If you use your Eseries device to listen to radio your are going to like this. If you don’t already use your device for this purpose I suggest that you try it out.
Radio and the Nokia E61 has been covered quite extensively before. If you are a beginner there are some basic posts you might want to go through. (Start with this then perhaps this post go on to any of these posts. I would also recommend that you scan through the comments of these posts. There are some GREAT tips and answers to many questions that a newbie or even an advanced user will run into).
Anyway, Becket was kind enough to send me a playlist of “Digitally Imported” radio (Di.fm). “Digitally Imported” is is a multi-channel Internet radio service specializing in Electronic Dance Music genres.
Make sure that you have the two necessary applications, Internet Radio Client and the Shoutcast Engine, installed and download the playlist. I recommend installing the two applications on a an external miniSD card. (If you install the applications on the main phone memory you might have a problem finding the “shoutcast” directory so make it easy on yourself and install the applications on a memory card.)
Once you have downloaded the playlist make sure to transfer the .pls file via PC suite (or if you are on a Mac, connect via Bluetooth and use “browse device” feature to transfer the .pls file) to your your “shoutcast” directory on the miniSD card.
Then, fire up the application and enjoy listening to the recently added DI.FM stations.
Thanks Becket! and a big thank you to everyone participating in the comment sections of the radio posts.
Ed, thanks for finally posting my contribution to your blog ))
If anyone of you guys encounter problems with some of the channels in the list - contact me by mail mentioning the channel which caused problem - I will try to check and correct the list if needed and send it back to you.
Have a nice listening!
Thanks for these stations, I was wondering how can I make my own shoutcast playlist? I would love have radio538 or some other dutch stations on my E61!
when i tried to open the playlist a new web page open with some text, what i should do then,
thank your for your response
Mohammed, I think the problem is that you’re trying to open the playlist using your phone’s Gallery. You should not do that. Just copy the playlist to /shoutcast directory of your phone memory or memory card (depending on where you have Internet Radio applications installed) and the contents of the playlist will appear in Internet Radio application’s stations list on its next launch.
nice! i had also done something similar.. http://samgonzales.blogspot.com/2006/10/more-radio-stations-for-nokia-e61.html
with shoutcast.com and somafm.com however i do get server errors sometimes..it has to do w\ the server reaching capacity i think..cause if you save a pls from one of those sites you will see various links to the server.. anyway i havent had time to redo it or fix it up..
i installed it on my phone memory cuz i lost my memory card but i cant find the shoutcast directory on the phone memory
please help
Sam, I think there’s actually nothing you can do wit server reaching capacity (unless you have your own
) That’s why they have multiple links to actually one broadcast. If you see my playlist - I’ve included those as CH1…CH2…CH10 for each of the broadcasts. For di.fm it was not so complicated ’cause they give you all those links in one pls when you click on broadcast’s icon.
but then does the same channel lets say house appear on the application more than once??
Internet Radio application can be installed anywhere… It seeks for ’shoutcast’ folder on every drive…
Forgot to add: I would recommend to switch to Lonely Cat Games Jukebox… Superb MP3/Ogg/Shoutcast player and DI.FM channels are already in stations list…
Sam, yes, you’re absolutely right. If you ever listened for DI.fm channels on your computer using winmap, for example, you might have noticed that DI.fm provides you several different links when you open that channel’s .pls you got from DI.fm. That’s exactly what I’m talking about.
Dear, Beckett, how do u download the playlist?? sorry for being so dumb
I understand that via WiFi i can connect to web radio stations.
But can i use the E61 as a regular FM receiver?
Thanks for anyones response
Where can I get a selection of different Real Player .RAM files for various Radio stations? thx, Ron
I get the same doubt than Marten… is it possible to make a personal shoutcast playlist, with radios I enjoy?
