Desperately Seeking Disappearing DST Patch
Last week I posted about the DST patch that Nokia made available for the Eseries devices.
The patch was created due to the fact that daylight saving time starts three weeks early in the US and ends one week late. Two days later, and before I had time to patch my devices, the DST patch mysteriously disappeared without a word.

The patches are no longer available for download from the Eseries' product pages.
I've been trawling the Nokia Support Discussions and number of other forums for any official or semi-official information about what the deal is with the DST patch. Perhaps it's not an issue at all, but I rather not have all my calendar appointments be one hour off.
What makes this even more confusing is that the patch is available for many of the Nseries devices…

Palm, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile have had their patches available for some time now… I realize that the US is not *the key market* for Nokia but still, I wonder…. where is the patch for Eseries?
Update:
It seems as DST patches are a complicated matter - Microsoft had to patch their Windows Mobile daylight saving patch.

I latched onto it pretty quickly when I first saw it and downloaded it, have already installed it on my E50. Though I don’t remember where I got it from. But I do still have it saved in my download files……

Hope that helps.

Maybe Nokia found a bug in the update, that’s why the pulled it? Perhaps it’ll go back online soon.
I doubt they’ll be ignoring the US market. I mean they’re financing a theater in Los Angeles.

Perhaps a new firmware update is due out which covers the DST changes. I downloaded it when first available so at a guess either the software didn’t work or the firmware thing could be a possibility.

Is this necessary for e62? Cingular says no, but I wonder…
March 6th, 2007 at 7:51 am
I too have an E62 in the US on the Cingular network. I’ve got a friend who is an engineer for Cingular and he told me that we should be good to go on their network. They’ve done patching on their servers and the updated time will be pushed down to the device.
March 6th, 2007 at 9:18 am
Yea, as long as you’re using the automatic time update setting (which would be silly not too) it should update on any of the phones…. providing your provider is uptodate.
March 6th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
yeah…. “providing your provider is uptodate”
T-Mo’s network time always seems to be off by 15-20 min… irritating

In what area? Here in PA T-Mobile is virtually always within a few seconds of NIST time (via WWV or WWVB), as well as GPS time. True currently on E61, as well as previous devices and those of friends.

I used the E61 update on my e62 and now my calendar is an hour ahead. Is there anyway to strip the patch?

Its better to use the official version if any from Nokia. MS recently had to pull out their first version for WM devices. Surprisingly, Nokia still has the DST patches for the NSeries devices.

2 David:
try App. Mgr and uninstall it.

If Cingular says that using the auto-update will supercede the phone not being patched then excellent I dont have to worry
I was starting to get worried since I updated my E62 to the unbranded nokia firmware…any cingular related patch wouldn’t work.

The NOKIA Time Zone Upgrader can be found for E70 on the US website.

[...] However today my phone and my computer said different things. Disturbing. Cause if you can’t trust your electronics who can you trust? It appeared that my computers were right, but my phone was wrong. I was pretty sure I had patched up my phone with this Daylight Saving Time patch from Nokia. So why was the time off? I went looking for the patch, but I couldn’t find it. Apparently I wasn’t the only one looking for it. I grabbed the patch from other places, but I was right, it was already installed on my phone. So I canceled the install and just rebooted my phone. And then the time was right. [...]

As I posted before I foolishly installed the e61 patch on my unbranded, unlocked e62. While the time is correct (pushed down from Cingular), all of my calendar appointments are one hour ahead of my desktop Outlook. I unistalled the updater via the app mgr and even reset! the phone. No luck. If anyone has any thoughts I would be eternally grateful.

On the Europe support pages an update appeared for the E-series but dissapeared shortly afterwards, this was about a 20k file. Now there is a new update but 516k, only problem is when trying to install I get not supported error. Any ideas?

The “TimeZone Updater” disapeared from the US website. However the Europe website have another thing called “World Clock Update”.
Based on the discreption, it seams the software does the same thing. But I’m not sure are they really the same though….

tpalice is right. I had major issues with the DST. My entire calendar was off by an hour and was getting very messy when I synced. I installed the “World Clock Update” and it’s all cleaned up!
So, the disappearing DST patch that you are desperately seeking is sitting right there, incognito!
