Nokia E70 - New Firmware Available
There is a new firmware available for Nokia E70.
The new firmware version is 3.0633.09.04. It installed beautifully on my Nokia E70.
Still not sure where the improvements are but I expect it's a bunch of bug fixes and possibly some VoIP and other enhancements.
Fire up Nokia Phone Software Updater and go and get it.
Thank you to everyone who wrote to tell me about this!!!
UPDATE: If you use BlackBerry Connect you might not want to upgrade yet as there is no compatible BBC client for the new firmware version. See more information in the comment section.

Looks like only a E70-1 update for now… I used the Software Update Availability link on the Nokia Updater page and it tells me that 2.0618.07.10 is the latest for my E70(-2).

Hmmm I’m still waiting for the E61 firmware… that may have the volume issue fixed and also probably with A2DP and AVRCP profiles… Please Nokia PLEASE!!!!
May 1st, 2007 at 10:31 pm
New firmware 3.x for E70 seems to be in wide release now. Firmware seems great (more memory, faster feel, apparently many internal improvements). However… Nokia, please release the updated Blackberry client as well. None of the current versions work with the new release.
I got so many people in the office to move to Nokia based blackberry service and they liked it much. Then suddenly stop! no more blackberry service available. You can’t even downgrade to the previous version of the firmware. So now I am looking for another Blackberry device until Nokia gets its act together to update the firmware. Ridiculous!!!

@Gushter
I agree, it’s not a good situation - but you really should be testing your required applications before allowing users to do firmware upgrades. We have a similar setup here (though we’re using Mail for Exchange not BB) and I always upgrade my own phone first, test it out for a couple of weeks then give them the OK to upgrade their own.
Hope they get it sorted for you soon

should I upgrade my E70 with the latest firmware or not?
May 3rd, 2007 at 6:55 am
Mine still doesn’t show the update
I have an RM-24 like in the screen shot above but it’s still only finding the 2.x one
May 3rd, 2007 at 1:21 pm
I attempted to use the updater on my phone and like the earlier post, my E70-2 shows that the 2.X firmware is the lastest.
May 4th, 2007 at 8:21 am
When I try to update mine still show v2 too. Maybe Nokia didn’t release the update for all E70? My E70 is E70-1 RM-10.
May 5th, 2007 at 5:51 am
ugh. don’t update.
extremely disappointing to find /after/ the fact that the firmware breaks blackberry support. i called nokia, and their response is “buy a new phone”
May 5th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
Meh.. i’d rather update in hopes of fixing it.. my microsoft integration busted today.. seems like i’m going to have to format it anyways.. i wish i could get v3.
May 7th, 2007 at 9:55 am
Ever since updating my firmware to v.3, like others here I haven’t been able to use Blackberry Connect (still paying for it though…).
Nokia says it’s a network provider problem but they don’t support the E70!!! Unbelievable that Nokia releases firmware without testing whether BBC works… As I use it personally (not professionally) there’s no way I can test whether it works or not.
My advice: if you use BBC, don’t upgrade!
May 8th, 2007 at 12:32 pm
Ugh, USA spec E70 is still not updated yet.. Have the “out of memory” errors when browsing a decent webpage gone away? That’s all I want.. That and no lags when flipping the keyboard open/closed..
May 8th, 2007 at 3:40 pm
I’ll be recieving my E70-2 back from Nokia’s Repair Center tomorrow (joystick started giving me trouble) so I am unable to try the firmware update at the moment… But if it’s not working for everyone here, I’m sure it will be no different for me.
Does anyone have any insight as to when the new firmware will be available for the US?
May 10th, 2007 at 4:47 am
I applied the firmware update. I can access the web via wifi still (I connect to an Apple Airport) but I can no longer make VoIP calls even though the SIP host is connected and shows Registered.
May 10th, 2007 at 4:20 pm
Still no Blackberry connect support after 10 days. May be Nokia is right, I should buy a new phone. Unfortunately for Nokia I would be getting the Blackberry 8100 not the E65 to replace the E70.
The only excuse they may have is to release the BBC 4.0 software for the E70 instead of continuing support for the older version. Just communicate something, talk, you know
May 13th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Uuuhhh… So how is everyone able to update their E70? I’ve tried using the Nokia Software Updater, and it said that there are no available updates for my phone…
Model: E70-2 (RM-24)
Firmware: 2.0168.07.10
Am I missing something? How was everyone here able to update their phone?
May 14th, 2007 at 1:52 am
I’ve updated and all connections are very instable. Bluetooth connections with PC and carkit collapse very often. After turning BT off and on the phone it re-connects, but before the update I never had this problem. After making a cable connection the phone just gets jammed or reboots… hopefully Nokia will come with a solution very soon! I wouldn’t update if I were you!
May 14th, 2007 at 11:22 am
So, how many people have done the 3.X upgrade with the E70-2 phone?
May 14th, 2007 at 9:42 pm
I think the question here is how did YOU upgrade to the 3.X version? Where/How did you get the firmware update?
I don’t understand why certain people are able to download the newer firmware, while others (such as myself) are unable to even find a later version than 2.X…
I’ve downloaded the Nokia Software Updater from the US site, and also the European site, but they both state the same thing: version 2.X is the latest.
May 15th, 2007 at 6:37 pm
Wait a minute… Now it makes sense.
There are more than 2 versions of the E70. It’s not just limited to the RM-10 and RM-24, (e70-1 & e70-2) but there are also different “product codes.” The version 3.x update is only available for the 0537093 coded E70, as far as I can tell… Your product code probably depends on where you bought your phone, and when you bought your phone.
By going to the Nokia Europe site, you can download the 3.x firmware version simply by inputting the 0537093 product code into the “check availability” section of the website. However, if this update isn’t meant for your specific E70, then you’re probably taking a bit of a risk… I’m curious now, but not enough to update it because as far as i know there is now way to down-grade the firmware after updating.
June 1st, 2007 at 5:05 am
When I launch the Nokia software updater it reports that there are no updates for my e70. It’s still running version 1.0610.05.07 RM10
Any recommendations how to get the update?
Thanks in advance.
June 2nd, 2007 at 4:31 am
When I check for updates, there is an update available. But I’m not sure that the update will be an improvement. Can someone, who managed to update, indicate if the update is an improvement.
I know there are problems in the following areas:
- I do not use BlackBerry Connect.
- For SIP calls I use the built-in VOIP client, but also Fring.
June 3rd, 2007 at 2:11 am
I just upgrade my E70 with the new version 3.X. The phone not boot, loops to NOKIA screen (w or w/o the SIM and the Card). Any idea?
June 6th, 2007 at 7:32 am
It seems there are so many complication with the latest firmware. I guess I’ll just stick with the 2.0618 until Nokia release a workable firmware.
June 11th, 2007 at 2:40 am

Have anyone been able to resolve the Blackberry connect problem vs V3?
June 17th, 2007 at 8:22 am
I upgraded the firmware to v.3 early may, and now since a few days the new BBC is finally available ! And it works on my E70… here’s the link:

Is your E70 a ‘Generic’ UK model by any chance?
I’m a frustrated Orange user who has an (ex-vodafone) E70 simply because I think it’ll be the ideal phone for me - if only I can find a version of the Firmware that allows Orange’s ‘Line Two’ service to work!
I gather I can change the Product Code to tell NSW that it is generic and therefore not be restricted to Vodafone’s version of the Firmware. I just need to know the Product Code of a Generic UK E70. Thanks
June 24th, 2007 at 1:08 pm
I’m with you Nofiwr also have a vod e70 and wanting to do the update as i belive voda with not impliment any more. So we need the generice product code for e70 and also how to do it…. How do you chamge the product code…or how do you add that v4 firmware..any ideas have done your now!!!
June 29th, 2007 at 8:01 am
I have just updated my E70 to v3.0, everything worked fine and the phone reports v3. But the two soft buttons (OK - Cancel Buttons) no longer work. Any ideas anyone?
June 29th, 2007 at 9:54 pm
anthony
can you tell me where the new bbc software is?
the current version does not work with v.3 and the site is showing only v2 software.
i guess i should have checked before going ahead with the firmware upgrade after reading your mail
thanks

July 4th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
so i have an E70 or two sitting in front of me… unbranded, but australlian delivery… (RM-10 0539966)… down here in aus, f/w 1.xxx is still considered CURRENT!!! … and while we’ve managed in the past to convince the nokia service centre to load f/w 2.x, i want to see 3…
so off to product code a-changing i went
v3 does seem imediatley faster… web browser seems more stable… music player, while quieter, doesnt ’skip’ - new BBC works as well/as bad as ever… couple of apps dont work, but we can live without them…
anyway… HELP!!!… minor technical hitch - product code i used, 057093, where ever its local to - obviously has a differant keyboard layout! th , / @ key types ä/Ä , @ is on the 3/£ key / is on the 7/& etc etc…
any thoughts on how to rectify this? or even how to downgrade the firmware again (surely NSS can do it? but it doesn’t seem the easiest software to drive!)
ideas much appreciated!
cheers!
tim
July 6th, 2007 at 7:05 am
TimTam can you post a pic of your keyboard layout?
July 7th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
I’m in TimTam’s boat with an 0539966 model still wallowing in v1. The problems with it are so bad I’m ready to risk bricking it by sticking a different model’s 3.x on it. Does anyone know of an E70 model number that officially uses 3.x that has a US-layout QWERTY keyboard? Seems like there should be a little database of model numbers somewhere.
July 8th, 2007 at 4:49 pm
No prob… here’s a link
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa53/Boss_of_the_TimTams/e70kbd.jpg
i think its the UK layout?
I’ve read that downgrading firmware is a big no-no on symbian devices - but suspect that re-flashing the same with a differant localisation would work - if i can convince it to do it!
July 8th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
My E70 is from US, RM-24, but product code is 0516774 , and couple months after your succesful update with Cingular, I am still runing v2, no updates available :-(.
July 9th, 2007 at 4:56 pm
Bedlam, i reakon if we can find a generic UK product code, we’ll be fine with our 0539966es (bloody lazy nokia aus - the service centres keep telling me the model doesn’t even exist here! even though they had one in a show case in their foyer!!!)
i read a site (cant find it now, and forgot to bookmark) that says NSS will show the list of applicable product codes once you download the firmware - of course, it didn’t say how or where to download the firmware…
i tried transferring the BIN image that NSU downloded into a \program files\nokia\phoenix\products directory (NSS appears to look there), but it didn’t find it - it seems NSS has the ability to re-select a product code and flash it anyway - but buggered if can work out how!
July 10th, 2007 at 3:38 am
I thought about using a UK product code - there are a few around. One would get stuck with the Pound sign, but how often does $ come up in one’s life with the phone?
It should be possible to brute force a firmware upgrade if one had access to the service centre’s serial cables. Seems like you need to go to a swap meet and find the least dodgy rogue phone tech.
July 10th, 2007 at 3:40 am
D’oh. Of course if I bothered to look, I’d see all those currency symbols nicely lined up. So surely a UK firmware should make no difference at all then.
July 10th, 2007 at 6:49 am
Hi TimTam
here you can find a list of product codes, but they do not specify what language nor keypad layout do they have , using NSS and NSU will let you find the appropiate code all of them are V3 except for the last 3 codes that are still V2, at least Brazil and LTA have Spanish on the variant but the layout is quite different, i do have code 0538292 UK version with V2, but it is the exact same keypad layout as yours, but still no V3 for this particular code

Oh by the way if someone with a E70 with an spanish varinat can provide a product code and post a pic of the keypad layout I would really appreciated
thanks

Hi
I have the Australian version E70 with V 2.x firmware and the Nokia updater wont update the firmware.
I have the same keyboard layout as TimTam http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa53/Boss_of_the_TimTams/e70kbd.jpg
1) What product code can I use to update my phone to V3.x and keep the current keyboard layout and function?
2) How do I change the product code or trick Nokia Software Updater to update my phone?
August 29th, 2007 at 8:43 am
Hi
Please, as I configure the keyboard of my Nokia E70?
thanks!
September 23rd, 2007 at 10:39 pm
I have a E70 (RM-10) APAC version with firmware 2.xxx. There are two problems I face with E70. First, every Word document that I open the contents are displayed as boxes, second poor Wifi connection. I am keen to know from those E70 users with firmware 3.xxx have these issues solved and what other improvements are there, if any. Thank you.
September 29th, 2007 at 1:36 pm
I just heard that they discontinued the Nokia E70 from a phone store i usually shop at. So there is no more hope for any improvements on the software..that’s bad news..because I am a Nokia E70-2 owner.

For those of you still wanting to get your hands on the v3 firmware but whose phones can’t be updated AND have the key-set as shown in the screen-shot posted in a previous post (e.g. mine was a UK Vodafone model), I’ve done some research and discovered that if you change your phone’s model number (there are plenty of guides on how to do this on the Internet, do a search including the word NSS which is one of the programmes you use) to “0516117″ (leave out the quotes), that is CUSTOM TR EURO-A you will be able to update and have your keys working properly.
I’m afraid I can’t guarantee that everything will work as normal as I haven’t found out yet but it seems stable enough. Don’t blame me if things go wrong, besides I might be in the same boat. Also worth mentioning is that there is another CUSTOM TR EURO-A code (0527028) but that’s labelled as ICASA. A quick search reveals this to be a phone technology used in South Africa and possibly elsewhere so if you know that your provider uses this then that might be the code for you instead, I have no idea.
Incidentally it took me a while to work this all out as I tried pretty much every model code on the list found on a few forums about this subject before I got to this one (even though it is first, doh!) so if you need information on the other codes drop me a line at john.roblin@btinternet.com and I’ll see what I can do.
October 19th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
Has anyone tried John’s 0516117 code? I have an Australian phone - 0539966 -and am tempted to try it. But I’m a bit nervous about giving my phone a personality disorder (ie making it think it’s keybord is German).
October 23rd, 2007 at 1:50 am
I also have an Australian phone and want to be sure that the new firmware is more stable/reliable than the 2.0 series, as I have been informed that it is not possible to downgrade.
Has someone confirmed that code 0527028 has the same keyboard mapping as 0539966?
October 23rd, 2007 at 1:51 am
Sorry, I meant to say does code 0516117 (CUSTOM TR EURO-A) have the same keyboard mapping as 539966.
November 5th, 2007 at 2:10 pm
Two days ago, I updated my 2.x firmware to to 3.0633.09.04 using Nemesis Service Suite (NSS).
Switched from original product code 0519274 (custom transceiver APAC-T, English and Thai languages) to 0516117 (custom tr EURO-A, English, Dutch, Latvian, and Lithuanian languages)
The new keyboard layout is the same as posted by TimTam:

I have an E70 RM-24 with the spanish keyboaard layout and 1.0610.05.07 firmware. My product code is 0532929.
I’m having “Feature not supported” problems starting with MfE 2.0 that can be fixed if I’am able to upgrade to the 2.XX firmware. They problem I’ve runned until now is that the only product code that I have been able to find is for US cell phones. Does any body have a Product Code for RM-24 with Spanish keyboard layouts that is capable to be patched to at least 2.xx firmware.
Keyboard layout is shown in the following link: http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee154/jmgomezp/E70_RM-24_Spanish.jpg

I’ve got an E70 (RM-10) on Vodafone UK, with code 0531051, and according to the Nokia web site/Software Updater, it is still stuck on v2.0618.07.10
Anyone have any luck updating this to v3? If I do it, I risk bricking it, (although it we business support with vodafone, so could probably get a replacement)

Hi all
I am running the V3 update on my UK E70 now by changing the product code to 0516117 as mentioned above. I successfully changed the code and NSU then picked up the new V3 firmware and its updating as I type. I’ll report back when done! Fingers crossed…
The site to get all the software to do this is here:
http://nokia.nigelcoldwell.co.uk/firmware.htm
December 29th, 2007 at 5:24 am
It works! I just pressed *#0000# and found my phone to be saying its now:
3.0633.09.04
20-11-06
RM-10 Nokia E70
One thing though…..back up everything first! I lost it all but all my stuff was backed up anyway so no bother.
Thanks for the suggestions in this thread!
December 29th, 2007 at 6:30 am
My update to product code 0516117 worked! I successfully changed the product code on my UK E70 RM-10 then ran the Nokia Software Update program and it picked up firmware v3 and it updated successfully! Everything works perfect and i can now use the latest Mail for Exchange too! The phone seems quicker with certain functions too.
I’m over the moon with this and thanks to everyone here who left the helpful comments.

Well, I just stick with what I have, don’t want to risk to have a brick. RM-24, f/w 2.x. -polo-
March 10th, 2008 at 9:17 am
Me again,
Karl e-mailed me and asked me to add his feedback (positive I’m glad to say) on his experience with updating his phone. He said:
“I had an O2 UK shipped E70 and followed your firmware notes changing the phone model to 0516117. This enables the v3 software to load and I now have a far more reliable phone – wireless was hopeless before upgrade.
The phone was a standard UK phone but following upgrade:
(i) VoIP works without crashing
(ii) New scrollbars on menus
(iii) More memory
(iv) Never crashes
It’s a vast improvement – never use Bluetooth so no issues there.”
I use Bluetooth quite a bit and I can’t say I’ve encountered any problems with that particular function yet. My phone overall has been fine and any unexpected quirks are things that happened before I upgraded anyway.
Lastly, for some reason I forgot to post the link to the complete list of phone-codes for the E70 so here it is: http://www.my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28474 . Unfortunately no keyboard layouts are mentioned there but you can hopefully work out which one you need (if yours is different to mine) from the names given. You will need to register at the forums to read the list in its entirety.
March 12th, 2008 at 8:55 am
I noticed nokiausa.com no longer has the E70 model listed. The same goes for nokia’s europe site. Are they discontinuing that phone?
April 23rd, 2008 at 7:51 pm
I’ve tried following these instructions to the “T”.
NSS won’t recognize my e70 when I scan for it.(tried running it in conjunction with PC Suite, and alone…unplugging and plugging in phone..)
I’ve tried entering the code in the right spot, selecting the box, and clicking “write”. Nothing appears to happen, and when I run Nokia software updater, it still says I have the e70-10 that can’t get v3.
In the device info screen, everything is found except
->Products Dir(’products’)…….Not Found.
..I don’t know if that has anyhting to do with it.
I’m running XP, with the latest version of NSS.
I’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing everything related to this process that has been so simple for everyone else..
Think you can figure this out for me please? I’m at a huge loss, and excited about my new(ish) phone!!! …I just want the best for it =)
Thanks!

I just did an upgrade on my Australian to the 0516117 v3 as mentioned above.
Everything seems OK, except I have no loudspeaker, ie the phone doesn’t ring, vibrates only. Music player won’t play through the loudspeakers, but will work with headphones. Loudspeaker on calls won’t work either.
I’m not sure it’s actually a firmware upgrade problem, as I normally have my phone on Silent (yes I did switch to General before firmware upgrade).
Has anyone got any tips?
June 5th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Successfully upgraded to fw version 3.xx by changing product code from 0527538 to 0516117
June 20th, 2008 at 9:33 am
For those of you with the v3: when going to a secure site and it pops up a certificate, do you have the option to “Always Accept” and not have it bother you in the future? Like with my website link above.
Also, has anyone heard of v3 being released for the US E-70 (RM-24) yet? I have a 0516774.
July 2nd, 2008 at 11:34 am
Woohoo! It also worked for me. NSS didn’t show any product codes and NSU interrupted with a error message that the connection to the phone was interrupted which made me a bit nervous, but after removing and reinserting the battery it booted with the new firmware. Thx to all contributors!
