Can’t Get You Out Of My Head (Black Nokia E50)
OK. I admit. I am more obsessive than most but I still want my Black Nokia E50.
It’s been more than two months since I first laid eyes on the Black Nokia E50 but I still can’t get you out of my head.
Since I cannot possibly justify buying another Eseries at this point I found an alternative solution.
Handy-Designer, which we wrote about back here, in Germany is selling *original* Black Nokia E50 cover. Sure, it isn’t cheap at 24.99 Euro plus shipping but it beats buying a new Nokia E50 when I already have one.
And if you need a numeric keypad, well, they sell that too.

Ed, keep in mind that the top of your phone (power button area) will remain silver. I guess you can’t replace that part or can you?

For 25 Euro I got an originally black one at my service provider in Hungary, with 2 years ‘upgrade’ contract…
…but I think I’ll wait for the originally black E90 or N95 with that ‘upgrade’ option!!!

Have you ever seen GOLD Nokia E50 or gold cover? I don’t know where man can buy this one, but some guy had Nokia E50 in gold color. Side stripes from plastic was white and the metal parts are from aluminium and are gold (gold elox). On top of phone was logo “NOKIA” like on original one.
The cover looks like original (exact measure, aluminium, surface like original, logo NOKIA), but gold. I never saw this color in shops.

E50 Black Edition is Cool ! But it НЕПРАКТИЧНЫЙ color for metal parts of phone. I have a silver.

Jaro: First , the black face cover for the E50 has a black power button also, but there is a piece just below the keypad that doesn’t come with face cover. I’ll send you some pics to post so you can see what I’m talking about. I haven’t got the keypad in yet, so it’s still silver….
gurra777: The theme in the black E50 is the “pearl black” theme. I seen it somewhere for free, I think mobile9 has it…..

Guys, you really have to keep in mind that the light-ring around the joystick isnt available, so if you order a black keypad, the ring isnt there, they only sell the “keys”… And you have a black phone with a black keypad but a silver joystick ring!!!!
Believe me, I was searching the whole day for a trader who sells the black keypad AND the black ring around the joystick! BUT NO ONE!

Actually that theme in the top pic is the “Pearl Black Fire Edition” theme, not the plain Pearl Black theme.
It is a decent theme but a couple of weaknesses. One is that the numbers on the clock are too big beleiev it or not and not as readable as smaller ones.
The other weaness is that with a totally black backdrop some poorly wirttien Java programs (and there are many out there) cannot be seen because they have hard coded black text. Only a problem if you use those.
Otherwise its all right, but to be honest feels a big garish over time.
The Noka-made “Dark Stripes” theme is slightly better, more versataile IMO, and more subtle.

It looks cool in Black, i have silver, will check market here to see if black casing is available…
But my E50 doenst shows the shortcut bar? :S why?
do i need to update firmware?
