Nokia E61i Now Available
Limited quantities of the Nokia E61i has been available in select channels for a few weeks now. This morning I received official notification from Nokia EMEA that the Nokia E61i is now available.
I assume that this means that production is ramping up and that it should be easier to get your hands on the E61i without bending yourself backwards, or sacrificing your firstborn. I am very, very, very tempted to upgrade my Nokia E61.
We'll see

Just can’t wait… Come to daddy!!!

Ha ha ha, that’s my feeling too.
I’m fighting a loosing battle with my wallet. I just bought the E65 and I *KNOW* I will buy the E90. The question is - can I resist the urge to get the amazing E61i…
April 27th, 2007 at 9:59 am
@Ed: haha… dude thats totally my situation too..
i got an E65 as a backup phone for my p990, and i just *know* i’m gonna sell them both and get an E90 when itsout
April 27th, 2007 at 10:16 am
It’s already in Malaysia! Woot
April 27th, 2007 at 10:17 am
…although i’m really torn between the p990 and the e90, to be honest. the p990’s latest firmware runs like a dream (albeit 6 months late!), and i love touchscreen UI navigation and handwriting recognition, plus QWERTY thumbboard all in a very compact package.

i’ve it from 3 weeks……………………

Love the E61, but without American 3G it makes it hard to upgrade. I need me some 3G!
April 27th, 2007 at 11:42 am
Ed, go ahead and get it, I have had mine in Chicago for almost two weeks now and love it, much faster overall and more svelte, paid 520 retail and well worth it
April 27th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
Will… argh I think I have to go and bite the bullet.
Placing my order!

I’m a bit disappointed with the E61i. It’s a bit heavier than the E61 and has a better aesthetic but in terms of features, the 2mp camera is the only benefit. No A2DP and no HSDPA which one would expect in the next generation. Also, the MiniSD has been downsized to MicroSD which means for TomTom users, you’re going to be limited to how many maps you can carry with. .. looking forward to the NEXT generation now.

Just got my E61i last week here in Finland. I must say, it’s great. I gave N95 away for this, reasons were battery & keyboard
April 27th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
Finally I got it yesterday! The menu browsing is faster than the E61, anything else is the same speed. The camera quality is nice and cristal clear. Video call is ok but you can’t see each other at the same time because of the rear camera. The phone is heavier because of new metallic materials. Battery time is longer. Phone is thinner so not easy to hold in hand. Buttons are smaller so typing and navigating is a big disadvantage. I will stay with my E61. If camera is not a must for you then stay with E61 because of the terrible keyboard.

E61i is available in Singapore. I just traded in my N80 for it. My 1st QWERTY and it’s great! Have also tested it with my bluetooth GPS with E61i’s integrated Navigator software. I must say the big screen really helps compared to N80. The only thing that irks me is that the microSD (which should have been a mini SD) is under the cover, making access more difficult. N80’s miniSD card is at the side of the phone. Other than that, it is a great phone!

Hi solitaire, does your E61i come with Chinese language, or only English one? Thanks!
April 28th, 2007 at 1:46 am
Great, now i might make the transition from E61 to E61i anyone know when its coming to AUS, or the APAC market

I am from Hong Kong and has subscribed for Smartone-Vodafone Business Email. I previously used Treo 750v for such services. I have recently upgraded my device to Nokia E61i (purchased from Singapore) and understand that Nokia E61i should support visto mobile v5.5. However, I noticed that Smartone-Vodafone Hong Kong does not provide that software for me to download. Can you urgently help me out on this and show me the way where I can get the relevant software?
Thanks and regards,
Eric

Have T-Mobile Blackberry Connect up and running on my uber sexy E61i and I’m ready to roll… Tried a couple cheaper and free push email services like Mailx, Emoze and Consilient Push but came back to BB Connect because like the iPod, it simply does what it’s supposed to do much better than the compeitition (i.e. once you get it up and running on any non RIM device).

AHHHHHH! I’m in South Africa as a volunteer at the moment and there will be no money when I come back but I WANT THIS PHONE.
April 29th, 2007 at 11:37 am
Hopefully the E61i fixes some problems with the E61 and those fixes will be backported to the old phone. Still got some compatibility issues with my carkit. My 6310i works fine but the E61 doesn’t. Time to fix this Nokia.
April 29th, 2007 at 5:30 pm
Is it 3G compatible?
April 30th, 2007 at 12:27 am
GL,
The Nokia Australia website has an availability email signup on the E61i page.
To me the back of the Australian version looks different to the pictures I have seen of other E61is. Go to nokia.com.au and go to the E61i page and select more images. Seems to cut in at the sides, and looks plastic.
April 30th, 2007 at 12:28 am
GL,
It also says ‘Planned for 2nd quarter 2007′

It`s already out in Russia. It`s price is $570. Heh, it`s not for me right now… *Dreaming on installing E61i firmware to my E61…*

I received my E61i a few days ago. I owned the N73 and the E61 before that. I am 99.999% in love with the new version. I do wish they had included the new ARM process but overall its a great upgrade. I have been using putty for ssh to my UNIX servers, Widsets is an awesome application for news feed.. even works ok on EDGE. Nokia internet music play is fantastic! Wayfinder 6 works fine as usual. I used Divx player to watch a popular TV show and I do not see any urgent need for Opera over the Nokia browser. The Weather application in Worldmate is sweet.. you wake to the weather forecast in full audio. I have installed Fring and am waiting for Skype to get their act together. Overall.. the new housing, the personal key, and the new keypad are fantastic. Its a really great device.

I played around with the e61i in march in san jose- I had dinner with some coworkers and met the business solution director of nokia and he had one.. its lighter and thinner.. but other than the camera i dont see the point of upgrading since there is no 3G stateside

Are you guys telling me my current memory card on e61 will not work on e61i?
May 2nd, 2007 at 6:36 pm
It wont work. I had an E61. The E61i uses a micro-sd… its so so damn small.

Hey does anyone know if the e61i has predictive texting now or spell check? and if u can import contacts into text messages?
May 3rd, 2007 at 5:06 pm
Oz - RE: 3G - The phone is definitely 3G. One good thing to report vs the E61.
Whenever I tried to check IMAP4 email, browse the web, etc. with GPRS/EDGE while on the phone with the E61, it wouldn’t permit me to do so (unless I was in Japan where my roaming charges were pretty steep.)
The E61i on the other hand allowed me to do so while here in Vancouver… which is, from what I understand, true 3G. Okay, so I’m marginally happier for plunking down the cash to buy the phone now.
Cheers!

Hi,
I finally got my hands on Nokia E61i yesterday. After a lot of online research (a lot of it from this blog site!), I decided that it will be THE PHONE for me. I had to sacrifice my E50 in the process, but I guess I had enjoyed that phone for quite some time now!
Anyways, I am just worried on one issue. I feel that my E61i has a slightly loose top back end cover (where the camera is located) and the top white strip. It some times feels creaky. Is this the issue with someone else as well?
December 17th, 2007 at 4:43 am
Yes, I had the same… it snaps into place with use. I would not worry about it much.
January 26th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
I have been a gadget freak all my life. I’ve used smart phones like O2, Dopod, Communicator etc. Recently purchased this e61i and i must say this is one of the best model made. Im quite a heavy user using most features of the phone and the battery life will end within 9hrs. So have to get another batt for standby.
