The Camera on Nokia E65
I have received a few questions regarding the camera on the Nokia E65 and thought I should share some sample photos taken with the Nokia E65.

The camera on the device is a 2 megapixel camera. While this is not going to impress the pixel hunters who might compare the camera on the Nokia E65 to the camera of the Nokia N93 and the Nokia N95, I found that the camera of the Nokia E65 takes great pictures.
The camera is equipped with a "Night Mode" setting for taking pictures in low light conditions, a 10-30 seconds self timer and a "sequence Mode" for multiple photos.
There are also settings to adjust the white balance and the colour tone.
The image resolution can be set to either 640×480 or 1600×1200 for still shots and 128×96, 176×44 or 352×288 for video.
With prices for memory dropping so rapidly I recommend using "High" setting for image quality and 1600X1200 for image resolution. I picked up a 1GB Kingston Micro SD for only $7.00 on Amazon.
As a typical Nokia E65 user I prioritize the business voice functions and the broad corporate email support of the device over a more advanced camera. For me, the camera is more than adequate.

It’s a pretty good quality image that it takes. And a big difference from 1.3 megapixel.

As always GREAT POST, Ed.
Thanks for sharing!

I actually find it’s much better than my N80. Megapixels isn’t the whole story… Now if it only had a flash!

That camera looks great! Where did you all purchase the phone? Ebay? I want to buy one but am afraid of buying a phone on ebay because the last few I’ve gotten have had non-english keys, which I didn’t know until the phone got to me.

Yes, the E65 can produce some very nice shots in bright light, given the fact that there is no flash or autofocus.
I was browsing through nokia.com’s Discussions pages last night and there are some real meatheads there. “I’m returning my E65 coz the camera sucks! The N95 has much better camera!!”
Well, duh! Miss the point much, chief?

Don’t forget to use the Flickr Camera Finder in times like these for lots of real world usage:

Although why the E65 isn’t there I can’t say — perhaps Nokia did not add EXIF data to its output for some bizarre reason? Or is it just too new?

Hello together, finally- I have one and I love it. Released here in Germany last week unbranded. My E61 was a great phone bit the E65 is much better. Not only for the fact that it has the camera but the size is what made the decision easy for me.

Is my E65 the only phone without light on the number buttons?

I’d have to agree with Mike… The camera and size sealed the deal for me! I loved my nokia e61, but, when I got my hands on the e65…WOW! What a great phone! I’ve got through many, many phones over the years, and the e65 is the first phone that I’ve truly been happy with.

Hi there, I just bought my E65. I tried taking a landscape photo, but couldn’t save it as a portrait after taking it. Is that normal for E64 phone. As I know other nokia phones allows editing to be made on photos after capturing it.

Interesting to see. I just did a search for “nokia e65 camera sucks” because I was wondering if maybe my phone was defective. My last phone had a 2 MP camera and I was fine with it. My e65 can’t even take a decent face shot under ideal lighting conditions. The pictures you show would be completely impossible with my e65

Hi Eric,
Sorry to hear about your experience with the camera on the E65. I am really happy with the quality and think the pictures are great, as you can see from the photos above.
Cheers

On my E65 camera I get a shutter delay. The shutter clicks and then the actual photo which is taken is the image which is seen about second after the shutter clicks…so I end up haveing to hold the camera for a second after the shutter already has clicked…is this something which I can adjust?

Also,
Is there a way to turn the shutter sound off?
Thanks

Well i have some problems with the camera of Nokia E65
the problem is after taking the shoot …by 2 sec. the picture that is filed is the one after 2 sec.
in another was…when you have a kid in front of you and you need an immediate picture you do not have the picture, as it looks like it is what you took but in 2 sec. you find another pose
thanks

Hi,
I love my E65 but think the camera could be better in terms of resolution. I am toying with the idea of replacing the camera with a higher res camera (preferably 5 mega pixels). Have you heard or know of anyone who has done that and where E65 parts (i.e. the camera) can be bought?
Btw, thanks for this great site! I have it bookmarked!
