Dear Spinvox - I Can’t Live Without You!
I've gotten hooked on a new drug and I cannot, will not, give it up.
The name of this wonderful new thing that is making my life better and more productive is SpinVox.
SpinVox is the British company with an impressive motto: "Any Voice, Any Phone, Any Screen"
SpinVox converts voice messages left on your phone to a text message delivered to you as an SMS or via email.
I'm often on the phone or in a meeting so I end up getting quite a lot of voice mails. Since my days are often action packed and I run from one fire drill to the next and from one meeting to the next I frequently forget (or don't have the time) to check my voice mail.

The result can be catastrophic when I later that day (or later in the week) finally get around to checking my voice mail just to find out that I missed an urgent call.
With SpinVox I get an email with the voice mail converted to text delivered to my Nokia E61i. I can check my voice mail just by reading my email.

I can naturally also access my voice mail by dialing to SpinVox and listen to messages and then delete or save them like vanilla voice mail.
I wish I had this service when I was travelling in China two months back. I spent several minutes on the phone trying to access my voice mail. As you probably know if you are not dialing in from your carrier to listen to your voicemail it is not as easy as pressing 1.
If I would have had SpinVox at the time I would have received an email with the voice mail converted into text. Instead I was struggling with the Cingular voice mail tree trying to get my messages. I must have spent at least four minutes and at least four dollars or more, on the phone before I finally got my voice mail - it was a wrong number call…

As much as I recommend SpinVox, getting it is not as easy. It is available in certain regions (most of Europe) as a paid subscription service but in the US it is only available through a tiny carrier - CinnBell.
However, for the lucky ones in Europe, there is a free seven day trial - take it for a spin

Could you mention what the main advantages are between the E61 en the E61i?
I am thinking about updating but my E61 is almost brand new and working perfectly.

Hi Sam,
At first I really didn’t see the value of the service but now I am hooked. I can’t live without SpinVox. The voice to text conversion is fairly accurate. Sometimes names can get messed up but nothing serious.
Hi Niels,
Kind of off topic but…
the E61i is
Smaller, feels more solid, camera, MicroSD, better keyboard etc.

Waaaah! My precious e61 got wet the other day and its dead in the water. I feel so lost without it, but at the same time $350 was hard to come by the first time I bought it. I don’t know why i’m torturing myself by coming here…

in Hong Kong, there is something similar, but easiler - Pager services to SMS, which means, someone called you and you unable to pick to call (or you divert the call to this pager number), he/she will be answered by a pager services, and REAL person record the message with customizable greeting. And that pager services will sms you. That is.
