BlackBerry on the Nokia E61
My major reason for getting the Nokia E61 was to use it with corporate email. Since the device supports so many different "corporate" email applications, Visto, Seven, Good, BlackBerry, Mail For Exchange (Microsoft ActiveSync) etc. it seemed like the ultimate email device.
But as I started using it I discovered more and more ways of using the device outside the realm of corporate email. So far I have written about anything *but* email.
However, it is time to focus on corporate email and share some screenshots of one corporate email client - BlackBerry Connect on Nokia E61. This posting is not a review of BlackBerry Connect on Nokia E61 nor a set-up guide. Look at it as a 30,000 feet overview with some screenshots.
The set up can vary from company to company but normally includes getting the BlackBerry software which is installed on the device and a BlackBerry Connect Desktop application that is installed on your PC. Don't forget that you also need to have PC Suite installed.
For me the whole set-up, from when I started installing the BlackBerry on the Nokia E61 until I was completely up and running took less than 15 minutes. That includes the time I spent reading the instructions. Needless to say it was a smooth, flawless transaction. However, do make sure that your SIM card is enabled for BlackBerry with your carrier.
The preferences were also easy to set up with options for scheduling of email delivery, automatic retrieval of parts or the whole message etc.
After the installation was complete I turned on my device and I could immediately see my email trickle in.
I am not sure how it all works but that for me is the beauty of BlackBerry on Nokia E61 - it just worked. I don't want to know the details. I just want to get my email so I can work and not spend energy and time on the logistics of corporate email.
To be continued - Mail for Exchange (Microsoft ActiveSync) on the Nokia E61

how about its battery performance when using blackberry. i understand that when we are using blackberry connect, it means that the device should always be connected to the network. and it should drain the battery faster….
July 12th, 2006 at 4:51 am
I’ve been using BlackBerry Connect continuously for over two weeks, plus having Bluetooth permanently enabled and Wifi connected to my local network. Battery lasts at least 2 full days. (I don’t use it for voice very much though.)

Hey! Great preview to getting Blackberry email on the E61. I am curious to what you think about DataViz’s RoadSync product and how it compares to the built-in “Mail for Exchange” app in your opinion. Keep up the good work!

I heard that Blackberry for Symbian didnt support the “internet version”. You know off any truth in that?

The built-in messaging app will do push IMAP mail with servers that support the IMAP IDLE extension, which most do.

I can’t seem to get IMAP to work without opening and closing the connection manually each time… I emailed Nokia, but have yet to hear back.

Hey. Not sure if people have seen this site.

It’s got the user manual. BlackBerry Connect works with both the Enterprise Server and the Internet Edition.

Unfortunately my BB Connect experience was not as smooth as yours. http://www.mineblogging.com/blog/2006/06/the_blackberry_.html
July 12th, 2006 at 6:46 pm
Hi Alex,
I am sorry to hear that Cingular wasn’t as helpful (no big surprise here). I have heard that the special plan is only for BlackBerry hardware and not applicable for BlackBerry connect users. Not sure if that is true but that could explain the lack of support from Cingular.
July 13th, 2006 at 6:20 pm
Perhaps but Cingular is only part of the reason I gave up. The other reason is the fact that I have to turn off BB Connect before able to access web via GPRS. And turning off BB Connect is not a trivial process (i.e. a few clicks and a power cycle).
Hopefully when E62 arrives Nokia/RIM will have updated BB Connect to fix this issue.
July 13th, 2006 at 8:17 pm
Hi Alex,
You don’t have to disconnect in order to access the web. My friend showed me a fix for that. I don’t have BB connect installed (I’m on ActiveSync now) but let me check it out tomorrow and get back to you.
Cheers

I second what the admin says, the guys over at howard forums stated that you can (with some setting changes) web browse while connected to BB connect. All hope is not lost!!!!! with that said i’m going to order mine right now.

I got BB connect to work and was able to browse the internet at the same time without any problem. The settings were all there for me when i signed up with cingular. I did have a problem that when I click on the globe on the top menu, it would not go to the cingular MediaNet home page it would get a “No gateway found” but when I did the shortcut by pressing 0 down it when fine, weird, so all i did was change my homepage to yahoo.com and that fixed it. Unfortunely I got a phone that had arabic lettering on the keyboard and had to exchange it with one with US letters, cause it was confusing. I am suppose to get the new one tommorrow and hopefully I don’t have any problems that most are mentioning.
I do have one question for you guys. How can I keep the phone on vibrate for the calls but when i get a BB email there is no sound or vibration. I selected the SILENT profile and made the EMAIL sound off, but everytime I get a BB email it vibrates, if i turn vibrate off, then when someone calls me it doesnt vibrate, anyone know how to fix it?
Admin, this is a great site, It would be great if you can add a forum.

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the comment and feedback. I’m investigating starting a forum but there are already other forums available.
Anyways, I have looked into your question but came up blank. I don’t know of a fix/solution at this time. Sorry.

Great site. I just got my E61 and got BB Connect working. One question, how do I get my emails subjects to show up on the main (today) screen? I can only see my email after I go into my messages. I’m new to Symbian so I’m completely lost.
thanks!

Thanks for the review and I wondered if you had any problems viewing attachments or displaying HTML messages? I am having a real nightmare here and my provider Vodafone and Nokia are both disowning the problem.

Is anyone having luck using IMAP with IDLE? It works temporarily and then stops and I have to manually sync the emails. I have BB connect, but I have found that it is not good at all for downloading attachments. With IMAP, I can only download headers, not the body…but once it’s downloaded, I can access the attachments. Is there anyway for IMAP to download the body as well?
Also the built in email program is horrible for rendering html emails.
Such simple things are making my transition to the E61 a little bumpy.

Hi, I’m looking for an end-to-end procedure to get my E61 working with our BES for Lotus Domino.
I got the device this week and have installed PC-Suite (can sync via Bluetooth or USB cable).
Then I installed the “Blackberry Connect Desktop for Nokia” sofware.
The user guide says that when I launch this I should get the option to create a new encryption key. However, this is not the case, instead I am prompted with a dialogue box asking for my Lotus Notes log on information and BES server.
When I enter this data and click OK I get an error back as follows: “The Blackberry Server is either unavailable or has been specified incorrectly. Your Notes account may also not be configured on the Blackberry Server”
I have an account set up in the Blackberry Manager but it is at the “Initializing” stage because I’ve not got connected yet. As a consequence there is no information for me in BES\BlackBerryProfiles.nsf.
Does anyone know how I can fix this - tempted to send the device back to O2 and get an 8700g and that makes me

Hi. I recently purchased the e61 and using it with Cingular. I have the blaclberry option enabled, and the software installed. IT people from company said they can’t install blackberry on my phone because it’s asking them to input information they never have to do with other blackberry devices. They run a BES. They said with all other phones, all they have to do is add teh user on their server and the phone picks up the sync, but mine is too complicated. Did anyone else have a similar issue? Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.
July 28th, 2006 at 12:04 pm
Sounds like the IT people made a mistake to me. You can just pick up E61 and go with it, nothing else needed other than a BES version 3.5 or newer. Install the Blackberry software on your desktop. Move the BB software to your E61 and install. (Then turn on once installed) I’ve switched between my 8700c and E61 many times. Each time is recognizes that there is a new PIN associated with my device and makes me wiggle the mouse until I’ve established a new unique security ID for the phone. So I think your IT department is bluffing you!
July 28th, 2006 at 9:29 pm
Thanks Cyberdog for your answer. I do have the bb software installed on my phone. So according to you all IT has to do is to add me as a BB user on their server settings and then BB will start working on my E61? Does it matter which internet access option I choose? Right now, it’s connecting to the web using Cingular internet, should I switch it to BB?
Thanks a lot for helping me out.
July 29th, 2006 at 12:37 am
Blackberry doesn’t work over the standard internet plans Cingular has. You need a Blackberry plan from Cingular. It’s a bummer but hey, I guess that’s why RIM is worth so much as a company. For you to access your mail via Blackberry, every month Cingular pays RIM a bunch of money! Cingular passes this charge on to you (and then some) for the BB service.

I have had an E-61 and had a lot of problems using BB working with a BES Lotus server. My problem is that I do not get incoming email. I can send the email out fine and also can use the corporate directory but no incoming emails. I have reloaded the BB connect software several time on the machine but still no incoming email. please HELP!!!

Guys, I am really sorry about posting again on this topis but I just can’t get Blackberry to work. Here is what I’ve done so far:
- Uploaded the blackberry software from the nokia website onto my e61
- purchased the pda unlimited package from Cingular
- had my company add me as blackberry user on their BES server.
I see the blackberry line on my first screen, but I get “no email messages” when I click on it. What else do I nee dto to get Blackberry working on my e61?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you install and run the Blackberry connect software on your desktop PC?
July 31st, 2006 at 12:26 pm
I am ashamed to say I di dnot have that installed. I now installed and linked it to my work inbox. It uploaded my calendar, but still no emails…
Thanks for your help.

If you haven’t already, you should download the install guide at:
http://www.businesssoftware.nokia.com/blackberry_downloads.php
I followed the instructions and it worked for me. Make sure you have Blackberry turned on (on the E61) and have registered it with the Blackberry Connect Desktop Application.

Hi
I love this site! I already installed BB software on my E61 and got email to work. Now I am having problem opening the attachments. I can’t open .jpg file and .mp3 file that comes with the email.
And sometimes I got long messages and it says at the bottom “-Message has more- 4KB” and I don’t see any option in my option menu to get the rest of the message. I checked and found that I already set “Auto More” in the general setting tap to ON.
If anyone knows how to fix this problem, please let me know. I appreciate it a lot.
Thank you.

Okay, this may be real easy, but I think I’m missing something.
So, I have an E61 with the following software version 1.0610.04.04
but the Blackberry site ( http://www.businesssoftware.nokia.com/blackberry_downloads.php )
says I need to have version 2.618.06.05.
Does anyone know if I need that version number, and if so how do I go about getting it?
I’m having some strange issue on my E61 where the blackberry setting in the Email setting is not showing up.
Thanks
Dave.

Todd,
BB is still available if you look for other regions than the US. However, that version is for the next firmware of the Nokia E61 and not compatible with the previous (current) version many of us have.
I don’t have the file anymore…
August 8th, 2006 at 11:31 am
All,
does anybody know, where to access firmware 2.618.06.05?
I am in the US, having 1.0610.04.04 installed and might need the latest FW for the new BB client.
Is the FW update Nokia allows to be done by myself or does it need to be brought into a Nokia shop?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Got BB Connect running smoothly but the calendar sync does not do Tasks. Unfortunately PC Suite does do Tasks but only when you sync calendar entries. If you do sync calendar entries via PC Suite I get duplicate entries and there seems to be no way to turn off BB calendar syncronisation. So the question is: is it possible to synchronise Tasks to my E61 without buggering up email and calendar synchronisation?
August 15th, 2006 at 7:06 am
The issue with BB Connect appears on my Nokia as well. But only since I “upgraded” from 6.18 to version PR2 6.28.
It appears to me that PR2 might mean pre release. Its the only one that works with the older firmware.
Does anyone have similar experience?
Do I need to go back to 6.18?
Thanks

I just purchased a Nokia E61 and can’t get it to work with the Blackberry Connect Desktop. I want to make it work for my personal email and not Microsoft Exchange for now. Nokia US or T-Mobile didn’t give me any support. Can anyone help me?
August 24th, 2006 at 8:10 am
Hi Claudia, The Blackberry connect desktop is to configure your device for corp email access (MS Exchange for you). You need to use the Blackberry Internet Service for setting up your personal email accounts to get pushed to the E61.
For cingular, you need to login to:
https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=mycingular
I googled for T-Mobile, the link is:

Setting up Blackberry Internet Service for Nokia e61 by Billy Bhakta
Step1:Type the following on your phone without quotes “*#0000#” you will find out which version your phone is. Should be one of the following and write it down.
2.618.06.05 or 1.610.04.04
Step2:Go to Nokia’s website and download the Blackberry Connect software. You will have to select region as Europe, Carrier as Other (don’t select t-mobile), and phone model Nokia E61. Click the show button and you will find three links. Based on version number choose the top link or the middle link. Make sure your usb cable is hooked up to your phone and pc suite is connected. Then download the file and double click to open it. It should automatically install itself. Once it says install successful then you can disconnect the usb link. Next go to Menu the messages icon. Then click on options and settings and then email then change default to black berry and email to black berry and click on those settings and make sure black berry setting are “on” for everything. Then go back and click on email and your can select your email and using joystick and move to right and you will find your pin# and imei# and all other info. Write this down as it is necessary for next steps.
Step3:Go to my t-mobile website, if you haven’t not logged in then set this up. It is mandatory.
Once you login to My tmobile website click on Communication tools tab in pink color. Next click on “Learn about Tmobile Web” which is in pink writing. Then you will already be on a white tab called communications. Re click on the white communications tab and you will see a new menu which has a link for Blackberry. Click on Blackberry. Then click on the link Setup Blackberry Internet Email. If you cant follow the above then follow this link : https://my.t-mobile.com/PartnerServices.aspx?service=BByIntEmail
Now you will see your logged in to make changes for blackberry. First click on change handheld link to the left. Then it will have your pin there already which should remain the same. You will have to enter in your new imei number which you got from the steps above. Once your done with that stuff you will need to click on the link to the left which says service books. Then click on send and it will send out new service books.
Finally walla you should get a txt message saying activation successful bla bla bla and send an email and its all there.
If this helps throw me a line at daplayer7@aol.com
Or if you have questions send email there as well.
Billy

I am a new Nokia E61 user and I am having problems setting up the Blackberry portion of my handset. I have installed the client and turned on the service. I still have to check with my provider to ask if my phone is Blackberry activated. The way the Blackberry service works, is way over my head but where do I add an account for the Blackberry client to administer. Once you (me, the user) have gone through the blackberry settings, what else is there to configure? Please Admin, can you help?

another product that’s already available for E series is the Always-On Mail by SEVEN… go to https://www.alwaysonmail.com
You can try either the Internet Edition (connects to pop / imap accounts) or the Professional (connects to Exchange / Domino)..
I’ve been using the IE on my 9300 for Gmail and loved it. Its working nicely also on the E61.
BTW to my knowledge BB doesn’t support attachment downloads etc. SEVEN does.

I’m finaly taking the plunge on this phone (i think), but before I order it I just have a few quick questions.
Informative site BTW….
1) I use the 29.99 BIS plan with Cingular, should I have any problems using it with this phone? I assume I just follow the same instructions that Billy posted above for t-mobile…but just use the Cingular BIS website.
2) I forward my work emails to my “mycingular.blackberry.net” address, I assume this will work the same on the E61 w/ blackberry connect. Am I correct?
3) is there a version of this phone I should avoid? or will any version work with the BB Connect.
Thanks.

PLEASE HELP! I noticed on the screen snapshots that Blackberry emails can sit on the Standby screen, I rang my carrier and they had no idea how to do this… Any ideas?
September 1st, 2006 at 1:56 pm
I am unable to install BB to my e61. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!
I got the BB connect from Nokia’s web site (checked I was using the correct version for my firmware). Then I install it on the phone and it says “Installaiton Complete”.
Then, I cannot find Blackberry on the list under “Messaging” with my other email accounts set up, but I can find it in the “Installed” folder. If I click on its icon nothing happens. When I highlight its icon and press “Options” it says: “Attachment Data Deleted”.
Anyone has any ideas on what I might do to overcome this?
September 7th, 2006 at 3:05 am
Tom - to get the active standby view of the BlackBerry mailbox you need to do two things:
1. Ensure that active standby is enabled in the general settings (this may already be done by default). This is under Menu->Settings->Phone->Standby mode.
2. Open the Messaging app to the mailbox view (the one that shows New Message, Inbox, My Folders, BlackBerry, etc. as options) and select Options->Settings from the left softkey menu. Then scroll down to the bottom of the list and select ‘Other’. In here there is a setting called ‘Active standby mode’ that allows you to pick the Active standby mailbox to display on the home screen - you can choose from None, Inbox, or BlackBerry (or from any other mailboxes you have set up).
Hope this helps!

PLease, anyone, I would REALLY appreciate it very much if anyone would comment on the question about the iniability to install BB connect on my e61. I downloaded the sis file from nokia’s site, checked that software version match my phone, but when I run through the installation process two things happen:
1. BB is not listed under messaging services
2. in the Installed folder, when I click on the RIM icon nothing happens and if I click on Options when RIM is highlighted I get the message saying “Attachment Data Deleted”.
When I check the Applications Manager it shows that BlackBerry is Installed?!
Any comments or hints would be great,
thanks

September 22nd, 2006 at 4:51 am
I did have this working before installing that damn Nokia Software Updater, it doesn’t work. Since trying to reinstall, I’ve had no luck. I’ve reset the factory defaults and am trying to reinstalled BB from there. I checked that I still have the service set up through my Mobile Service provider (Telenor).
The Blackberry install for the e61 basically goes like this:
1) Start by copying the install “Blackberry Connect” to the memory card FIRST (I’m have 2.618.06.05) - and running the install from there. (I faintly remember needing to do that back when it DID work).
2) After installing, I go to Messaging > Options > Settings > E-mail, and set Default Mailbox to BB and the Blackberry settings to “ON”. I restart the phone.
After restart, I DO see the BB icon showing that I’m connected, and 3G is on. But I don’t even see a Mailbox on my start screen! I go to create a new message, and it says “No mailbox defined” and asks me to set up a mailbox with either POP or IMAP! Do I need to do something with the email setup wizard or something? What the…?
Telenor has recently ‘updated’ their BB service, so I’m not sure if that’s the problem either. Does anybody have an idea what could be wrong??? What step am I missing?
Help us!!!

Hi,
I’d like to know how to enable BB service for my SIM… I have a nokia E61 and use M4E to check my email. But recently my office got BES installed and are encouraging everyone to move to that.

Find out the carrier (Vodafone, T-Mobile, etc) supplying the BES software. Approach them and ask if they will support Blackberry Connect on the E61 as some carriers do not currently support the E61. If they do, you need to get the Blackberry Enterprise service added to your phone number, download the Blackberry Connect software, and then arrange an activation with your BES administrator.

hey Musta, on of my friends is having the same problem as you. Last time what we did and it worked for a short time is to have the registration sent again. You have to go to your email settings and then options then options again while your blackberry email box is highlighted. Then you will see the register now.

yeah i did the register now thing but, i didnt get any response, everything is still the same.
let me know what happens after you did the register now.

Guys,
I’m using my E61 POP3 for retrieving emails from 2 different accounts, hosted on a remote server (not a company server).
I also use my laptop to retrieve email from the same accounts.
I would like to have a push email + capability to have my inbox (last 7 days) in my device.
what solution should be the best for me?
if I use a hosted MS exchange server (like http://www.1and1.com) that supports IMAP will it work?
Thanks.
Omer.

My question is: How do I get my BED synchronized calendar to show up on my Idle screen? Before I used blackberry, my day’s calendar events appeared just fine, but now that my calendar is sync’ed to my exchange server, I don’t get any calendar items on my E62 idle screen.

Hi,
I read through all the discussion threads and am currently experiencing some of the issues stated. I tried to connect to my companies Blackberry Enterprise Server but am not able to do it. I did install the Blackberry Connect on my E62. I also have the Blackberry Unlimited plan in place from Cingular. I then installed the Nokia PC Suite and Blackberry Connect Desktop for Nokia, all right versions, and the connected my phone via USB cable to my laptop. When I run Blackberry connect software on my laptop instead of taking me to Connect button as stated in the guide, it asks me to ‘Choose Profile’ showing Outlook as the only option. When I press OK it asks me to neter Username and Password to connect the Outlook to Microsoft Exchange Mail Server. Once I enter the username and passowrd I get an error message stating ‘The account is not provisioned properly on the server. contact your system administrator’. The IT people in my company say that they have rechecked and everything is in place and my profile is active. They have followed the same process as for the other 200 odd Blackberry devuces running on the server. They have not installed a Nokia phone and thus have no clue what needs to be done. Has anyone else faced this message and can help me on this. I have spent a lot of time on this and am contemplating returning the phone I was looking forward to using.
Thank You

Thanks to information posted on this site I upgraded to an E61 and within 10 minutes had email working via Blackberry Connect. I was nervous at first to switch from my old Blackberry device to a Nokia but now that I am over to the E61 I am not looking back. Great site!

response to sapsum’s post from 10/27 - I’ve hgad the exact same things happen to me: e61, install BB on it, try to set it up through my laptop and set it up with my exchange profile and then “your account is not provisioned properly”. And of course, IT folks saying there is nothing wrong with the setup as they’ve used it hundreds of times for other BB. Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to get around it with IT so I’ve installed the Microsoft Exchange mobile client that came with the phone and set it up in about 2 minutes with my corporate Exchange account. So now my corp email works great, and I use blackberry client on my phone for the two private accounts (gmail and hotmail). There are maybe some functionalities that I am not sure are 100% right on my exchange account (contacts syncing and calendar meeting invitations), but I am very happy with this combo as it gives me great functionality, better than previous BB solution I had.
Any other users of MS Exchange on e61/e61?
Any one out there who’s been able to get around the “improperly provisioned” exchange/BB account?

to Randal and JH - I’ve had problems desribed previously with installing BB on my e61, and have since been able to do it. What did the trick for me was resetting the phone to factory settings. Obviously not the move for the faint of heart, but I thought that numerous install/deinstall attempts have probably left a minefield of potential problems in config files the phone uses to boot and run, so, I backed up my contacts, calendar, and all other important info using PC Suite, then I used the codes I found on this site for resetting the e61 and in a few minutes, the phone was back to its out of the box state. The first attempt to install BB on it after this worked great, just like described by many messages here.
Since then, I’ve had a problem setting up my BB/exchange account (described in my previous post), but I’ve had no problems using BB for my POP or IMAP accounts. I’ve insitalled and happily used MS Mobile Exchange client for my corporate exchange mail, calendars, to-dos and contacts and have BB and mobile exchange co-exist happily on my e61. My carrier is T-Mobile and I have unlimited internet as well as BB service with them.

MK, thanks will try your solution and revert back. I believe thefunctionality that will be amiss would be the corporate contact list whihc would have been available using BB server. I opinion someone suggested was that when using BB Connect Desktop for Nokia you need to be on the same LAN as the Exchange / BB Server (not on WAN) whihc means you need to have physical proximity to the server. Another school of thought is that the corporate firewall needs to be configured to allow the BB Connect software to connect to the BB / Exchange server…. Did u try any of these options

I’m using Active Sync / Mail for Exchange on my Nokia E62 and everything seems to be working great, except, I can’t seem to figure out how to get sound notification with new mail. The little led flashes, but I never get a sound. I have checked the phone profile, and changed the sound and still nothing. Any ideas?

I just purchased my E62 yesterday after using Blackberry with an Enterprise Server for 5 years. My main reason for not going with a WinMo device is that everyone I’ve known who had one couldn’t get email to push in real-time despite ActiveSync. All those who had BB - well, it just worked. Blackberry Connect for Nokia is a super-smart move by both companies.
During installation, I was able to “watch” server-side the E62 register automatically with an older Enterprise Server (v3.6). It was the smoothest installation I’ve ever seen and my emails are pushed to my new non-Blackberry with the same speed as before. My E62 IS my Blackberry.

Have got it installed and can receive emails but I can’t send emails out or access the company directory. Any clues?

Has anyone seen the error using an e61 and bb connect that messages over 4kb don’t get delivered? I receive the “Message has more (x Kb)” where x is the amount greater than 4kb. I’ve tried to “Get More” and turn “Auto More” on but haven’t seen it resolve the issue.
Any advice?

Help with Vodafone UK & BB.
I’ve just installed BB on my E61 to work with a web based Exchange service that I use.
E61 app appears runs OK and I think it is set up OK.
I ran the confirguraton using the desktop PC tool and that seemed to work.
I set up BB service with my Exchaneg provider adn they cofnrimed that is working.
When I spoke with Vodafone they said they only support BB on E61 for Vodafone email.
I told them I just wanted BB service activated on my SIM and they said that if they did that it would only work with Vodafone mail - is that true?
I would go ahead and just get Vodafone to set up the service so I could test but it is a 12 month cotnract at a minimum of £10 per month which seems a lot to test
Thanks for any help.

Hello everybody!
I have a very specific question. I was given by the company a blackberry. I really don’t like this device so i installed the BB connect on my E60. I got the sms saying the phone was registered into the network. I also installed the BB connect desktop into my laptop. Now, if I trz to connect the phone to the BB desktop, it asks me if I want to change the PIN (because of course the BB I have has its own which is different from the E60 one). Do you think that if I say yes, changing the PIN associated to my corporate mail box (Exchange server) I will screw it all up???
Thank you in advance for your help!!
Cheers, Claudia

Hi there,
after installing the Blackberry Connect software on a Nokia E-Series phone, is there really a possibility to schedule meetings with the built-in calender, just like you can do it in MS Outlook/Lotus Notes (incl. sending invitations, accepting and declining other invitations etc.)?
I could not find information on that on the Internet. However, it is described in a document by Nokia, but this document is not specifically intended for the E phones, but for Communicators.
The native calendar and e-mail client on the E-Series phone do not seem to support it.
I would be glad if anyone using the BB service on an E-Series phone could give me an answer concerning this question.
Thanks alot!

Doug,
That is correct. If you upgrade the E61 to PR3 (3.x) version, the Blackberry Connect client no longer works. I have the same problem too - it is only compatible with version PR2. So I guess we have to wait until they release a new PR3 version of Blackberry Connect
Hope it is soon as webmail is a pain.

Go to http://www.businesssoftware.nokia.com/blackberry_downloads.php
They have the newest version that works with PR3

Hello Admin,
I’m sure my issue is not limited to nokias but help would be appreciated just the same. I’ve a 2nd hand e61, f/w v3.0633.09.04 and installed BB S60PR3. My company has me on a BES account and we’re also using a Domino server (not sure what versions). Okay, so the BB icon on my handset is always on and I have the service books. Problem is BES admin can send me test emails by PIN only. Emails sent to my notes account don’t come through. And every time I try to send mail it fails and I get a message in my inbox “BlackBerry service error … Decryption failure. Connect the device to your computer.” Can you help? Aside from this, the e61 is great. If I could just get the BB working properly.
p.s. the previous owner had the handset set up on a BES with a different provider (I think it was Cingular).

I have BB connect installed on E61 using Rogers service in Canada. Easy setup and works like a charm with Lotus Notes 6.5.
Does anyone know how to access the company directory (white pages) for contacts and phone numbers, etc.???
January 12th, 2007 at 4:41 pm
Lots of good posts on the BB support. I just switched to an E61 (cingular) after being a treo user for the last 3 years. I’ve been using goodlink on the treo which was the only thing that made the phone useful (worst “phone” quality i’ve ever had).
So I installed Goodlink for the E series. It’s disappointing. The contacts don’t integrate with the caller ID for the phone–I talked to their support staff and their “workaround” was to make duplicate copies in the Nokia phone database so you could see who was calling. That’s a lousy solution. It also is just not as clean as the integration on the Treo, the SMS app can’t access the contact #’s, etc. Very disappointing.
So now I’m looking into the BES service. My question to those who use it is, do the contacts get sync’d as well? I cannot find a definitive answer on the BB site. Good blames the phone for a firmware bug that keeps other apps from accessing the phonebook.
Is BES “really” integrated in the phone or it just another half-integrated app just so the Nokia folks can say they support the BES? Experience is worth 1000 pages of bad documentation, and I’d love to hear what people think.
January 12th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
Hi Tony,
My understanding is that the Nokia E62 (Cingular variant) and Good is a perfect match. Contacts are integrated and caller ID and more works flawlessly. However, the firmware for the E61 is different so there is not the same level of integration (hence the work around suggested by the Good ppl). However, it’s not because of any bug. So if you want a good experience using Good use it on the E62.
The current version of BlackBerry Connec doesn’t support OTA contact sync. It is presently limited to mail and calendar. You will have to manually sync your contacts. However, this is the implementation of the current version.
I use Mail For Exchange and I really like that solution. It integrates (and syncs) mail calendar and contacts.
Cheers
Ed

Hi Ed, thanks for the reply. I did check on the E62 with Good and they said “Unfortunately, this issue does exist with both the E61 and the E62 models. At this time there is nothing else we can to other then follow solution http://www.good.com/faq/17803.html. I apologize for the inconvenience.”
Just putting that out in case others read this.
I’m using Mail For Exchange and aside from being free, it’s pretty good. It’s slower and doesn’t have the nice auto-complete that the goodlink does but i guess that’s life :).
Anyone else have other suggestions for integrated mail/contacts/calendar/task/notes on the E60 series?

does anybody have experience how to set up either SEVEN or blackberry connect with China Mobile SIM account? Thanks
January 25th, 2007 at 2:18 pm
Hi all, just following up my post from 1/12, the new firmware solves some of the goodlink issues i mentioned, namely contact integration. now when you get a call, it matches the # up with the goodlink contacts. Also composing an SMS will use the goodlink contacts by default. You can’t use the internet-call option within the good contacts which is a bummer.

I have the BB Connect running on the E61 but just wondering if you can do PIN messaging via BB Connect. I couldn’t figure it out and have heard that you can receive but not send PIN Messages (I couldn’t do either)…….

Does anybody have an idea why the complete overwrite of the E61 address book via the PC Suite does only download the SMTP addresses and not the addresses from the Exchange server address book, which are copied as local contacts?
I have contacts added from the Outlook address book to my local contacts and added mobile phone numbers and personal email addresses.
The contact details are sent to the E61 including the mobile phone and the personal mail address. But the business address is not uploaded any more.
They were there before but I lost them when overwriting the address book.

I have an E61 running BBconnect just fine but I can’t seem to figure out how to get sound notification with new mail. The little led flashes, but I never get a sound. I have checked the phone profile, and changed the sound and still nothing. Is it a profile matter or the combination BBconnest - Nokia?

Hi all,
Greetings from Dublin, Ireland. I was having same issue as sapsum and many others with “account not provisioned correctly on server” (BES for Exchange and Nokia E61). First of all you may have to call your provider several times to make absolutely sure they
(a) Provision your sim for Blackberry services (I was told twice it was done but somehow it didn’t stick!)
(b) Add the correct Blackberry APN to your SIM profile
Without this done you’ll get nowhere, as I painfully discovered. You should see a small blackberry icon in top left after you send your “Register Now” request from E61. Server should ping you back straight away with success message. If not call operator again!!
Now, back to server issues. I got access to BES server and simply opened the BES Install PDF that comes installed with BES software (you can access it thru Start, Programmes menu or perhaps BB website). Anyway, in the first 20 pages there are some steps you manually have to carry out such as (these are from memory so not 100% accurate, just outline)
(a) Create a BESAdmin (they refer to it as the service account) user and Exchange mailbox on domain
(b) Give the BESAdmin user Send As rights for your account (all detailed in the PDF)
(c) You then need to give the BESAdmin log on locally rights on your PC
There are a few other steps to carry out but none too difficult if you follow manual. After that I connected E61 by USB cable to my desktop PC and restarted BB connect for Nokia s/w and bingo I was in!
With the new 4.1 BES version you can turn on and off calendar synch (saw someone ask this earlier)
Also, don’t fret if you can’t see Blackberry icon on your E61. Once you have it connected to PC while BB Connect running and enter your PIN you will see the Blackberry mailbox icon appear and mails and calendar items flowing in. Its working beautifully for me now - very happy. I was almsot going to pay €100 extra for a BB 8070v now I’m glad as E61 is very impressive.
Finally, if you want best readability from your screen strongly suggest you download the beautiful “Turquoise” E61 Theme by PTWS (I think) - available from Themes blog. It makes the mails and meetings very clear, even from a distance, and the highlighting very visible. Well done to author.
Hope that helps
Richard

Hi, Can I get some help with a the BB Connect integration on the E61. I get this error when I launch the BB Connect desktop: The account is not provisioned properly on the server. I use MS Outlook and it is my default email on my PC. I just changed PC’s so this is a recent problem and I had no issues for the last 9 months. Thanks for the help. Sam
August 15th, 2007 at 7:17 am
Hi Sam,
Please see my earlier post regarding the account provisioning issue. You need to make some small permission changes on your new PC to allow access to the Blackberry system account. Its all detailed in the BES Setup file I mentioned above.
Hope that helps

Hi everyone,
I recently connected the Blackberry service,I didnt want the “Blackberry Email Account” which incidentally had swapped out my original email display with its own(Blackberry)email display,so i deleted it from my device,However now i cant seem to get back my original email display on the screen. My original account still shows me to be the “Default Account” but i cant seem to get it displayed to see my emails.

Hi Mekan,
I have a similar problem to yours. I have configured BB Connect on e61i, I can send emails, do lookup (Corporate BES). But my incoming email is not working. I dont get the option for retrieving email.
I have F-Secure Mobile Security Suite installed. I suspected the firewall in F-Secure to be the cause. So I enabled “Allow All” rule. Still no luck. I even played with the filters.
Can someone offer Help! I am reachable on aads_aadesh@yahoo.com
Please Help
