A number of photos of the recently announced Nokia E51 has surfaced. I received a few photos, below, and Mobile Burn has posted even more photos.
Phone Scoop scored big with a hands on demo of the Nokia E51.

The Nokia E51 supports EDGE (EGPRS), 3G, HSDPA, and WLAN. Mail for Exchange, Visto Mobile, and Seven Always-on are some of the corporate email solutions available.

The fantactic news are that E51 has CPU ARM 11 with clock rate 369 MHz and Free RAM about 50 mb! It’ll be perfect smartphone if U suite 2″ screen and U dont need qwerty! Waiting for next news, photos and AFTER-TOUCH comments HERE!:)

I still prefer my E61! Nice work though!
September 25th, 2007 at 6:47 am
The E51 seems a superbly configured device, but such top-notch specs without a QWERTY keyboard is a huge let-down.
What serious E-series users need is an E61i and E70 with the same specs. Nokia, are u listening! Let this be your New Year gift to E-series loyalists. We’ll see how much you care.

Does anyone know exactly when in Q4 the E51 will be out? Even what month will do?

Gr8 update Ed…
I’m looking for a worthy successor of my E61. The E61i is good but not very different from E61.
I would like all these E51 features on a QWERTY Keyboard phone…
I would also like Nokia to release a version of the phone without a Cam. Really useful for people like me for whom cameras are banned at workplace.. This is the main reason why I still have my E61.
September 25th, 2007 at 10:00 am
Dear Ed.
please let me know whether normal blutooth keyboard works with nokia E61?
If yes let me know the process.

I have written about Bluetooth Keyboards on the blog before.

Hmmm one question for you Ed….!!
Would you give up QWERTY for the features in the E51?? Well the features are gr8…But..hmmmm…What say??
Dont you think its high time nokia comes up with a new QWERTY??
NOKIA WE ARE WAITING!!

This is one hot phone. I got tp play with one recently. It’s slim, and uses the next version of Symbian software from the one in the E61i etc. It just feels faster than my E65.
September 25th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
I don’t really like the “6120 Classic”-like design, but I’m eagerly waiting to see it live. Specs are impressive, but I would like a version without camera too; I think the camera will be shitty, anything below today standards (3.2 Mpix AF) is kinda “useless”, and a feature like “shitty-camera-in-the-first-place” would only brings unnecessary bugs in (Nokia E50-1 anyone ??).
I have a E50-2 and reading blogs and forums made me feels like E50-1 got more bugs than its counterpart.
C’MON SOMEBODY AT NOKIA, E51-2 PLEASE !!!!!
September 25th, 2007 at 4:34 pm
It all started with the E50, and I hope that Nokia are starting the new generation with the E51. Well, nice thought and I’m keeping it
September 26th, 2007 at 8:32 am
I’ve been waiting for such a phone, normal candy bar, with Nokia’s Native VoIP & HSDPA.
Can’t use VoIP on 3G with E61 or E61i, only Nokia Communicator E90 is able to make calls over VoIP on 3.5G. That phone is not only heavy but expensive for my VoIP-over-3.5G islandwide deployment.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:43 pm
Having owned all of the E-series, but E90 (still to hit the market in Mexico), also got a chance to play with an elegant Silver E51, wich I think is a great phone, I still think the E61i is the best of the E-series

I have no idea what you are talking about- a prototype of E51, maybe???
According to Forum.Nokia.com E51 is FP1 phone, like 6120, N76, N95, E90 and E61i is FP0, like E65, E70, E60, E61 -day and night:

Notice one thing E51 does not support Blackberry. Hence; a few of you may reconsider their opinion about this product.

I would like to see something like the HTC S730 from Nokia with S60. I’ve got the e61 at the moment and I’am thinking about to try a WM6 phone.

Hi,
I just got the E51 and I have a question:
How can I set-up this phone to dial out and connect via GSM to the internet and/or receive mail. I cannot find the setting as I had a E65 and that was easy to find…did Nokia forgot something on purpose???? Any help/advise is appreciated

I have an E51, been using it about 2 weeks and now turns off completely every now and again … not a reboot, completely powers down.
I hope this is not the start of a battery or power problem as the battery is a new design …
Anyone else having the same problem ?
December 18th, 2007 at 11:31 am
Hi JTH,
I am not having any problems with my E51. Did you try to hard reset the device? You might want to consider a complete hard reset. (DO back up your data before you perform the hard reset)

Guys, I got the e51 and I am really happy with it. I live here in Argentina (got the phone from a friend in italy) and it really does everything well. I have it connected to my asterisk at work and works like a charm. The only thing I would like it to do is not to have to create a new sip profile everytime I am near a wifi ap. It would be great if it had the option of connecting to my asterisk via the current wifi access point.
Other then that the phone rocks!!!

emdiyu,
finally i’m success in using my E51 WIFI… But i don’t know how come…
i have tried many times to use my WIFI, but always failed…
I also have tried to change the setting(IP, gateway etc) manually..it was fail as well…
but, 3 days ago, i tried to connect my E51 wifi again, in other place.. and it was success… and i tried in other place..it was success again…!!!
but until now…i don’t know how come…:)
i guess that fail or not,it depends on the hotspot/access point setting, and i don’t know about that… because i always use public hotspot…

hello guys, we bought 3 E51s , two black editions and one silver. I don’t know what’s problem, but after 3 days the one black E51 froze and we couldn’t turn it on anymore. The second black E51 is also buggy, in random times it turns off (sometimes once a day, sometimes 4-5 times a day). The silver edition is OK. If you have idea, what’s that bug about, please let me know. I’m sad, cause its cool fone.

If you have you music in mp4 format and you want to use your E51 to play the songs; you must use the nokia music manager to convert your files. From the PC Suite click the Transfer Music icon. Scan your PC for music files. Select your music files to convert and place these to my collection. Copy to Phone; this will start the convertion process. This will covert your music files to audio/mp4 that E51 knows to read. It will also create an album for your music files or you can select per track only to play.
Hope this will help you music lovers. God bless.

hi! i recently encountered a weird experience with my E51’s WLAN. i can’t disconnect from my WLAN. it keeps on reconnecting for some reason. has anyone encountered this problem too? TIA!
February 19th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
i found the cause of the WLAN reconnecting. it was the SIP / internet telephony program. i tried connecting to my SIP profiles and after my unsuccessful attempt to connect, the WLAN just wont disconnect even after exit the app and even after i deleted my profiles. seems like a bug. can anyone confirm this? thanks!

Hi!

I’m planning to purchase a new E51 this week. After reading the reviews I came to understand that this mobile is very nice with lots of features. However I could find some reviews pointing out the bugs like Random Restart. I fear that this would ruin the basic functionality of the mobile. Please comment / suggest on this point.

Does anybody know how I can make my E51 vibrate first THEN ring when I get an incoming call? I had this on my old phone, and it was great. I guess I could create a new ringtone with 10 seconds of silence at the beginning and use that but if anybody knows a better way I’d love to find out.

E51 Problem - Firstly, great phone, but! I have laterst firmware and all is well. Somebody please try this, need to know if it is a problem unique to me. Go to a calendar appointment and send to somebody via a text message. (on nokia phone) The appointment that arrives has all details but is two hours earlier on the recipients phone!!!Regional settings, time on computer, everything is correct from what I can see. Even tried reloading firmware. I spoke to nokia support and my phone is 8 day old now so guess what they wont exchange it, they will check it in for repairs though. Nice Guys!!!
March 12th, 2008 at 3:39 am
Just received it yesterday. Great! Especially Wifi features, easy connection, and easy setup. Camera is okay although it doesn’t have flash light. Anyway, business phone is a business fone …

March 21st, 2008 at 4:39 am
Hi, Can some one send me some info on these things? (Nokia E51). I’m trying to find a video or more info on the VoIP features under WiFi. I am interested in using it for VoIP calls though my Mesh and other wifi hotspots. Also I wish to know whether you can dial from the phone book once a call is already connected? This is required for IP dialing through gateways etc.
Please feel free to EMail me if you think you can help out. vk4akp _at_ hotpop -dot- com , I am also on MSN, Yahoo, ICQ etc etc IM under the same handle. (vk4akp), TNX in advance anyone that can help out. ~ken~ .-.-.

I love my brand new Nokia E51. It’s very stylish and also business like. For the price and the features, it’s definitely a 10/10!
May 29th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Used E51 for over a month. The first 2 weeks everithing worked smoothly, notwithstanding the embarassing camera quality and the shutter sound that can never be silenced. AND the tiny fonts size that cannot be set larger without purchasing the software separately.
The third week it went “peep” in my pocket. When I looked, it says “SIM memory is full and unable to receive more messages.” Not knowing what to do, I deleted some messaged in the “inbox” and “sent” folders. It went “peep” again with the same message.
I deleted some more messages in both folders, I even “marked all and deleted all” in the “sent” folder. It didn’t go “peep” anymore. But no new message ever came. So what did I deleted those messages for? This happend three to four times during the third week.
Today a call came, but the ringtone was default. I tried to look for the ringtone I had previously set up in the supplied 512 MB memory card. The message said: “(memory card corrupted).”
I removed the card under the recommended procedure (press once the power button, scroll to “remove memory card”, removed memory card and pressed OK). The flas screen with the red exclamation mark “Remove memory card and press OK!” stays on even after I removed the card and pressed OK.
Tried press-holding the power button. Nothing happened. So I removed the battery while this nerdy thang was still on. I put the batt back and re-inserted the batt. Turned the thing back on and tried the file manager. The horrifying flash came back grinning: “(memory card corrupted)”
Googled several forums (excuse me, is THAT the correct plural form, “forums”?) and found this problem is persistent in previous Nokia series and will regularly come back even afetr the card is formatted and all data in it TOTALLY LOST.
Is there any protection against TOTALLY LOSING DATA stored in a card boosted to hold 4, even 8 GB?????

IMPORTANT

For those of you who are experiencing random powering off of the phone, try this little experiment:
- Make sure the phone is on.
- Shake it vigorously!
Do you feel something shaking inside your phone?
Did it power off on its own?
If it did, you are having the same problem as I am. No software/firmware update can fix this… because the problem is not on the software/firmware. It’s in the phone’s design.
************
THE SOLUTION
************
Wrap the battery with paper. Cut about 1 inch strip of paper and wrap it around the battery. Make sure you do not cover the battery’s CONTACT POINTS. Make sure not to over lap the paper. Just make sure only 1 layer of paper is around the battery. Any thicker and the phone’s back cover will not close. Adding the paper will secure it in place. The battery is too small or the battery compartment is just too big.
I hope this helps someone. Cheers!

I bought the E51 last Christmas and have found this model to be precisely the way they designed and marketed the phone for—Executive! Sorry to read some bad experiences here. Recently our mobile operator launched 3.5G HSDPA and I am able to use the phone in full 3.5G high speed mode as a modem to my laptop and connect to the internet at close to 1Mb/s when I am on the road. This is just fantastic!
Before there was 3.5G services I reviewed the phone as such:
http://shimworld.wordpress.com/2008/01/13/nokia-e51-finally-it-makes-sense/
After 3.5G became available, it became a whole new experience for me including instructions on how to configure XP to use 921600 bps modem speed instead of the cryptic 480,000 or so bps:

I got my Nokia E51 phone almost 2 months ago, i’m quite impressed by the Features on the phone; the only thing MISSING on the E51 is the QWERTY keypards. Only if it had a QWERTY keyboard, then, it will qualify for a True Smart Phone. Maybe, if Nokia decides to create the E51i version, i will strongly suggest that, they incorporate a QWERTY keyboard. I have a problem where my e51 (AT&T) cannot receive international SMS. I can send/receive domestic SMS, send international SMS, and receive international calls, but not receive international SMS.
The sender is Australian Vodafone, and I know they can successfully send them because another AT&T account gets them just fine. Any ideas?
