iSync and the Nokia E61
Last night I updated my Powerbook to Mac OS 10.4.7 and that broke my previously installed plugin that let me sync my Mac with the Nokia E61. This morning I was met with the following error message telling me that the plug-in for the Nokia E61 was missing.

Luckily there is already a fix available that worked fine for me. This time MUCH gratitude and appreciation goes out to Tom over at Mactomster who has created a new plugin that works great. This plug-in will let you sync your Mac using iSync with all E-Series devices. Once again, thanks Tom!

Update: Here is a rough translation of Mactomster's Readme file in German:
1. Quit iSync
2. Move the file “mactomster.phoneplugin”(orange) on to the alias “file drauf pull here!” (red)
3. Start iSync
4. Pair the phone with your Mac using Bluetooth.

I bought the newest version of the plug-in yesterday and it worked perfectly with my newly updated OS X 10.4.7 PowerBook.
While I was changing the butt-ugly icon back to the E61 tiff I have, I saw that they have changed where files go a bit.

Hi Alex,
Although it’s great that there is a free alternative I am starting to wonder whether I shouldn’t invest in the plugin as well (and some support).

Can you guys send SMS or call a number from the Address Book with the Nova Media plugin or with this Mactomster stuff? I hacked an N80 plugin, sync works but these options are disabled in the Address Book, because pairing with the phone from the Address Book seems to fail despite it says pairing was successful…

Can you keep us updated when a great OS X theme comes up for the E61. The current themes out there look promising:

Hi Sebhelyesfarku,
I am using the Mactomster plugin and I haven’t gotten SMS through the Address Book to work yet.

Hi Brett,
I am actually writing a short post about “pimping” your Nokia E61
I am using Roman Keller’s theme and like it a lot. I will keep my eyes open.
July 2nd, 2006 at 11:46 pm
I created a much more OSX-like iSync icon for the E61. I thought maybe you could post it on this blog, but couldn’t find an email address to send it to; send me an email if you are interested.
July 3rd, 2006 at 8:38 am
Hi Michael,
I’d gladly host your iSync icon. I just sent you an email.
July 9th, 2006 at 5:54 pm
i downloaded the plugin files but everything is in a language that i do not understand. Could you guys post an english guide to running the workflow.
July 9th, 2006 at 9:55 pm
Hi Patrick,
I cannot take credit for the plugin, Mactomster is the genious who created the plugin. The instructions are in German and here is a rough translation:
1. Quit iSync
2. Draw the file “mactomster.phoneplugin”(orange) on to the alias “file drauf pull here!” (red)
3. Start iSync
4. Pair the phone with your Mac using Bluetooth.
I hope that helps.
Cheers

thanks! worked like a charm! thanks again.
July 9th, 2006 at 10:25 pm
Glad it worked Patrick!

Does the iSync, sync everything? (Address Book, iCal, and Tasks).
I’m interested in purchasing this phone, and selling my Blackberry 8700g.
Thanks!
July 12th, 2006 at 7:31 am
Sync with iSync fine but doesn’t connect to address book. Anybody has the same problem? It says that its connected but then does nothing and doesn’t connect. Any body has any success on this?
July 12th, 2006 at 9:20 am
Hi Ethan,
It works fine for me. I use Mactomster plugin. Make sure you have the latest plugins. When all else fail, remove the plugin, pair the device again and give it a try.
July 13th, 2006 at 6:48 pm
I kept reading and found your translation and I think everything is a go! Thanks man - I’d be pulling my hair out right now if it was not for your site (if I had any hair that is:) )
July 14th, 2006 at 11:11 am
I am using the latest Mactomster plugin. I also did try removing the plugin and tried re-establishing the connection and still no go with connecting it with the address book. I did found it strange though that when i establish connection with my other phone a SE V800 , it has the “use with address book checkbox” but when i do it for the E61 that checkbox is not there. What is wrong here? Btw i’m referring to the wizard when you establish a bluetooth connection for the mac to a phone.
July 14th, 2006 at 3:40 pm
Hi Ethan,
Here is the procedure I followed that worked for me.
On OSX 10.4.7, I downloaded the and installed the first plugin at http://data.startrek.or.id/?p=164 and was correct to figure it wouldn’t work since this plugin was designed for 10.4.6.
Quit iSync
I then downloaded the plugin at http://www.mactomster.de/isync/isync.html but found it to be in a language I do not speak - for this plugin, there are 2 files. One is highlighted in Red the other is highlighted in Orange. I dragged the Orange file and dropped in on the Red file. Started iSync and the e61 logo appeared and I was able to sync. All this was after first pairing my phone to my Powerbook over bluetooth btw.
I hope you find this helpful.
Ed, you will have more and more of these questions as the phone becomes more popular. If you can, get a forum going! You’ll make this great service you have done for all of us, that much better! Either way, Thanks again Ed.
July 14th, 2006 at 9:16 pm
I did all that and i still cannot connect with my address book. I can sync with the address using isync but i can’t connect with the address book through the address book bluetooth button. Everytime i press that button it starts pairing and completed but doesn’t connect with my phone. When i establish connection on bluetooth i get this:
http://static.flickr.com/57/189819554_e7fa9ae6b9.jpg
If you noticed there’s no use with address book. I think this is the problem. But when i establish with my other phone i get this:
http://static.flickr.com/48/189819555_890bba2755.jpg
Any help would be appreciated.

I have just got an E61 and am eager to sync with my mac, the software is for PC only. What do I do, I am not an expert Mac user, is like an alien language, can any one make instructions simple for me? I’ve downloaded the plugin. Also does it sync emails- thats what i got the phone for to recieve my mac demon emails!
July 21st, 2006 at 10:14 am
Any joy?
July 22nd, 2006 at 5:42 am
Follow the instructions above. D/l the plug-in. Pull the orange to the red label. pair the devices using bluetooth, and iSync should detect the E61. Haven’t figured out the emails yet, sorry!

The new link does not work either, as of July 23, 2006. Any suggestion?
July 23rd, 2006 at 9:48 am
Here is the link for the previous version:
http://www.mactomster.de/_downloads/mactomster%20iSync%20Plugin.dmg
This works for Mac OS 10.4.6.
I know that Mactomster had some hosting related problems so I think he is still trying to recreate his website. An alternative would be to buy the plugin from Nova Media or to wait.
July 23rd, 2006 at 3:51 pm
Yes the plug in works!!! but i can’t get the address book to sync?
July 24th, 2006 at 1:38 pm

July 25th, 2006 at 7:42 am

Thank you all . I am a Mac user who has been struggling with the eternal question it seems for all Mac Users - WHY PHONE / PDA PHONE to buy ? And such bolgs are so very useful - so thanks to all of you. I wanted the Eseries but was again discouraged because the Isync site did not support any of the E series phones. But here is the question I think we should really be posting to Mac - WHY THE HECK DO MAC USERS HAVE TO WORK SO DARN HARD TO GET A PHONE TO WORK WITH THE MAC ?!?!?!?!?!? its totally absolutely and insanely PERPLEXING to say the least ?! What is with Apple - do they not want us to have any Mobile fun at all ?! please someone get an e-petition out and lets get it across to Steve’s table - DO SOMETHING To the ISYNC team at MAC Please . its getting very annoying. Sorry - venting a bit here - THANKS for the links and the info y’all !
July 28th, 2006 at 7:39 am
It’s not Apple’s fault. Most of their systems are based on standards already in use and for items such as iSync there is full documentation available. The problem is perception by others than there isn’t a Mac market worth considering. This is more of an image problem than truth. With 3-10% of the market for PC sales each quarter being Apple computers (depending on who you ask) there is a train of thought that this isn’t many users, however developers need to remember that Apple users change their computers less frequently than Windoze users and that still means a market of several million users. If Apple is guilty of anything it is not actively courting Nokia and others to provide Mac software but Nokia can easily get Mac versions of their software very easily made by outside companies if they don’t wish to do it themselves.
July 28th, 2006 at 8:38 am
Mark, your point is well made. However, I have to point out something within that same argument that makes me even more upset with Apple. As a business, it is Apple’s responsibility to its users, to “draw the crowds” and expand its influence. With an average of 5 - 7 % of the market, you have to try to draw in “windoze” (i like that one) users and third party vendors into your fold. Apple cannot just provide Isync and say “cheers boys ! I have documentation and am open standards so ….” - you got to go for the kill and say “So, c’mon down and make software for me - i will give you this benefit and that benefit and expose your users to y service and z service and give you p opportunity and q revenue from e activity …..” In short - they have to market their advantages and leverage their userbase to attract customers. With the amount of outsourcing going on today (I live in India) it is not impossible for companies like Nokia and O2 or whoever else, to have Isync plugins written - it would cost a small portion of what their overall spend on software dev work is. The illness is that Apple is not showing them the Value path to that investment.
I am a dedicated Apple user - Jobs is my hero like Virgin’s Branson - they are facinating geniuses - so no hate mongering here. My personal experiences are the root of my grumbles. I want a PDA plus Phone - aside from Treo 650 and Treo 700 p (not even this because unlocked ones are not available) what real “out of the box ” choice do I have ?.
Now I commend RIM very highly - they have spent their own resources and money and gone to PocketMAc and Paid them to write a FREE software for Isync for Macs. Thats terrific and I really think its a brilliant way forward - but how many RIMS are out there ? When you have Wm2005 PDAS falling out of the sky now a days - AND you (i.e. Apple) can write Bootcamp etc to run Win XP on a Mac dual core, then WHY can they write simple plug ins for Win 2005 Mobile devices or Symbian 9.1 as part and parcel of the Isync application itself ?
How much more power would the “Move to Mac” campaign have if Isync would sync with WM 2005 devices, Nokia 9500 , HP Ipaq smartphones etc etc etc .
My point is that it is APPLE who should take the initiative. Remember a few years ago where Microsoft was with its PDA initiative - the challenger who most thought would never make it - what did they do ? They Wooed the developers and vendors, the hardware makers and others - at that point they had less of the PDA market and mindshare than Apple’s current market share of computers. Today the picture is very different is it not ?
Apple should give the Isync team a simple mandate - get it to work with all the leading Smartphone and PDA-phone solutions out there - this would make our lives ad mac users so much easier.
Cheers
Nadir

To be more precise re: using the Mactomster plugin, I got it to work w/ Isynch 2.3 by doing the following:
1. Quit iSync
2. Draw the file “mactomster.phoneplugin”(orange) on to the alias “file drauf pull here!” (red)
3. Additional step - Add this new combined file to the PhonePlugin folder in the home library. Instructions for creating this folder are here http://data.startrek.or.id/?p=164
4. Start iSync
5. Pair the phone with your Mac using Bluetooth.
works perfectly.
August 3rd, 2006 at 9:45 am
Bought an E60 and have tried the work-around suggested above but two problems. The file seems to have been moved again so would appreciate if someone could email me (mgdance@mac.com) the version for 10.4.7. Second, will I have to change the tiff to E60 to sync with my phone (i have called it E60). Great phone if i can get it to work as my blackberry caqn’t sync all my addresses yet even with pocketmac.
Has anyone managed to get these devices to use VOIP yet - I dont have server but do have a LAN / router at home and run Skype (which, again, does not work with Nokia).
Any help appreciated.

This is a somewhat related question to syncing with address book and ical - I’m curious if there are any fields left out during either sync? For example, when you sync your E-series device and ical, to the “notes” part of the event transfer over? Does the “notes” section of address book entries transfer over?
I currently have a newer Blackberry and the sync program PocketMac works really well for iCal, Address Book, Tasks, and Stickies. I’m very interesting in getting an E61 and selling my Blackberry - I’m just wondering if the E61 will sync as well with my powerbook as my Blackberry does. I’ve had previous S60 devices (feature pack 2 through) and it seems that there were limits on what fields transferred between my mac and the S60 phone.
Thanks for any comments on this!

tritone900,
most stuff works pretty good. what doesnt work is the calendar-synchronisation. i have like 10 calendars and it synchronises them all but when you create an appointment you cant specify the calendar and you cant really show the different calendars either.
contacts, i havent missed a field so far (company, bday, phones, email, website is all in)
said that, you can expand the built-in PIM ALOT by using a third-party PIM (aquacalendar and papyrus come ot my mind).
said that, i dont want to miss my nokia e61 anymore
August 5th, 2006 at 9:48 am
tritone900,
sorry, i sent it too early. yes the notes section of the AB works too.

August 10th, 2006 at 11:29 am
hi all,
I just got a Nokia E70, great phone.
Having struggled, and googled, I’m very appreciative of the info advice offered by all those ppl out, so I’d like to return the favour by sharing what I know
This is a useful link:
For 10.4.7, I think there was a slight change in the directory for the MetaClasses.plist file, this is the real thing: (From above link)
/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/
Quit iSync, just edit the MetaClasses.plist file (making a backup first) and insert the snippet provided in the link above.
Restart iSync and it shld detect yr phone.
I seem to have no problems with Calendars (multiple, and iSync lets you can specify date ranges and which calendars to sync)
and Address book seems OK. The only problem is that the selection for downloading (from Mac to phone) of AddressBook is not fine grain enough, and and I get too many contacts which I don’t need on the phone. Could fine tune that by setting groups…
But it works… if only it can transfer files too…
August 10th, 2006 at 11:35 am
oops….
somehow the link I posted did not appear, here it is:

Ethan Hunt, did you find a solution to your problem I have exactly the same problem. I can’t connect with the Address Book through the Address Book bluetooth button. Everytime I press that button it starts pairing and completed but doesn’t connect with my E61. (note : iSync works fine)
Any help is welcomed,
Laurent
August 15th, 2006 at 7:20 am
“me too” — i bought an E70 (to replace a 6820 that drowned in my coffee cup, ooooops), purchased and installed the novamedia software (which i recommend, btw), but can’t SMS from the address book app.
mostly i love the E70. one of these days, i intend to look into its support for VoIP.
August 16th, 2006 at 9:22 am
iSync works like a charm with all Symbian based phones. The problem is with pairing the phone with the Address Book. (Pairing the phone used to allow on sending out sms from the Address Book, gettting caller id pop ups on the computer screen and making calls from the Address Book)
Apparently all that functionality was there prior to OS X 10.4.7 update. After that update something was changed and it doesn’t work anymore.
Upon clicking the Bluetooth icon in Addres Book the pairing icon by the clock flashes as if it was connected but connection is dropped in the same instance. Looks like E61 has the same issue as my N70.
I’ve placed a call with genuine Nokia store in Chicago and a friendly sales person declared to trace this issue for me. To make the matter even better this person also has friends in Apple store just down the street so hopefully we will get definite resolution.

thanks!

Ciao DD, Laurent, all
I have the same problem with my E60. Can’t pair my mac with E60 to send sms. But the iSynch works fine.
Since last message was sent a week ago, I have big hopes someone got this one sorted out
will keep trying

Thank you for a great plugin!
I’m having the same problem as many here seem to have, that is I can’t pair my mac with my E50 for SMS-sending. Has anyone got any experiences with the nova media plugin regarding sending SMS-messages? If it works with that it would be interesting to investigate what’s different in it (if it at all resembles Tom’s one).

Hi - hoping you can help me understand how to get the plug-in to sync my E61 with iSync. Not sure how to get the plug-in from Mactomster, and don’t understand how to install it. Can you give me a step by step? Really appreciate the help. Thanks!
August 28th, 2006 at 6:40 pm
Hi Guys,
I can’t get the Mactomster plugin’s to download… I think they have all been moved? Any ideas? Thanks!
August 29th, 2006 at 2:59 am
Hi, - I wonder if there is any proposed solution to the problem (common to both the Mactomster and the Novamedia plugins) that all-day events created on the Mac will not appear as memos on the Nokia but as 00:00-23:59 events; and viceversa, memos created on the Nokia will not appear as all-day events on the Mac but as 00:00-00:00 events. I can imagine a hack to fix the problem: a script on the ics file (or an applescript on iCal) that fixes things prior/after every sync. Anybody working on that?
August 30th, 2006 at 8:54 am
E61 Contact groups, personal ring tones, etc. disappearing:
Hello,
Here’s the problem:
1.Sync (with iSync) Address Book and E61. (OK)
2.Put a person (on the E61) in a group. (OK)
3.Change a phone number (or anything) of that person in Address Book (on the Mac). (OK)
4.Sync again - now every personalisation on the E61 for the person is lost - no group, no personal ring tone, etc…
Anyone else has this problem? A bug perhaps?

I’ve tried both the Nova and Mactomster plugins and both do the same job. The Nova appears to work for a lot more phones but for E-61 lovers the Mactomster plugin is great - and FREE! Save your Euros.
Neither allow for sms or dialing from Address Book which means we all have to wait for Apple to update iSync, which probably won’t happen until Leopard. Luckily the E61 has such a agreat keyboard.

If you’ve got one, please drop me an email at arkitetto@hotmail.com with the file attached!

WARNING: iSYNC LOSES IMPORTANT DATA
I am shocked. After having lost all the home phone numbers stored in my 500+ entries address book after an iSync with the Mactomster isync plugin, I did some systematic experiment with the 3rd party iSync plugins/hacks available (note that they are all based on the same idea: I tried Novamedia iSync Plugin and the free Mactomster plugin). Well, the experiment is easy. I create a new entry on the Mac Address Book, with all possible data; iSync; I modify some data on that entry on the Nokia Contacts; iSync again. All the original phone data labelled “Main”, “Other”, “Custom…” on that entry are gone forever! Similarly, if you create a new entry on the Nokia; iSync; modify some data on that entry on the Mac; iSync; modify some data on that entry on the Nokia; iSync. All the original data labelled “Telephone”, “Video Call”, “Internet Telephone” on that entry are gone forever! That’s probably why Apple is not offering an iSync for the Nokia E-series. Note that this is in addition to the already know bug that all-day events appear as normal meetings 00:00-23:59 after iSync. Thanks to http://blog.deconcept.com/2006/06/08/nokia-e70-and-isync-os-x for giving me the hint that something was wrong with these plugins…
Any idea about a fix?

I constantly get the message that syncronization failed each time I try to sync my e61 with my mac book pro. I followed all of the directions, but for some reason I get the error message “an unexpected error occured” when I try to sync. Is there something I am not doing correctly? I have my device and computer paired via bluetooth before attempting to sync and i still get the same error message. Is there another plug-in that I need, or addional steps that I need take on my phone?
Thanks for your help.

I finally got the plugin to work on my E70-2. I had to edit the info.plist file. Replace “E60″ with “E70″. In the metaclasses.plist file, replace “E70-1″ with “E70-2″ if you have the US version like I do.
Works fantastic now. The E70 is a GREAT phone.

Is there anyway for this to work with the new E62?

PLEASE!! HELP ME!! I CAN’T SYNC MY ISYNC 2.3 FROM MY MAC OS.10.4.7 TO MY NEW NOKIA E61!! I tried all you guys told me to do, but when I make the download of mactomster, the red file don’t alowds the copy from de red file because it’s a just read archive, because it’s a alias. WHAT COULD BE HAPPENING? I’m really desperate after hours of trying !!!! PLEASE!

I figured out the problem, you have to turn your handheld device off and then on again, and that should solve the error message that you get when you try to sync.
Thanks-

Yeah, it’s working! TANKS YOU SO MUCH ALL !

All,
I have my E61 synced with a 10.4.7 Macbook Pro, a 10.4.7 Intel iMac and 10.4.7 Powerbook and I have not downloaded anything. I simply navigated to:
iSync/Package Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist
and changed the Nokia N70 Reference to E61 wherever it occurred and it syncs perfectly. I did it as an experiment, as 10.4.7 supports the N70 out of the box, and its a Symbian S60 Device. Its not v3 and I was a bit surprised to find the experiment works, but it does.
October 4th, 2006 at 9:12 am
Victor can you run me thru the steps? I tried what was there, and it didnt work with my macbook pro 2.16 Ghz, 10.4.8
I changed all the N70 References to E62, I’m gonna change them to E61 (?!?) just in case… thanks
October 4th, 2006 at 9:35 am
Jeez.. somehow i got it to work with the E62.
I opened the MetaClasses.plist file in the text editor and changed all the references of N70 to E62. Then save the file (back up the old one first) Then delete the Paired connection, restart then RePair. After that re launch Isync and add new device.
October 5th, 2006 at 8:33 pm
Thanx “That Guy Named Tim” it totally works for the E62!!!!!!!!!

HELP!!!
I have OS 10.4.8 on my iBook G4 and used mactomster to sync my E61. It pairs alright but soon as i hit ’sync’ the app shuts down!!!
what do i dooooo??
October 8th, 2006 at 4:35 am
After reviewing and following the instruction on syncing Nokia E62 using iSync v2.3, I’m still having problem. I have downloaded both plugins, move the orange folder to the red folder. Even modified the e70 preference to e62, yet adding the device onto iSync it does not “support” nor “recognize” it. I had removed the paired connection and even reboot both the iBook G4 and Nokia E62, but no luck whatsoever. I’m using an iBook G4 (1.42Ghz/1GB-RAM/60GB-HDD/Superdrive/WiFi/Bluetooth) running MAC OS X v10.4.8. Please reply back with your suggestion either on this blog or e-mail me at jamalwill@mac.com. Thank you in advance.
October 10th, 2006 at 12:30 pm
Just used the instructions from Victor on my 17″G4 PowerBook running 10.4.8 and my new E62 synched up beautifully. Thanks for the posting, this saved me lots of time.
Jamal you should try changing all E61 referneces to E62 and try again, it worked for me.
October 11th, 2006 at 5:08 pm
Thanks so much. This enabled me to sync my E61 with my macbook!
October 12th, 2006 at 6:33 pm
The mactomaster plugin works fine *if* you change the plugun UUID — I guess it must have been copied from somewhere so that it conflicts with some other plugin in OSX 10.4.8. I usesd uuidgen to generate a new UUID for the plugin, edited the plugin info file and it Just Worked with my brand new E50.
October 13th, 2006 at 6:10 pm
Couple of things. Am using 10.4.8. None of the past links worked for the plug in so I found it here.
http://www.mactomster.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=26
(Generally, looking to mactomster.de will allow you to browse to his solutions when the links posted break)
My question is that my wife uses Entourage and not apple address book and iCal. Is there any hope for her getting this device syncing with her E61? Right now her Treo syncs with Entourage fine. grrr.
October 13th, 2006 at 6:19 pm
So I’m getting the E70-2 next week and I have a couple of questions about the solutions posted here:
1. Will Victor’s instructions work with the E70-2? If so will I need to change the instances to E70-2 or just to E70?
2. How well does the sync work? For example, will “categories” move over from ical. Are tasks and calendar supported in ical? Do notes that I have in my tasks, calendar appointements and contacts also sync over?
Thanks!

Hi,
I’m running 10.3.9 with iSync 1.5.
I can’t even get iSync to even SEE my E61.
I have turned Bluetooth on and is visible to all.
Any ideas???
Thanks,

Ok, so I installed Tiger and updated to 10.4.8. Downloaded the plugin, did the yellow file into red folder thing. Um, i didnt really understand how to get to the “package contents” directory — I’m no developer but willing to mess around, but most ppl didnt mention HOW you find this plist file, I guess I’m used to them being in prefs or something. Never heard of the right clicking on the app icon thing.
So instead I manually put the plugin into an isync folder in library>application support>
Then I edited the MetaClasses.plist file within the mactomster plugin folder, replacing e70 with e61. I relaunched isync and my e61 synced right up with ical, the device’s icon appeared, and both calendar and contacts, and the contacts seemed fine at least at first glance.
Later when i discovered the way you’re actually supposed to do it, I looked in the “correct” isync apps folder and the MetaClasses.plist file in there didn’t even appear to have been affected, and it had no mention of e61.
So, I’m not sure iSync is even using the plugin OR the hack.
Should I just leave it as is and not mess around with it, or should I go into the plist file in the ‘correct’ place and replace it with the entire string of code? Again I’m on OS 10.4.8 which is later than most people have used in these instructions it seems? Original firmware on e61. Thanks for any insight on this.
Also, does anyone know how to backup or sync the “notes” (not the to do notes in the caledar, but the actual notepad app notes) from the e61 to the mac? On my work pc they would be part of the Outlook sync with PC Suite.
thanks!!

Big kudos to the developer!!
I have owned my E61 for months and been desparately looking for a software that could sync my phone with Macbook Pro… now I GOT IT!!!
Thanks for the good work!

I have iSync working with my e61 using the edits to the plist file to make the e61 pair. However, I have been unable to get the calendar to sync correctly. Everytime I make an appointment in the e61, it comes up about 3 hours later in iCal. So if I make an 8am appointment, it actually shows up at 11am. The time zones are correct too. Does anyone have any suggestions?
October 24th, 2006 at 12:00 pm
‘Houston, we have no problems!’
Went with the .plist surgery route, and all was perfect. Calendar is runnin well, with no 3hr time shift as described by someone. Running an E62 with 10.4.8. This was pretty painless.
Many thanks.
Quickly, is anyone here running more than 1 E-series on the same Mac? If so, are you creating duplicate code in this .plist??

For those who have been looking for a way to sync with Entourage, if you have Office 2004, you should be able to set Entourage Sync Services to sync using iSync. Here is a link describing this:

I must be going blind… Just downloaded mactomster plugin 2.6 and read all the detailed instructions shown here for how to install it. I see no “orange” or “red” folders anywhere. After unzipping the archive, I get two folders: __MACOSX and mactomster_iSync-Plugin_2.6
I am basically trying to sync my E61 to a new MacBook Pro running MacOS X 10.4.8
Please help the helpless
Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem as “Jenf” where the calendar would display +/- 3 hours or more than what I had input into iCal to sync up with iSync. I believe that problem was caused by the mactomster.phoneplugin
I removed the plugin from the iSync package area on where it tells you to install it (but saved the information - i.e. E61 TIFF File).
and decided to modify the existing MetaClases.plist located in: /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources
I used the N70 Profile (as stated above by another poster) and changed everything that says N70 to E62. I then copied the E61 Image into the same directory and named it NOKE62.tiff (so I know what it is, not necessary though). Saved the file, removed iSync device profile of my E62 and added a new device. iSync found my E62 and when I ran iSync again the iCal events that synchronized over was correct now
Thought I’d share since I was racking my brain over this “problem”

Instaling the plugin is quite easy. I just needed to quickly move all my contacts from the Address Book into the E61. It did the job BUT it only moved the “cards” but not groups - in the phone the cards are not grouped into groups like in the AB. does anyone know a solution to this?

I’m new to my E61 (got it yesterday) and this blog has been really useful. As a mac user, I’ve been particularly interested in this thread - I went the metaclasses.plist route after trying to mactomester plugin with no result. Updating the metaclasses.plist seemed to work okay, but I notice that I’m missing event notes. Has anyone else come across this? I’m a bit dubious about syncing my phone again until I figure something out here - don’t want to lose data on my mac. I’m working with a Powerbook G4 running 10.4.8 and Isync 2.3.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts/responses…
December 11th, 2006 at 6:42 am
Working my Ibook G4 and Entourage and E61 without any problems. Sync worked perfectly. Use Calender, Contacts and Tasks. ISync combined with plugin worked fine to. Last week, suddenly, the calendar of Entourage sort of stopped to synchronize correctly. Items in my Entourage don’t show up anymore on my e61. Tried new sync and tried tot re-install everything. Anyone with same problem? Contacts and Tasks do work.. A puzzled person..
December 13th, 2006 at 5:46 pm
I can happily synchronise with iSync between addressbook and my Nokia E61 phone.
However if I try to connect to the phone from within Addressbook to enable functions like sms etc it prompts me to pair. Pairing seems to go ok and displays no errors, however it does not work - the functionality does not get enabled.
What is strange is that iSync works fine with no intervention, the phone is already paired and there is no problem.
December 14th, 2006 at 2:07 am
I know reset and paired the phone from scratch and Entourage now Syncs with both adressbook and iCal. Haven’t got a clue what happens know but E61 works again with both.

Hi
I’m using OS 10.4.8 with a MacBook and am having a bit of trouble syncing it too.
How do I “Navigate” to “Sync/Package Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist”? to make the necessary changes?
I initially tried the Mactomster route (rather than scrolling down and reading the most recent posts, duh!)
Should I now delete the “mactomster_iSync-Plugin_2.1″ folder, which is still on my desktop where it downloaded? Or move it?
Thank you ver much to anyone who can help me with this!

Well, here’s a new one. I just upgraded my E61 firmware to the new 3. version. When I tried to restore my data (first from PC Suite on my Windows machine, then from my SD card, and finally through iSync on my Mac running OS10.4.8), all my contacts restore fine, but the only events in iCal that retore are the recurring ones. None of my memos or non-recurring meetings are moved to my E61. So I have a fully functional phone without a calendar. Any suggestions?
December 27th, 2006 at 6:52 pm
Moderator… please delete my previous entry… stupid error on my part (when I reset the date after updating the firmware, I entered 2007 by mistake). Thanks.

Cannot get anything to work. Have Cingular E62, downloaded mactomster, dragged “orange” to “red”, changed metaclasses.plist from E50 to E62 throughout. Can get it to sync, but then it displays the “Synchronization for (Alyson) cancelled.”
Been trying for a couple days now, any ideas?

HI,
I just got an e70 and have tried several things to use isync, none of which worked :
I tied editing the MetaClasses.plist file, and restarting isync, my phone and my computer (running os 10.4.8, isync version 2.3).
I tried downloading mactomster_iSync-Plugin_2.6 and moved the appropriate folder, and again nothing.
After all of this, it always says “this devide is not supported by iSync.”
Perhaps one of my problems is that while I’m definitely not using the US version, I’m not sure which version it is. Right now I have the file set with the e70-2. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did anyone tried the addressbook plugin from novamedia?
They seem to have a plugin which can send sms and dail numbers from the addressbook. Even incoming calls are reported.

Anyone tried it with an e60?

Oke, i just bought the plugin from novamedia.
Now i can send sms, dail numers, log and answer incomming calls from the addressbook.

Greatwork from novamedia!

E61 sync to macs mail program. Is there any solution for syncronising the E61’s mail package with a Mac using the Mail program supplied by Apple? Does it require 3rd party software? or do I need to resort to Entourage? Hopefully not.
January 31st, 2007 at 9:24 pm
I modified the MetaClases.plist file and my E62 syncs fine except for one thing. If I create a meeting on the phone, it transfers to the Mac 8 hours off. Meetings created on the computer transfer to the phone just fine, ToDos transfer fine both ways, it’s only meetings going from the phone to the mac. Anyone else have this problem?

GOOD NEWS regarding the Address Book functionality (Send SMS, Incoming call notification…):
http://www.novamedia.de/e_pages/e_produkte_mac_ab_plugin.html
That makes me VERY happy, since I was willing to give up un buying a Nokia E50 and getting the 6233 instead. But this changes the fact…
Btw. could someone verify if all this works for real?

March 11th, 2007 at 5:59 am
Actually, the calendar offset problems that some of you are experiencing are likely the result of using the N70 or other similar sync profile and hacking it for the E61/E62. The N70 was a Series 60 v2 phone (Symbian 8.1), and from what I can tell lacked proper time zone support in it’s calendar. The result is that the timezone information is not properly passed to iSync for appointments that are created on the phone itself, and these will therefore show up in GMT (since the phone actually stores them in GMT and supplies a tz offset).
I can’t comment on the Mactomster plug-ins, as I haven’t tried them, but the Novamedia ones work flawlessly for me both for iSync and Address Book as they are specifically designed to address the S60v3 device features such as proper timezone support.
March 13th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
For what it’s worth, iSync 2.4 in the latest OS X 10.4.9 update now natively supports the E61 and E62 without the need for extra plug-ins. In fact, after the update, iSync complained about my Nova Media plug-ins and refused to start, and I was initially somewhat worried that I would lose iSync compatibility with the update.
Once I uninstalled the plug-ins and started iSync, however, I was pleased to discover my E62 device entry showing up with the proper icon, and worked just fine without the plug-ins.
March 14th, 2007 at 4:01 am
with the newest mac os x update 10.4.9 isyncing the e-61 is included.
my old tomster plugin was thrown out, isync works like a breeze so far.

March 15th, 2007 at 8:53 am
…hi all,
after updating I have had to ditch the Mactomster-plugin for the now provided Apple one, and while the first syncs where more or less painless (duplicates and errors that where actually both untrue), I soon after experienced a real havoc:
my calendars were a real mess, not even displaying properly anymore(!).
Repairing permissions, before and/ or after replacing the database with my backup have not helped, since I had the same mess.
Now, I will try deleting all preferences (iCal and iSync), repair permissions again, and hope this should work.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Cheers
March 15th, 2007 at 9:21 am
Rune, you’ve tried using both the mactomster-plugin and the novamedia one with the e50 ? I’m planning to buy it and wanted to know if i can sync it with my mac.
March 16th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
I just purchased a nokia e62 which is a blackberry mail client and was advised the phone isn’t compatible with mac computers. Absolutely inaccurate! I am able to sync the calendars and contact on 4 devices using a combimation of different softeware.
Using PocketMac’s SyncManager I sync calendar events, contacts and notes from MS Entourage on my mac Mini (OSX 10.4.9) and the calendar, notes and contact programs on my RIM Blackberry 8700.
Using sync services in Entourage I synch with Apple’s mail and calendar programs on the same Mac. I then use iSync to synchronize with my idisk/.mac account.
iSync also synchronizes with my laptop and the Nokia
March 19th, 2007 at 4:54 pm
Answer for Zod (if he ever comes here): I had a similar problem unstuffing the amazingly useful plugins over at , currently under active development for iSync 2.3 (under 10.4.8) and 2.4 (under 10.4.9). Turned out I was using an out-of-date version of Stuffit Expander.
If you’re seeing a folder entitled __MACOSX it’s time to upgrade. (It’s free.)
Consider these plugins if your Nokia phone isn’t yet supported under OS X. They are free, and have allowed me to use iSync with a Nokia E70-2.
March 19th, 2007 at 4:55 pm
Sorry, Zob; I misspelled your handle in the above post. (Kneel before Zod.)
March 20th, 2007 at 9:02 am
Well, to be more accurate they don’t officially support the Mac platform, and if you want to actually setup Blackberry Connect on the E62 to work with a BES, you have to use a Windows machine (or VirtualPC/Parallels on your Mac) to do this, as there is no wireless over-the-air activation on the Blackberry Connect solution on the E62.
However, other than that and the Nokia Updater (to update the firmware should it ever become necessary), I can do everything else on the Mac itself, and am using a similar combination of Entourage 2004 and iSync to get everything over.
Further, if you are either connected to an Exchange server through a Blackberry Connect BES, or are using Mail for Exchange, you can also get the calendar information directly from an Exchange server. MFE also does contacts in addition to calendar entries.
Obviously this has the advantage of being a transparent wireless sync of the information in Entourage via a back-end Exchange server (in the same way that a Blackberry works). The downside is that you don’t get tasks in the Calendar or photos in the Contacts, which iSync will provide.

I just bought a Nokia E50 and I can’t get it to work with isync by using either the Novamedia plugin or the Mactomster plugin. It worked one time with the Novamedia plugin but now it will get halfway through the sync process and either my computer tells me that “an unexpected error occured” or my phone says “system error.” ANYONE PLEASE HELP!!! I’ve spent $35 on plugins and I can’t get this stupid phone to work. I’m pretty sure it is the phone because I’m not having any other problems with the computer syncing to other devices.
