i didnt know that the $5k was for charity, at first i had thought hartono wouldve been nuts to buy that piece at that price. But now i know it's for charity, so it's okay then.

Well, most indonesians are crazy about their mobile/cell phones. I think mobilephone is like one of the must-buy top ten items in indonesia. Most celebs or mid-up class people carry 2-3 mobilephones.

Great move by Nokia but all this fund raising is delaying the release of the phone. I need it now!

Here's a message from the article for Ric. "The proceeds from the auction will be donated as charity to UNICEF." Might want to read the entire article next time before you sound like a complete fool.

Well from my visit, Malaysia, Singapore and India seem to be the place for the communicator series. Its like the phone to get, although i doubt that most features are hardly used. Its like a status phone over there. So i'm not surprised that it reached that price.

Anyway cant wait for it to reach singapore as well. Not many followers as the 3 countries mention but hey its a new toy so its good to have ; )

Wow! I didn't know Indonesia is so big on the communicator series! I think it is a real cool way to auction off the first E-90. I'm from Singapore, just an hour flight north of Jarkata... eagerly waiting for E-90 launch to replace my rapidly aging E61. I hope the launch pricec won't break the bank!

I know this guy for the past 24 years of my life!!

Congratulations for winning the first E-90 bidding! Heard of the event, but couldn't go due to a photoshoot schedule.

It's true that $5,000 is a considerable amount of money, but imagine the good it would do to the people who need it around the world. Most would say excessive, I'd say that it's $5,000 well donated.

I totally agree with Hussein and Farhan! For a mere $5k he gets to:
1.) donate to Unicef (which we really never consider doing);
2.) be the 1st owner of E90 in the world albeit "for free";
3.) have the above picture shown in e-series (so that we know he is a nice guy, the one in the middle)
I am an Indonesian and $5k means a lot in our country. I would say the equivalent of about 50 months of salary (minimum standard wage requirement). Honestly, I wouldn't mind giving away that cash if only I have that much to spend on charity.
Congrats to Mr. Hartono Gunawan.

Hardly foolish Ric. All the money went to Unicef, a pretty good cause and that dude got the most ultimate phone way ahead of anyone else. Essentially he didn't spend $5k on an E90, he spend $5k helping the most troubled children of the world and got an E90 thrown in.
