Mail For Exchange Now Supports Nokia N95 & N73
A new version of Mail For Exchange, Nokia's Exchange ActiveSync client, has appeared on the download site. This new version, Mail For Exchange 1.6.1 includes official support for Nokia N95 and Nokia N73! Something many of my readers have been waiting for.

The new version also includes a number of bug fixes. Download the new version from here.

Yes, but the 1.6.1 can’t be installed on the E61i or the E90.
It starts, and the it automaticly cancelles.
July 2nd, 2007 at 8:58 am
Hi $vend,
Mail for Exchange 1.6.1 works great on my Nokia E61i. Now if I only had a N95 to test it with
Seriously, something is probably wrong in your settings. Double check the M4E preferences.
Cheers

Great! Just upgraded from ver. 1.6.0. Smooth installation on my E61 through PCSuite. Mail4Exchange in combination with Mail2Web is really great!

Nokia says that your AP must not have proxy data inorder to use the Mail for Exchange application. I have $5.99 T-zones internet from T-mobile USA which requires proxy to browse. I guess i am out.
Any experiences?
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:11 am
svend : try it again several times, keep insisting, finally it will work.
it’s like a first night in bed with a girl.
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:22 am
But I’m guessing it still doesn’t support folders or calendar appointments or global catalog access.. or etc. etc. etc. Their time might have been better spent fixing these ‘E’nterprise issues for the ‘E’-series than getting it to work on a music playing camera… Ho hum!
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:23 am
installed it first try on my e61i. haven’t noticed anything diff.
i just wish they would do a wifi roaming thing. when i’m home/work/campus i want it to use wifi but on the road i want it to use EDGE. bah.
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:48 am
Abdullah,
It will work with an AP that is setup with a proxy, but the proxy may shut down your connection if you use Always on. So then the phone has to keep reconnecting which can run down the battery. Make a copy of your T-zones AP, edit it, & remove the proxy info under Options>Advanced settings. Then try the new AP for MFE and browsing…
July 2nd, 2007 at 12:27 pm
Thanks Ed for the tip!!! One thing I noticed though… after refreshing my content list the MFE icon disappeared.
July 2nd, 2007 at 1:20 pm
Has anyone noticed that att has now stopped tethering?? Also some of my third party apps that used to work now dont (go talk mobile). Im not sure if this is just a glitch in atts system for today, but mine and my wifes phones are acting strange today…not sure if this is a cingular to att thing or not. Any suggestions??? Thanks!

Mail for Exchange NOW Available for the N73 and N95 - Really this time…
Recently, Mail for Exchange was made available via the Download! folder of the Nokia N73 and N95’s. Like the rest of you once we tried to install it those devices weren’t in the list to download. E-Series.org reports that it…

hi giama, how does mail2web work i.c.w mail4exchange? And what’s great about mail4exchange compared to say gmail? Hope to hear from you or somebody else who knows about it. I’m new to mail4exchange so sorry if it sounds noob.
July 2nd, 2007 at 2:51 pm
Hi Bas,
I wrote a blog post of Mail2Web here:
http://www.e-series.org/archives/194
Basically it is a free Microsoft Exchange mail box service (there are several subscription models). It is a VERY cool service and because it is Exchanged based you can get your email pushed with Mail For Exchange.
You should check it out.
Cheers
July 2nd, 2007 at 2:54 pm
Even with “Always on” the AP is shutting down immediatly. isn’t there a chance to keep it up, so that the E61 is not reconnecting every 5 minutes. Thanks in advance.
July 2nd, 2007 at 4:05 pm
This new version of Mail for Exchange also installs on my brand new Nokia N75, but it can not be executed. The app seems to have a check. I bet it’s possible to swizzle the binary to change N73 to N75………guess I have something to do this evening
July 3rd, 2007 at 2:53 am
Just tried it on the E61, it works, I think I have uninstall 1.6.0 on the E61i, before installing 1.6.1.
July 3rd, 2007 at 2:55 am
I can add, it runs perfectly on the N95.
July 3rd, 2007 at 3:26 am
Just installed it on my E61i. It installed over the old version. No problems. R
July 3rd, 2007 at 5:05 am
After uninstall, I could install 1.6.1. I did not work easterday on either the E61i or the E90.
July 3rd, 2007 at 6:43 am
Hi, does it support push sync with calender details also? Like the E65?
July 3rd, 2007 at 10:21 am
dear ed,
I use mail for exchange as push mail and i want to know how can i synchronise the emails with my pc emails…
regrds
satish
July 3rd, 2007 at 5:10 pm
Hi Satish,
“Mail For Exchange” is a solution based on Microsoft’s Exchange Activesync protocol for over the air email and PIM sync. It is for used with Exchange mail servers. It is not a solution for a cabled sync of email on your PC.

I also use a data plan with a proxy - and mail4exchange works without special proxy settings. If SSL-connections are possible, it should work. Should also work with WAP 2.0-”Flatrate”-plans.

Hi Alex,
The current version of M4E does not support originating or responding to meeting invitations.
If this is critical for you I suggest giving RoadSync a try. The license fee is about $50 but it supports more feature than the current version of M4E.
Cheers

Hi,
does anyone know wether Mail for Exchange supports Root Security Certificates? I sofar always used Windows Mobile devices and it’s no problem to install such a certificate on these devices…However:before buying a E90 I would like to make sure, that I can a) install such a Certificate and b) it would work with Mail for Exchange.
Does anyone have any idea and/or advise?
Thanks!
Stephan

CL,
Regarding: “Even with ‘Always on’ the AP is shutting down immediately.”
See my other post about the Access Point in use. Always on keeps a connection open but it is idle a lot of the time. The proxy may be closing your connection because it is idle for too long.
July 7th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
Stephan,
As long as the certificate is in the correct format it can be installed on the device. The same it true for WM5 devices. I actually found it a little easier on Nokia devices than WM5 devices, but I’m more familiar with Nokia devices.
If the certificate is stored on the memory card and selected it will be pulled into the certificate store. If this fails it may need to be converted. Generally the certs need to be DER x.509.
Try going to http://forum.nokia.com and searching for “installing certificates S60″.
Are you trying to use self created certificates on Microsoft SBS? These are a little trickier, but possible to use. The information is available in one of the pdfs from the site above.

To piggyback on to what Sojan states, proxies also cause a secondary problem. If ‘Always on’ + a proxy is used, your GPRS connection will be dropping and re-establishing really frequently. For example, one US carrier, AT&T/Cingular drops after 1 min. of inactivity.
The pattern is connect, drop after one minute, MfE waits 4 minutes, connect…
Not only are you always on only 20% of the time, your battery life is drastically reduced because creating the GPRS link takes relatively lots of power. Back when N80 was supported on MfE, I would only get 3 hrs. of battery until I removed the proxy. Then I could go over a day.
July 7th, 2007 at 3:01 pm
One MfE menu item that is not understood by many is the “Ping interval”. Too bad. This is set to a pretty conservative default, but increasing this will improve battery life in most cases when ‘Always on’ is used.
The description of the menu item could be better. It says: “Decrease this if you are experiencing frequent disconnects”. It should also say “…increase this for better battery performance.”
Try bumping it up to maximum and observing it. If you find yourself getting disconnected frequently, drop it to 12 and repeat until you stop getting disconnected. I use mine at 15 without any problems (Exchange 2003, no proxy, AT&T SIM).

Does anyone know how to enter line breaks in email messages? Currently I can only type long strings of text with no line breaks?
Arhhhh.
July 9th, 2007 at 3:35 am
Line breaks - on the E61 its the “down and left arrow” below delete. Guess its the Return key!
July 9th, 2007 at 7:25 am
@Sojan: thank you!
July 9th, 2007 at 12:27 pm
Will there be another firmware for E61 sooner? I hope they include WEP certificate selection and not just a key authentication.
sorry for going off topic!
July 11th, 2007 at 7:30 am
M4E is working like a charm on E61!!!
its a super combination to act as a blackberry + phone for almost free of charge!
July 12th, 2007 at 1:49 am
Tried it on my N80 IE. did not work.. F*”#¤”#CK !!! >:(
July 12th, 2007 at 3:44 pm
Does this version autolock the phone? Can anyone confirm?
July 12th, 2007 at 9:41 pm
Nathan, if your phone doesn’t have a keyboard, you can enter line breaks:
Hold down the ‘*’ key until a grid of special characters appears.
Then pick the on you want, which in this case is an arrow that goes down and left with the arrowhead on the left.

Hi, my name is Kazu, from Thailand.
Thanks for announcing new Mail For Exchange.
Because I’ve tried MFE with my N95, and it didn’t work last time.
I’ve installed MFE on my N95 and it works!
But the ptorblem is that MFE doesn’t show on stand by display like E61 or E90.
So, when the mail arrived, I have to go to “Massaging” and read from “Mail for Exchange” menu.
Doesn’t MFE for N95 shows on stand by display like E61 or E90?
July 15th, 2007 at 2:01 am
OK.
Tried the old version from my E50 on new N95 which worked OK but would not allow me to view the email content.
Found your update, removed the old version, installed the new.
We don’t have a certificate for the email server at the office so Mail for Exchange always finds an untrusted site during connection.
The old version always asked whether to trust the site and then synced. The new version does not ask the question.
Question:
How do I get around this?
Regards,
Daren

I agree that it’s quite disappointing that M4E still doesn’t provide support for appointment requests or folders. However those who are looking for more functionality might want to give RoadSync a try.
The price tag is a little steep, but it handles multiple folders (including filing messages) and appointment requests, and they’ve finally fixed the horrible ugly font issue that plagues the first 3.0 release (you can now select from three font sizes).
Worked great on my E62 and now my E90, and still a better solution than even BB Connect 4.0 IMHO.

Hello all,
I would like to start using M4E on my N95. Before even downloading the software i notice the warning from nokia regarding the use of PC suite for sync’ing. What does this actually mean? What can i not do after installing M4E? Any help much apreciated.
Kindest regards
Dave

I wonder if other phones will gain support, say the new 6120? That is a good replacement for the E50, but it doesn’t run enterprise software

For Dave,
The M4E warning sounds worse than it is. Al it means is that you have to be careful not to sync your e-mail and calendar with BOTH M4E AND PC Suite. You will get doubles of all contacts and calendar events. Use PC Suite to sync to sync your notes as these don’t come over in M4E but use only Mail for Exchange for contacts and calendar. I only made that mistake once, after cleaning up my contacts and appointments I won’t make it again anytime soon. I’ve been using M4E for over a year, it is excellent.
July 19th, 2007 at 9:54 am
Daren Friday,
Newer versions of Nokia firmware seem to have removed that prompt. One of Nokia’s documents (FAQ/TSG) speaks about this. You will have to install a certificate on your server. If this certificate is not one of the ones that’s preinstalled, you will also have to convert and install the certificate on the device.
A cheap one that’s preinstalled is Valicert, which is from GoDaddy.com. It’s only $25/yr.
You can find the doc I’m talking about here after you enter locale, carrier, and model info:

Try choosing a diffrent connection..

This can’t be installed on any other S60 FP1 device, like my 6120 Classic. However, has anyone tried changing their phone’s product code using NSS to the N95 EURO code, 0536062, and then tried installing Mail for Exchange? Does this work?
October 26th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
Tried this on my 6120 and it doesn’t work.
The code changes no problem using NSS but still won’t run MFE2. It installs but fails when you try and run it.
Very annoying for a phone that is meant to be a business phone.

Hey all,
I have installed my M4E in my N95 lately. Whenever I sync my email, I cant view my email. Y this prob persist??

Mail for exchange for Nokia 6120!
I was also disappointed that MfE does not run on Nokia 6120. Then I found an application called “emoze”, which is a perfect substitute. It downloads emails from my office account running on MS Exchange. You can get emoze from http://www.emoze.com

January 4th, 2008 at 2:03 am
just tried it on my 6120, it doesn’t work!
looks like it’s trying to sync then nothing happens.
when i check the Accounts > Status: enabled > Folders to push = NONE
even after i select all , when i re-check it says NONE.
can someone please tell me how to overcome this?
many thanks

January 15th, 2008 at 8:03 am
Here’s a do this at your own risk solution to how i resolved the exchange server not responding issue:
Step 1. Installed the webmail certificate on my phone. This can be done by opening webmail in a browser and saving the relevant certificate.
Step 2. Restart you phone
Step 3. Remove the proxy server address from the internet connection settings on your phone
Step 4. Set the Application settings to All using the App Manager - Adv settings
Hope this helps!

Does anyone know how to set it up so that when I delete an email on my Nokia, it is NOT deleted on the exchange server and Outlook?
I other words, I have an assistant that checks my email and organizes it for me… yet I still like to be able to check emails as they come in… on my Blackberry… I would delete emails I was not interested in at the time and yet my assistant was still able to see them and do what she wanted with them.
I get 600+ emails a day and obviously managing them on my phone would not be fun.
Thanks.

Hey good news people! I have a N73 ME and was figuring out a way to use my office mail in it. I was already doing webaccess, but i needed mail for exchange software for it. I read somewhere that in the “downloads” shortcut of “internet” folder of the phone, webmail is available. So i went to the menu and updated the contents, to my surprise, i actually saw Mail for exchange for N73 there! I went ahead and downloaded it, it works like charm! only thing is, it doesn’t show the mailbox in Active standby screen. But sync works fine and i was able to send mails/recieve and delete too!
The mailforexchange version that i got through the download is version 2.03(0) Go ahead and install in your N73s! finally iam able to use my email properly through my n73!

Hi ppl, just installed latest version of MFE for my N95-1. Very impressive. Unfortunately mailforexchange.com provides free storage capacity of upto 25MB of email space. Quite tiny compared to what free mail service providers provide these days. But this one provides mobile colutions perfectly without any problem. Any of you guys or gals know about other websites provides free mail for exchange servers for emails? (plus settings)
Thank you all.

Hii ppl, Just installed M4E software on my N95-1. Using Mail2web for Mail for exchange free email servr. Runs perfectly without any major errors except oncassional system errors which maybe due to gprs congestion problems. other than that, all is fine..
