Nokia Media Transfer Supports Nokia E70
Nokia Media Transfer now works with Nokia E70 without any hacks!
Nokia Media Transfer, which enables you to transfer pictures, videos, podcasts, music, and files between your Nokia mobile device and your Mac, was released two weeks ago but it only supported Nseries devices.
However, Nokia has quietly introduced support for Nokia E70. (Thank you Nokia!) The device is not yet listed as one of the supported devices but there is a profile available for the Nokia E70.
I'm really pleased to see that Nokia Media Transfer now works with the Nokia E70 and hope that it is just a matter of time before more of the Eseries devices are supported.
The application is very well thought through. Transferring music or podcasts from your iTunes to your device is a breeze.
Music can be transferred randomly through "Music Fill Up" - you define how much music you want to load on the device and then music will be added randomly.
Of course, you can also create a playlist and manually add songs.
Don't forget to use "Option > Update" to refresh your music catalog if your recently added music doesn't show up in your music library.

Nokia Media Transfer also supports easy import of your photos on your device to iPhoto. With one click all your photos taken by your device shows up in iTunes.
You can also create a photo album in iPhoto, add photos and then transfer the photo album to your device. It is really, really easy.
Nokia, thanks for implementing support for Nokia E70, pretty please expand support to rest of the Eseries devices.
If you are restless like me and can't wait for official support for the Nokia Media Transfer for the Eseries devices I recommend reading Volker's excellent post about Putting the fun back into Nokia Business.
Volker point's to this site with profiles for the rest of the Eseries devices created so that you can easily add support for Nokia Media Transfer for Eseries.
Thanks Volker!

Well as an avid fan of the E70 and seemingly one of the ONLY (E)lectrix-70 users..thats what I call it..I am shocked and elated to have this beta version available as I am a MAC only computer user. Thanks E-Series and I am in SF.
Thanks NOKIA.
Will the new Mac IPHONE make Nokia phones obsolete? Thats my next question and either I will go with the E61/E90 due to solid highspeed and up to six simul bluetooth connex or Iphone. Any thoughts from you Nothing but Nokia Folks?
Holla back

Don’t mean to spam but I posted this in an older entry, which is now at the bottom of the site so I’m hoping people might comment on some of these questions:
Hello,
First time with a Series 60 or Nokia here.
Why do you need a transfer application? Can’t you transfer files by Bluetooth File Exchange or even mount a microSD card on the Mac OS desktop and drag files over?
Or does NMT re-size the photos and videos to work on the Nokia phones as iTunes does with photos and videos on the iPod?
Does the media have to be in specific directories on the microSD card?
Does the E61i even have the hardware capability or the software players to play back podcasts, videos and photos intended for the iPod?
All I see in the Media folder is a Real Player, a generic Music Player and Flash Player Lite. None of these obviously will stream videos from sites like Youtube and the browser doesn’t appear to let you download video files (no right-click option to save the file, only can save links).
I’m curious to see how people are playing media if they do get them transferred to the phones. Google search indicated MP3 and AAC are supported but which video formats would be supported? Probably not Divx but some H.264 variants?
@wco,
To answer some of your question…
You could manually move files between your Mac and your Eseries device through a number of means, BlueTooth, MicroSD card etc. but this application just makes it easier and automate the process.
The NMT does not re-size the files (at least not to my knowledge).
Cheers

Looking forward to see this support e61 soon as well. It hasnt been easy to transfer files, or backup my phone since i moved to Mac. Hopefully this will fill the gap.

How do you play the files, just click on the actual media files and it will launch whatever player?
Or do I need to download/buy some other player software?

The Itunes sync feature is really cool. Does anyone here about a Windows application that would do the same for an E70?

Here’s some instructions on hacking the Media Transfer app to support your E-Series phone:
http://techtransit.blogspot.com/2007/06/nokia-media-transfer-for-e-series.html
It’s pretty simple…all you have to do is copy and edit a certain XML file and put it in the right folder. Enjoy.
I’m not sure about the utility of the app, though. I guess the real value is that the phone shows up in iTunes. But it couldn’t be simpler to transfer files and browse my phone wirelessly over bluetooth in OSX via the built-in Bluetooth File Transfer.

A Nokia exec. was interviewed recently and he said Nokia agrees with Apple on the value of “sideloading” that is loading content onto phones via computers as opposed to downloading content via the mobile network of the operator.
If you really want to load OS X media, you could always get the iPhone.
I would have to spend about $50 to get a 2 GB microSD card and the AD-46 adaptor to listen to music, view podcasts, photos or videos on my E61i (depending on the formats supported).
Or I could just take my Nano (which can’t play videos but lasts a long time for audio playback).
But having some media on the phone would be a good backup for trips, in case something happens to the Nano.

Did anyone get this to work on a US version E70?

Hi,
You can find here (http://www.geocities.com/jking_ok/blog.html) the profiles for E series working with Nokia Media Transfer for Macintosh. Just download yours ant then go to NMT on your Mac, right click on its icon to see “content of package”. Browse until you fond the “Profiles” folder and drop the recent downloaded E series profile here. It works perfectly.
Sorry for my frenchy english…

Hi,
I just downloaded the Nokia Media Transfer from Nokia site and it did find and support E65 straight “out-of-the-box”. So, apparently they have added some further profiles to the installation package.
