but doesn’t start to automatically record like before~! Yay - no more accidentally recorded sound snippets
- Faster sending of SMS
- Changes to Internet Telephony Application
- NAT Support (needs to be fully confirmed)
- Better IMAP handling

Hello anyone!
I recently found problem with creating AP with IP Passthrough bearer.
Is anyone have stumble upon this?
I create Access Point…. then press back button….
Seems no response… but infact the access point was saved… if you press 3X then you will see 3 same access point (can’t be delete/not shown on access point setting)… only shown if you connect to internet using “ask every time” option… I have created 6 access point with same name :’(
Anyone have solution?
Just upgraded to v 3.xx via force flashing. Alls gone quite well Blackberry’s working etc. One niggle the primary display screen now only shows 1 line for calendar entries. previously it showed upto 4 lines . Now only 1. Any ideas on how to fix this is there a hidden setting?
Sadly after installing this update, my phone cant connect to UMTS networks. im on 3 in denmark. the solution is to select dual mode under networks. again sadly 3 removed this option so im stuck at gprs.
Software / firmware version 3.0633.09.04 is now available for the UK Vodafone-branded E61, without force flashing. Just use the Nokia Software Updater as normal. Takes a little while to run, but it works.
Im in Nigeria, after reading every response on this site, I was a bit skeptical about the software upgrade, fear gripped my mind on the update, called a Nokia Service Center, they told me it will take upto 3 - 4 days for them to do it for me. I summoned courage and went ahead on my own, though I am using a dial up connection, it took me almost 6 hours to get it done. as at the time the software updater was downloading the update….i felt a bit relaxed until it gets to the point of updating the phone….immediately i saw update successful…i was the happiest person on earth cos i was looking forward to the added feature from the v3, infact i realised some sad comments by other responder tends not to be true. anyway…i advice other e61 user to give it a trial, its worth it. Thank you all, ciao
My mobile Nokia E-61 can not read the thai web
Took me a while to summon enough courage to install the update. Basically I really need my E61 with BlackBerry Connect. Lately I got the BlackBerry 8800 so I could afford to try the update and not to worry about my E61 will stop functioning. The update is extremely smooth. The only issue was some of the apps I installed were not meant for s60 3rd edition. I needed to uninstall one app manually (similar to the process of removing unwanted themes which could not uninstall under application manager). I noticed the new firmware on E61 was a lot faster than the old one. Old version of BlackBerry Connect was not working with this new firmware. I just installed the new version of BlackBerry Connect and everything was working fine.
Some people might think I would stick with the BlackBerry 8800 as some of the BB addicts woulddo. However, I was very disappointed with the multimedia functions on the BlackBerry
hi i updated my e61 like jp and now i cant open any jpg files?
it keeps saying the following “unable to execute file for security reasons”
can anyone help me out please
Hi
Thank you so much for this posting. I upgraded my firmware and BB just stopped working. Went to Vodafone and they had NO clue what was going and couldn’t support it. I was told to increase my contract for another 18 months if I wanted a phone - Blackberry - to handle my email on the move. But along comes this posting and the whole phone is working. I do so enjoy working with Nokia rather.
Honestly - thanks a lot.
Rgds
Andre
Andre, you might have backed up your old BB software and it’s still “installed” in the new FW when you restored your files-causing a conflict between old and new versions.
Happened to me while upgrading to the 2.0x- I would reinstall the newer BB and it wouldn’t work because the old one was still there. My carrier had me do a hard reset to clear the old BB and I downloaded the new BB and it worked.
With that in mind, I upgraded to the new FW minutes ago. Before doing that, I removed the current BB app and backed up all my files. Took 10 mins to install new FW, restored my files and then went to install the new BB from nokia site. Voila! Worked without a hitch.
E61’s still a terrific phone!
my e61 failed after a firware update was in progress.
now when i turn it on, all i get is a the white email indicator light..
that is all..
can someone help me?
thanks
george

I had the same problem. Tried to update it and somehow crashed it. Had to took it to Vodafone store who sent it to repairs. Got it back and now it works again. In Vodafone nobody asked any questions, they just got it fixed and that’s all.
dear Ed

Thanks in advance
with regards

I’ve got one question:
My version is 2.0618.06.05 but Nokia NSU says that no software update is available. The phone has some minor Vodafone customisation (i.e. I have all features, nothing missing but it has some bookmarks to vodafone services and so on). Is it because of this?
Thank you for your answers…
I just upgraded to the new Firmware on my e61. What Blackberry Connect should I be loading in order for my Blackberry email to work in the United States over Tmobile? The Nokia Business Software downloader indicates that “Sorry, currently this operator does not support software for your device” when I select that I’m in the Americas and on Tmobile. There’s still a PC download available [2.1.1.22] and I went ahead and downloaded it. I can’t get my Blackberry e-mail to work. Should I download the UK version of BBC 4? Thanks.
Hi, I have an e61i changed the product code to 0523307 and used NSU. to do a firmware upgrade. However it still says I have the latest firmware as I want v3. can anyone help ?

How do you install or activate an over-the-air update?
How do you upgrade the E61 to Feature Pack 1, 2 or 3?
Many thanks.
hi everyone, update went smoothly. Browser seems faster. Sound quality on loudspeaker hasnt improved and is perhaps worse.
major problems though for me are: message - “log: unable to execute file for security reasons.”,. This message appears when, trying to view options menu on last dialed numbers, trying to delete many applications, trying to delete old notes which were backed up and restored after update. Can anyone help me with this? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. M
On the Nokia business website, they mention firmware 3.633.11.01 for the E61… But it’s not available in NSU and I wasn’t able to find any other reference to it…
3.0633.11.01 is for Japan(Japanese language) only
Nope… the version 3 firmware was available in english. I did download it about a year back and installed it on my phone. Currently in use.
However, I have been looking for it for another E61 unit that i just got, but i can’t find the firmware download for ver 3…. anymore.
I’m thinking maybe nokia pulled in back…???
