Absolutely, Positively Must Have Accessories For Nokia E61
I have a short list of accessories for Nokia E61 that have improved the overall user experience and helped me get more out of my device. These are three add-ons that you have to pry from my hands. First on my list (in my particular order) is the retractable sync and charger cable from Boxwave. I can’t stop raving about this little bad boy.
I tried assembling my own retractable sync charger and even wrote about it here. It worked as a USB charger but wasn’t very practical (or pretty).

Not only does the boxwave cable sync and charge your device but it actually charges two devices at the same time. The sync end of the cable (Pop-port) will charge your device as well as the charger tip of the cable. The standard Nokia USB/Pop-port cable doesn’t charge.
The cable feels sturdy and the retractable part will probably last a long time.
Next on the list is the Nokia HS-23 Stereo Headset. If you spend a fair amount of your time on conference calls, or just simply on long calls, you will *love* this product.
It is such a different and much better experience hearing the conversation from both your ears rather than from one ear. The difference is like night and day. All of a sudden you really feel like you are in the conference room or infront of the person you are talking to. I never thought the basic telephone experience could be enhanced to this level.

Great sound quality for both ends of the call - it’s a must have for the serious talker!

Last item on my list is an additional battery just in case you forgot to charge your device or are running low on juice. Call me paranoid but I have a spare battery for my camera, PowerBook, laptop and a battery pack for my iPod ![]()
Batteries are sold by various companies. Boxwave has one for $25 and this shop seems to constantly have a battery on sale for 12.90. These batteries are not original Nokia batteries but *might* be almost as good as the real McCoy.

These are my absolutely, positively must have accessories for Nokia E61. What are yours?

The Nokia Wireless Keyboard SU-8W, it is really great.

With a QWERTY keypad on board, is lugging around an extra keyboard necessary?

For me, the Nokia CR-47 Mobile Holder (http://www.nokia.co.uk/accessorieslink?s=CR-47) makes the e61 shine in the car! Coupled with your favorite Bluetooth GPS Receiver (BT-359S) and Software like tomtom, the CR-47 will reduce your mobile clutter of gadgets in the car…

Is anyone using the Nokia AD-46 Audio Adapter with the E61? Wondering if it works?

For me the Jabra BT150 bluetooth headset is an must have accessory to my E61 (and my iBook)
January 17th, 2007 at 8:15 am
I just got my AD-46 for an N80ie and it is great. Along with some inexpensive sony ear buds it is way better than the supplied unit.
Using it walking around as a handsfree is not as great but I could have something setup wrong.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:15 am
i’m using the ad-46 with a decent pair of sennheiser headphones, it works well, even the microphone is good for recording things.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:29 am
I own a AD-46 and it works great with my E61.The only problem is that if you plug in your headphones, the total length of the cable is more than 2m which is really annoying. All butons on the adapter work with OS9.1. (Call Button and Volume Up and Down button). jan

I use the AD-46 with sony Earplugs and a detachable long cable. makes the E61 coupled with AD and Sony´s earplugs on a short cable just the purrrrfect soundsystem!
January 17th, 2007 at 10:07 am
I use the AD-46 adapter with an old pear of Sony MDR-V4 dynamic stereo headphones. Works well and very good sound quality. I have had them since june last year but I just learned that there is also a volume adjust buttom. Thanks guys

Ahhhh… perfect timing for this thread!!!
My friend just got a HS-20/AD-41 off someone from ebay.
I notice that it makes hissing and popping noise when you use the volume or FF buttons. This makes me reluctant in buying one for myself. Does anyone notice this anomaly? I just think it may be a knockoff Nokia headset.
Thanks for anyone’s advice!!

I’m not sure which adaptor it is I have. Sounds like the one you all have but with no microphone. It has a very short wire and I plug it into the transmitter of my Logitech Wireless MP3 headphones so there are no wires to get in the way anywhere. A Bluetooth stereo headset paired straight to the phone wouldn’t do as good a job as the sound that comes from the phone via direct Bluetooth is awful and in mono. Why, Nokia?

Any one who has a link to the : The Nokia Wireless Keyboard SU-8W, it is really great.
or any luck with a laser / optical keyboard.. it should work and look cool.. really james bondish (-:

I have the Nokia HS-23 Stereo Headset and you’re right…they’re great. I use a boothtooth headset for most of my calls (just like the wireless thing when in transit) but I use the stereo headset to listen to music. The sound quality is good and who needs an ipod when you can carry just the one device.
January 18th, 2007 at 3:18 am
I have a Nokia AD-41 with Sony Walkman Headphones… Music Rocks on the Nokia E61… Dont judge the music output with the HS-20/AD-41….instead connect some good headphones like the Sony Walkman Headphones to the AD-41 instead of HS-20…..
January 18th, 2007 at 3:20 am
just bought copilot fir the e61. have tried it on a short trip and it seems to do the job. Low volume on speakers though. Any advice on the best way to stick my phone to my dash board? Copilot has a magnet, but I am not sure I want to have magnets around a memory card.
January 18th, 2007 at 11:20 am
I tried looking up the HS-20/AD-41 on Nokia’s US website and it does not come up, which leads me to believe it is not available here yet. However, does anyone know if this device would work on the E62?
January 18th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
rklear:
E62 uses regular 3.5mm stereo jack for earphones and HS/AD has the pop-port. So AD/HS isin’t compatible w your phone.
Ajit:
I’m not talking about the earphones, I know they aren’t the greatest of quality. I’m just concerned about the noise the controller makes when u use it, that’s all.

Just got me a PDA craddle from EBay. It is some K4Mobile craddle, specially for E61, but I have an issue with it. It simply keeps disconnecting the phone. I cannot do any operation without being disconnected. If i press the phone down then the results are better.
The craddle is also a charger through the POP Port, has an AC outlet, but can charge through USB too.
Has anybody had an issue like this 1? Looks like the phone contactsaren’t connecting corretly to the craddle. Solutions? Suggestions?

I have the E-62 and a little problem: although it does have a 3.5mm jack the fact is that it doesn’t work with regular earphones plugged via 2mm/3.5mm adaptors nor with my nokia hdd1 (if I recall the model #…), a 3.5mm earphone with mike (it has two pieces for the ears but as I just used it with nokia 6600, I really don’t know if it is actually stereo). The hdd1 still functions with my nokia6600 (for both listening to mp3 files and phone conversation).
Bottom line: until the present day I never managed to listen to mp3 files, dvd converted movies or phone calls in stereo earphones with my E-62. Any help Ed??

Jairo:- check out http://www.proclipusa.com. I find their holders very good. I currently use their holder for my E61 here in the US….
Still waiting for Co-Pilot (Symbian) for the US. I have Co-Pilot on my Window Mobile PDA and would like to still with them…..

X-man,
Oh!! okay…but I dont think it adds up any noise to the sound…and if you atre talking about the plastics sound of the buttons, I dont feel it makes any sound and even if it does…with the earphones plugged in your ears you wont be able to hear that…. But anyway do be careful about counterfiet accessories……..
bruno,
Dude you got it all wrong….. The headphones that you use with the 6600 is NOT THE STANDARD 3.5MM Stereo Jack.. The standard 3.5 MM Jack is used with walkmans, cd players..etc and the same is found even on the Nokia E62… The one on the Nokia 6600 is Nokia’s properietary port that is used to connect mobile headsets designed for the phone only…. The headset has a microphone with a call answer button and earphone… So if you use that headset with the E62 it WILL NOT WORK….. Hope this helps you dude….

ajit
thanks a lot for the quick response! Really appreciated! I understood what you said and I realize I was partially wrong because I have mixed up 2.5mm with 3.5mm jacks. sorry…
but I must tell you: 1) I said that about the 6600 because it doesn’t have pop-port (traditional Nokia proprietary port) and does have a port for a 2.5mm plug (P1), exactly the same size and shape of my E-62 plug (a bit thinner than the P2 stereo jacks - 3,5mm standard in cd players, walkmans, pc-out sound jacks etc.); 2)just browse the web for my earphone Nokia HDD-1 (KJ48863491) made in china (bought here in Brazil from an official nokia retailer) and you will see what I’m talking about; 3) In spite of all that, the thing is: whatever earphone I plug in the E62’s 3.5mm port (be it my hdd-1 or standard stereo 3,5mm adapted to 2,5mm) my cel shows “enhanced not allowed”… Just the 2,5mm monoaural phone that came along works.
Would that be due to the adaptation of 3,5mm to 2,5mm jacks? If I use a 2,5mm straight plug would it solve the issue? Could anyone who has E62 and got it right enlight me?
SORRY FOR THE KILOMETRIC POST!!!! THANKS ONCE MORE AJIT!!! E-SERIES ROCKS THE HOUSE!!

Hello, i have a Nokia E62, how do i use the Nokia HS-23 Stereo Headset?. Its connector doesn’t seem to be compatible with this phone, simpyl does not fit.
January 19th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
For anyone who has the Nokia E62, Boxwave has a version of the retractable sync charger for the model (E62 doesn’t have pop-port like the E61). Just type the “Nokia E62″ at the search field on the homepage.
This is a great accessory, which I am definitely getting for myself! Thanks for sharing your must-have list Ed.

Hey Bruno:
I have an E62 (from Cingular) as well. I have experienced the same problems as yourself. I have tried five different 2.5mm wired headsets from Verizon and Cingular and also a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter with a built-in mic from eBay and none are compatible with the E62. I sent Nokia’s tech support two emails asking when/if they were going to release a compatible headset but I never received a reply from them (it’s been six weeks). Don’t hold your breath for this one.
The video conversion issue has been a challenge for me. I spent 3 weeks researching, downloading and converting video clips per suggestions at the UK Nokia forum (which, BTW, is the BEST support forum I have ever seen). I have tried several different conversion programs but I have never been able to achieve smooth video using Realplayer. I downloaded “Divxplayer” but it expired after using it for one day. That program was the best at video playback that I could find but I do not know of any others. I hope other E62 users out there have had much better experiences with the E62.

i have the e61 and I”m using ad-41 with some other gi headphones. the sound is not very good. sometimes, especially in the cold weather, the device does not even accept this setup. When I plug in I get four consecutive popping noises (as though it’s trying in vain to connect) and a beep with the message: enhancement not supported. Later on, for a reason I have yet to ascertain, everything works fine. Of course, when it is working, the sound is substandard. Distortion starts at low volume levels. The sound is dirty, not clear. The bass is either nonexistent or fractious and blown. The ad-41 appears to be a cheap piece of junk and the volume/track controls on the unit do not function properly when coupled with the e61. Is the ad-46 better? Do stereo bluetooth units perform well for music?
January 20th, 2007 at 8:46 am
Hi,
I got my e61 a USB cradle and a case called a Stingray Scuba case. More about these here:
http://www.kashmirnetwork.com/e61/index.php?doc=my_e61_accessories
I plan to get a flip-type leather case custom-built for my e61.
The Nokia Audio Adapter AD-41 paired with Sony Ericsson’s HPM-70 headset works pretty well for me.
Check the combo out at :
http://www.kashmirnetwork.com/e61/index.php?doc=e61_as_an_iPod_killer
The sound is super, the volume/track/call controls work perfectly and and no issues with cold weather [6 degrees below zero out here]
January 20th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
yes, well, judging from other posts, perhaps I purchased a knockoff AD-41, as I bought it off of eBay and it bears are the hallmarks of a knockoff–shoddy craftsmanship, off centered imprintation … caveat emptor!
do other ad-41 users have a good impression of this product?

I also have sent an e-mail to Nokia in Brazil and they kept in silence until now (3 months). Thanks for sharing your experience - concerning to stereo earphones I will be in resignation for now.
About video convertion: I use smartmovie from lonelycatgames and its converter (counterpart pc app that comes along). As I do have lots of movies in avi format (700MB average) I started converting them. I am almost there in terms of playback smoothness (image and sound quality are already great). The file size after convertion is about 120/130MB - and I think will not change much from now on. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED ANSWER THROUGH HERE AND I HELP YOU
January 21st, 2007 at 2:12 pm
David:
Have you tried Smartmovie? I think it works quite well because you can preroll the sound so it’s synched up w the video. I use Xilisoft for DVD movies w similar settings from Smartmovie and I think it’s even smoother than the converter than comes w SM. There’s also a free prog called Super Convertor(erightsoft) but you have to tweak it a bit for best results.
bodybydada:
Glad to see I’m not the only one w this concern. When you purchased you’re headset from ebay it probably didnt come in a Nokia blister package, did it? I think the one my friend got showed up in a plastic bag only.

I’m happy with the AD-41 adapter that I have… Here in India I find many counterfiets available that look the same… so be careful while getting an AD-41 adapter…
January 23rd, 2007 at 9:43 am
I’m using the Nokia AD-46 on my E61 with Koss Porta Pro headphones. With the first E61 firmware, the audio quality was poor (popping noise). With the both successive firmwares the quality is GREAT!!!
It’s delightful to listen in e.g. internet AAC+ radio in bed in the evening.

I ordered a few items from Boxwave on Wednesday, 2nd Day Air. They showed up today, (Thursday). I wasn’t expecting that quick of Service as I live in Alaska. Thanks Daniel, I took your purchasing them as a recommendation, so far the minisync cable is working flawlessly, I bought it mainly as a charger, but it’s nice to being charging while I’m moving data around.
January 27th, 2007 at 2:07 am
I posted but it never showed up, so I’ll post again.
I ordered 3 items from BoxWave on Wednesday and they showed up the next day! I ordered the E61 Cable-Sync cable the Versa adapter and the universal adapter kit. Thank you Daniel for recommending these items. It reduces the piece count that I have to carry around with me.

There’s a couple of options, depending on your budget.
(1) Firstly there’s the Nokia CR-47 for AU$86.99 on the nokia website. (Check your local one for price.)
(2) Secondly there’s http://www.proclipusa.com. at US$19.99 or US$29.99.
(3) Thirdly there’s a lot of cheaper car holders around in Australia (not sure about where you are) that look like this http://www.solware.co.uk/2005-images/smp_pic3.gif. They also come with clips on the back for an air vent. If you chose this option you’d be best buying in person so that you could check the beautifully wide E61 fits in the holder.

Did anyone had any problem w/ Motorola bluetooth headset HS820. The headset connects to my E61, but I can’t hear and the other side can’t hear me neither, any ideas?

I’ve the same problem with motorola hs820 and Nokia E65. Maybe devices are not compatible.

I have the same problem with the motorola hs820, although its working fine with my nokia 9500

Please help me i dont know about bluetooth headset. Is nokia e61 is compatibilty with bh-601?
September 8th, 2007 at 10:44 pm
I have the same problem with an hs820 and an e65, no sound comes through the hs820. They are definately collected, and the volume controls on the hs820 adjust the control on the E65, but no sound comes out. (The easiest way to test is to try playing something in the gallery, then connect the hs820 and play with the volume controls.).

Being in an industry that requires me to ‘run’ around the E61 is a durable piece of communications equipment.. i have in my haste accidently cracked the battery cover exactly at the battery clip..is there anyplace/where i can get an original ‘metal’ battery cover?? thanks a million
