I’m using Cingular and have an e62 and I downloaded this and it installed, but when I went to run it, the screen just flickered like it was switching apps and then it went back to the apps folder. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and got the same thing. Has this happened to anyone else? I’d really like to try this out! Thanks and keep up the great blog!

Hi Eric,
I tried installing it on two different E61. I installed fine while the other device gave me an error. So far I haven’t been able to really test out the “local content” search feature..
I’ll try it on my E62.

I am using an E61 on T-Mo USA. The UK version works. The US version exhibits the same behavior that Eric sees.

Same thing. I tried to install it on phone memory as well as memory card. It installs fine, however when I try to launch the application it just flickers.

I just installed it on my E62 and it works. However, so far I haven’t been able to use the new local content search feature.

Same story here: E61, T-Mo USA, US version just flickers and nothing loads up. Haven’t tried UK version yet.

Nona Maas is right. The UK version works just fine!

Just installed on my E62 (Digitel Venezuela) works fine!

I’ve downloaded the application and can see how you perform web searches, but how do you “search for content stored on your device, such as email, text messages, calender entries, music and video files?”

I think you don’t have to open the search application once istalled. It’s a plug-in. It adds an additional functionality (find) to “Options” on some programs like mail, text messages, all files, pictures, etc.

Sorry to say, unless I’m missing something, when they say “local content” they mean like your local yellow pages. Here’s a link with local content providers from the same site:
http://mobilesearch.nokia.com/A4160081
I used Eniro here in Sweden, but there’s still bugs in that part of the software due to the local content provider.
If I’m missing something, please let me know how you got it to search through the data on the actual local device. I’d love that to be a function.

I stand corrected, I was using the “Find” function built in on my E70– Mobile Search (US) installed well but will NOT launch, however Mobile Search (UK) installed well & launched well.

This doesn’t work even with the UK Version, Local search does not appear to find the yellowpage website, in fact it’s not even listed as a search provider in the Options.

I installed the Dutch version on my Nokia E61: V2.21 Pack 3. You cannot search for content stored on the device. Perhaps it takes a while for MobileSearch to ask if you’d like to update. The previous version of MobileSearch took a while (read: after using it several times) to ask if I wanted to install “Local Search”. Perhaps this is a similar issue?

The new version of the Nokia Mobile Search with My Content search (searching for content stored in your device) was not available when the press release hit the wire. Open up Search, go to Options -> About to check the version of your current Search application. If you don’t have Search v3.2, go to the site http://www.nokia.com/mobilesearch, download and install the latest. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I noticed that you cannot perform a “my content” search without an internet connection.
When you launch the app, it’ll ask if you’d like to establish an internet connection. If you choose “Do not allow”, and you try a “my content” search later, you can’t do it.
Which seems very odd. I don’t necessarily need an internet connection everytime I search for something in my phone. Its fine if I’m using this sitting at home. Its fine if I’m using this sitting on a bus (since GPRS is based on data transmitted). But it won’t be fine if I’m travelling and using an auto-roaming service, since every connection will cost money.
I think this is a minor tweak Nokia needs to adjust. The other is: ask for permission to connect to the internet _WHEN_ i need the connection e.g. when I’m going to do a search on Yahoo!, but not necessarily in the beginning.

I had my E70 set offline, I launched the Nokia Mobile Search program’s My Content & it works w/o internet connection… other option is this older standalone My Content search:
