Firmware Updates
I've been so busy that I completely missed the firmware updates that were released over the past few weeks. Thanks to everyone who pointed this out for me. New, well…new to me at least
are firmware upgrades for the Nokia E60 and Nokia E50.

Yesterday I finally had some time over so I downloaded the latest version of Nokia Software Updater, connected my Nokia E60 and had a cup of tea while Nokia Software Updater worked its charm.
The update went without a glitch. Not sure yet what issues the firmware fixed but the device seems to have more memory available now.

Any word on when Nokia will issue a firmware update for the E70?
April 3rd, 2007 at 11:35 am
Still waiting for an E70-2 RM24 update… What’s up Nokia?
April 3rd, 2007 at 12:07 pm
With new update, the battery life was increased. But Nokia can’t solve the Web Browser problem. It’s locking when you open 2 or 3 window
April 3rd, 2007 at 1:25 pm
So what’s the current ver for the e50? My wife still has 6.27.something.. I ran nsu yesterday with no update found. She’s had that rev for months now.

April 3rd, 2007 at 4:28 pm
The current version for the e50 is 06.41.3.0 and has been out for at least a month
April 3rd, 2007 at 5:56 pm
when you update the firmware (specifically for the e61), does all your data get erased? is there anychance that the firmware will be upgraded but all your data and configurations will remain the same?

For Jon, when you update your firmware all data and settings on the phone are erased. The directions for updating however state that you should do a backup BEFORE updated the firmware. You can backup everything on your memory card and phone memory by using the backup feature in Nokia PC Suite. After updating your firmware you can just do a restore from backup and most everything will be back. I say most everything because there will be a few things you may have to reinstall. They will show up in the applications manager but they won’t really be there, the golf game for instance. I have updated my firmware from version 1……..to version 2………. to version 3……………… Each time different stuff didn’t make it through the backup so I can’t really tell you what you will have to reinstall. ALL settings still will be there as will all “core” programs. Some of the themes went away but nothing important. Another option is just to remove the memory card before starting the backup but still backup the phone memory. Some updating advice - make sure the phone is plugged in before you begin, make sure the USB connection is solid (you do not want the USB connection to be lost once the update process begins)backup the phone, begin the update. The update will take some time, 30-45 minutes. DO NOT TOUCH the phone until the process is complete, don’t worry about what might pop-up on the computer screen, just start the update and leave it alone until it is complete. It will tell you when the process is complete and the phone screen will look like it did the very first time you turned it on. You are now ready to do the restore. It really is an easy process, the only eay I have ever heard of someone messing it up is when the jump the gun and disconnected in the middle of the process. Even if you think it isn’t doing anything or you thing it is hung up, just give it time, it will work great. The update is worth the effort, much better UI and the low volume issue seems to be taken care of. The battery indicator problem is fixed, just a much better phone. Good Luck.

So is there a new FW update available for the E61?
Looks like the E60 is just catching up with the same version number of the last E61 update (3.0633.09.04).
April 4th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
To answer my own question - No, there’s no new FW update available for the E61 yet. Version 3.0633.09.04 is the latest (at least at the date of this posting).
Keatisk’s response to Jon and the mention of the low volume issue got my hopes up. On the E61 v3… there’s a problem with the volume level with some 3rd party apps including the latest version of Smartmovie and Fring, to name a few.
April 4th, 2007 at 10:02 pm
Ya Quist…u’re right!! Everyone is facing problem with volume on the E61….. Well Nokia you’ve got to fix this annoying problem….. Will be a big plus if you add the A2DP and AVRCP profiles for use with your own Nokia bluetooth headsets like the
BH-501
http://www.nokia.co.in/nokia/0,,98596,00.html
BH-500
http://www.nokia.co.in/nokia/0,,98597,00.html
HS-12W
http://www.nokia.co.in/nokia/0,,79904,00.html
I dont know why nokia isnt adding these profiles as they are just software based….. Many other brands with useless phones have A2DP in them, I feel very bad why such a huge company is not adding A2DP for our phones..
April 5th, 2007 at 1:06 am
When i’m trying to update my E60, the software updater programm informs me that i already have the last version installed on my phone(2.0618.06.05 14-07-06 RM49). Does anybody know what the reason is?
April 5th, 2007 at 4:14 am
Nokia PC Suite 6.83 compatible with Vista out April 4th, all the best
April 5th, 2007 at 7:57 am
For Ajit,
nokia can’t be huge company if they add this simple little tiny thing (a2dp) for us. They need you to buy their new model that support a2dp.

I have problems after firmware update 3.0633.09.04:
1. SIP not working anymore. Connects to Voipbuster but calls not working. (someone said that i have to hard reset again and set up SIP without using backup and it would work).
2. Hard Reset doesn’t work anymore. *#7780# and *#7370# codes only do a Soft Reset.
3. I get an error overwriting the firmware with same version. Was something that i tried as it deleted everything on the phone the first time.
So be careful before you update the firmware! Maybe there’s a bug!
April 6th, 2007 at 8:13 am
Mine is working fine for now (except for the low volume when using earpiece), so i guess don’t fix it unless it’s broken.
April 7th, 2007 at 9:38 am
There is no update available for all E60. It depends on the code under the battery. Mine is 0537306 and v3 update is not available yet. Go to the URL to check if the update is available for your specific phone.
http://www.nokia.com/A4305060
Hopefully Nokia will come out with an update for mine.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:11 am
Any word on when Nokia is going to release the Blackberry Connect software for this firmware version? Those of us using BB connect can’t update until then, or we lose our email.
April 12th, 2007 at 3:21 pm
Just writing about my E70 firmware update story.
I was running 1.0610.05.07 30-05-06 RM-10 on an E70-1 0539966.
When I used nokia software updater, it said no firmware update was available.
A friend of mine used the nokia software updater to upgrade his phone with the same model and code to version 2.0618.07.10.
Calling and emailing nokia support was generally unhelpful (such a shame that a company with such great products has such bad support).
I eventually called my local care centre and they confirmed there was a firmware update, and they could install it onto my phone.
I used the in phone backup system (in the memory section) to back up my memory, and dropped of my phone (no sim and no card).
An hour later I had the phone in my hand with the updated firmware.
I restored the backup, and my phone looks very much like it did before I dropped it in.
There were a few little weird side effects.
1) some application vanished
2) Menu items for jar programs were linked to the incorrect program (eg ran midpssh icon and opera came up)
Based upon this experience I would recommend the following process.
1) Call your local nokia care centre to find out if there is an updated frimware for your phone. (use *#0000# to get the version you are running and look under the battery for the make/code. You may also need imei *#06#)
2) make sure you have an install file for all the applications on our phone.
Happy phone owner!
3) for those that you do, uninstall the application
4) backup phone memory
5) drop off /firmware update
6) restore backup
7) reinstall apps.

hi
is this possible with a mac. I don’t have windows?
April 25th, 2007 at 8:57 am
Nokia has still not put out an update for BB Connect for the new E60 firmware. I am really sick of Nokia treating the BB Connect as some afterthought, as they did when it took six months for them to release it originally.
With the recent announcement that Windows Mobile will be sporting BB Connect, and the fact that many HTC handsets will have US compatible 3G, this may be my last Nokia for a while.

Hi guys, can anyone help me, i did something stupid.
I bought a brand new beautiful E61i, i did not realize that the built-in applications were installed on the memry card, i formated the memory card ;(, so now all the applications that were there disappeared! There were maybe 6 applications including 3D golf, email software and others..
Can anyone please advise how can i get these applications back, or get the installation files?
June 8th, 2007 at 10:02 am
As rmg and other said, my E61 has as latest FW, 2.0618.06.05. The release for my product code (Brazil - 0540981) dates from 14-07-06.
Almost a year now!
And version 3 is available for some codes for a while now. Why something like that?? Called Nokia already, and all I got was “Sir, there will be updates, but I can’t give you a date”.
Should we start a petition? We have to gather around and scream loud to them.
I always had nokia phones, beside one time, where I bought a Samsung. Great phone, but nokia rulez. But why in the world make a smartphone with no stereo headfones??????
I am also suffering from the problem with the low volume with Smartmovie.
Regards to everyone.

Hi Bharat,
Unless you have a third party device management solution or enabled the Nokia SMS remote lock you can’t wipe or lock your device.
Cheers

Hi, I have just installed the latest firmware for Nokia E50 (V 07.36.0.0 07-09-2007) and still there is no A2DP.
Does anybody know if Nokia is going to finally add this so desired A2DP in the firmware update and we (the owners of E50) would not be forced anymore to change our phones?
Thanks!

Hi, I have a E50, and I updated the firmware to 07.36.0.0. I have negative experiences with it because the options menu is not working in all situations. In the previous firmware was worked fine. For example: If call me somebody from a new number, I can’t save it to my contacts directly, because the options menu don’t do anything.
Anybody have this problem? Any ideas, how can I fix this?
Thanks!
