New Version of Nokia Sports Tracker
I just can't stop raving about Nokia Sports Tracker and there is already a new version available - V1.37.
If you have enabled "Check for updates" you should get a new version notification when you start up the application.
For some reason it didn't work on my device so I just downloaded and installed the new version.
The new version fixed a bug that could appear when exporting a a workout as a KML file to Google earth.
I saved a screen capture from Google earth based on an exported KML workout file displaying the bug from the previous version of Nokia Sports Tracker.
If you look closely on the map below you notice that I ran from Sudan, through Eritrea and into Ethiopia - now that's quite a run
As much as I wish that I had that endurance there are actually people who do! Frenchman Serge Girard ran from Paris to Tokyo in 260 days. He also ran from Los Angeles to New York in 52 days.
My own Saturday morning jog is just that - a short, nice, morning jog in the Presidio. But thanks to Nokia Sports Tracker and Google Earth I can visually track where I've run.
With prices for bluetooth GPS modules coming down and more and more devices with built in GPS available, we've only seen the beginning of what amazing location based applications will come. Bring it on - I'm ready!

I also use this software for my daily cycling and commute to my work , I am working on a map for KArachi and it’s an excellent tool to get the coordinates on Google Earth , have posted my review on oure61.blogspot.com ( Yes I am back )
@ Ajit , you can order it from US on the net and request them to put minimum dollar amount to avoid custom duties , I got my itrack Z1 ( solar power , data logger BT GPS ) from semsons.com at USD 115 including postage reached Karachi- Pakistan in 5 days and they put computer anteena valued at USD 10 on the box which saved me from duties and taxes

Ed, thanks for your reports on this application. You make me wanna run!

I think what Ed is really doing is just showing off his running skills.

@ajit: the LD-3W is available in Dubai but at a staggeringly expensive price (something like AED 990). I saw this at the dutyfree shops at the airport… didnt check prices in town otherwise.
its available at http://expansys.ae for AED 369.95, which is a good price (about USD 100).

I’m in South Africa and have the same problem, with very limited access to high end Nokia accessories.
Tried eBay with great success, it was a ruthless bidding war that went down to the last second but my Holux Sirf 240 III should be arriving in the post next week. Paid $80 including shipping. Bought it specifically for use with Smart2go.

I bought the Nokia LD-3W here (http://www.mobileplanet.com) for USD99 about 6-8 months ago. This is an american site for expansys.com. LD-3W works great with SportsTracker, Maps (smart2go) and mgmaps.

How do i change it to miles?? Apart from that love it lol

Nokia is up to its great creative thinking again. I love this app and it’s motivated me to get the GPS module. Thank you for the updates Ed. I guess it’s fair to say that Nokia is promoting the use of GPS with its line of apps that use it albeit as an option too, which I’m happy these apps can be used without GPS.

As much as it looks nice to visualize the itinerary on a map, i like to run light and i’d hate to have to wear a phone and a gps module.

Do you think nokia will be updating it with maps included or downloading them from the web?
it looks like is ready to use there own maps instead of using google earth.

Hello. I’m in love with this Sports Tracker. I got my LD-3W finally this morning. And I’m raving with it and Sports Tracker.

I bought on eBay an i-blue 737 for about 45€, it works seamlessly with my E61.
You can check on ebay for a bluetooth GPS, with an MTK chipset or a Sirf-III chipset: they are more or less of the same sensitivity (I can keep it in my pocket and run below the trees without losing satellites!), the MTK chipset has about 24h of battery life, Sirf-III is about 12h.

Nokia has just released a new version of the Sports Tracker (v.1.42). I did not have time to test it yet - but it seems to integrate a way to do gps filtering and a setting change the measurment units to miles from metric to imperial and nautical.

Got big problems with my sports tracker and ld 3w gps it sporadicly loose conn so it autopaus even if i walk quickly, and it shows really weird speed, like over 35km/h sometimes, im not that fast

I have a Nokia E61 phone (with updated software)with a Nokia LD-3W Bluetooth GPS module. Installed sports tracker v1.42. The application doesn’t ask me to active the GPS and it runs without connection. It worked only the first time. I tryed to uninstall the software and install it again, to active the bluetooth before and many others test, but without results. My GPS works fine with other application like tomtom.
Could someone help me?

Hi Raymasky,
No path was visible for me either. Only the placemarks/waypoints.
Apperently there is a known bug with Google Earth in DirectX mode.
Changing the line width of the path from 4 to 1 solved it for me.
(Right click the path->Properties->Style,Color tab)

Hi all
I have the same problem like Max and mtlman. When I first installed SportsTracker it worked with GPS, now I have another GPS which works great with other applications but SportsTracker always shows No GPS. I tried to uninstall and reinstall sw but nothing ???
Any help ?

To Matej:
I have the same problem as you, SportsTracker works first time, but not after that. The same goes for the built-in application “Navigator” that shows GPS info. My solution so far is to remove the bluetooth connection in “Connect.->Bluetooth”, view “Paired Devices”. When I remove the pairing, SportsTracker works one more time.
SportsTracker don’t reconnect to my GPS if I turn it on and off though, so this workaround won’t work in the long run.
If anyone find a solution to this, please e-mail me.
regards
/ Mats

There are bugs in the GPS firmware with 3rd party GPS bluetooth devices on the E65 phone. In my case after the first pairing, my phone looses the ability to pair with any device after that. I am using a “cellular line 44 channel receiver”. This device kills bluetooth completely, and only a hard reset clears the fault. I am afraid we need to wait to see if Nokia acknowledges there is a problem, and then hope for a firmware upgrade. See

You can use any external GPS module with your nokia. I use a Holux GPSlim 436, which works amazingly (It’s a better spec than Nokia’s & cheaper)

I bought my Real Time GPS Tracker for teen tracking at http://www.gpsteentracking.com. I noticed that a simular product is at http://www.ggppss.com. They seem to be close in features and price. I bought mine to monitor my teens driving speeds. They are also good for monitoring the whereabouts of a teens vehicle via a home computer….how cool.
