Mail For Exchange 2.1
Mail For Exchange has left 2.0 behind and reached version 2.1
For those of you who still haven't tried it out - Mail For Exchange is Nokia's implementation of Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
With Mail For Exchange you can over the air synchronize your Microsoft Exchange account with your Nokia Eseries and certain Nseries as well.
The new version includes among other things the following enhancements (from the change log):
- Support for new Nokia Nseries devices: N81, N81 8GB, N95 8GB
- Heartbeat interval setting is now configured automatically
- The Company Directory application is now available as a standalone application via its own .SIS file
It also includes a number of bug fixes and other improvements.
If you for some reason only want to install the Company Directory Look-up function you can now do that as a standalone SIS installation. Of course, it is also part of the normal installation of MfE.
My favorite new function is probably the fact that with each new version, set up of MfE as well as instructions are getting better and better. Case in point - initial splash screen warns you of the perils of using PC Suite to synchronize your data while also using MfE (data corruption/loss of data could happen).

The new version is available for download from here.

Thanks Horia! Glad you like my new haircut ;-D

Heartbeat configuration remains available for adjustment. What it appears to do is adjust it automatically but nothing stopping you adjusting back! Had expected it to have options to change it removed totally but still there and still clearly within the 2.1 User Guide on the Nokia site also.
Upgrade very smooth - as an E Series user cannot notice / see any difference but always nice to have the latest version (if not always sensible to do so)!

hmm. looks like easier configuration.

Hi, Does MFE have Push Email. Is roadsync better or should I move to MFE
November 6th, 2007 at 10:21 am
So sad..
The issue send-mail-not-immediately still remain. With some access-point, users have to manually launch Synchronise-Email to send email.
Again, I have to go back to Ver.1.6 which doesn’t contain that problem. Damn, I had done that once, at Ver.2.0.
November 6th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
Are the SSL issues from 2.0 resolved? Are Notes Sync and Access Point Groups included?
November 6th, 2007 at 1:08 pm
Sigh, still no HTML email
November 6th, 2007 at 10:20 pm
I am still with MFE 1.06(1) as this version is stable and you won’t lose any data. MFE 2 is quite unstable. Is 2.1 the stable version???

2 days with 2.1. Form me it´s same as 2.0.

Is there any Exchange-client out there for Symbian that actually supports HTML-mail? I just switched “back” to my Nokia E61i after using a HTC TyTN II (AT&T Tilt) and although I *hate* Windows Mobile - I must say that I like having Outlook with its HTML-capabilites etc.

Still no access point groups. Surprise…
Nor folders. Surprise….
Has anyone tried to contact Nokia about these features (particularly the first since the built IMAP client can do it)?
Re: Stability. I have found MfE v2.0 (and those before) to be very stable on my E61.

I would love for my phone to look for wifi networks first and then fallback on EDGE when the my wifi access points aren’t available, for M4E.

I upgraded a couple of days back & I think I have found a bug. I choose reply all & it adds my email address to the “To” list. I am like Duh!

My upgrade runs fine. Thanks for this great site.

I am having error while installing MEF v2.1 it showing “Update Error”
I have same error while installing MEF v2.0. I am still working with MEF v1.06 anybody solution for this. Thanks.

You can adjust the heartbeat interval, but system will still try to settle on what it determines to be the ideal. Set it and wait a while, then check again.
Reply to all add you if you have not included your email address in the last tab of settings (profile).
mebanna, can you describe that problem you are having with mails not being sent immediately? I don’t have this problem.

Still using 2.0 as can’t see any new features. Is there a fix being able to view your exchange groups “by Company”. I like e61, but this is a big disadvantage when you are synchronising 1500 contacts
November 9th, 2007 at 7:04 am
With MFE 2.0 I had some issues accepting meetings. I installed 2.1, now all is perfect. Access point groups would still be nice but not a hugh deal for me. Getting my sub folders would be more important for me. I have used Roadsync, all things considered, MFE is the much better app in my opinion. You give up a lot to get sub folders with Roadsync.
November 10th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
ugh — still no folder support, still no access point groups, still no text size select. I’ll try it for the company directory app, but man — why can’t roadsync + MfE just merge, or at least get a clue from each other — stupid roadsync with no auto-complete of contacts in the TO: and CC: fields….
November 11th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
Note that folders Roadsync doesn’t necessarily work properly if you have a lot of folders (I have >100). When I tried it, it only showed maybe a quarter of them.
Overall I found MfE better (and free).

After upgrading to 2.1, the mailbox icon on the main screen, doesn’t have the yellow indicator when connected, it’s all blue (as if I’m unconnected), even though it is connected. Anybody having the same?
This is quite irritating.
November 18th, 2007 at 7:03 am
The propblem I described in my previous comment went by itself few hours later… It’s OK now.
November 18th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Shamai - the same thing happened to me. I lost the indicator after upgrading but it just started working by itself. Strange!

I have MFe 2.1 with a E61, and SBS2003, I have been able to update everything very good, up until 2.0, and the corporate search. This has never worked. And now with 2.1 My calendar has stopped working syncronizing. I also have Quick office 4.5, that is supposed to integrate with Mfe. And neither one will work. I have done a couple of wipe the MFe and reinstall from scratch, with no change. Next Step is a NUKE the Phone totally. (Hard Wipe) , and reinstall from scratch. Haven’t the wherewithall to try this yet. My phone is running great except for the MFE from hell.
Any help/suggestion/voodoo would be welcome
Steve

Hi guys….This is the best blog for E Series nokia and i have subscribed an RSS Feed of this site to my E61i. Let me share with u guyes the best thing i had ever come across…its Emoze! emoze is a push mail software that works with gmail and google application. It does not require any exchange server accounts or any special IT help. I 1st subscribed to Blackberry services on my E61i…but to my great disappointment, i was unable to make any attatchments to my out going emails. I contacted my sevice provider n was informed that it is only possible through blackberry handsetd. Then i came across Emoze…it had slipped in download software list on my nokia n73 music edition. I rather installed it on E series…n Wowwwww….things r soooo smooth:-) i am very happy with it.not to mention i had already unsubscribed Blackberry with twice line rent as that of regular GPRS use. Link for pc download is http://www.emoze.com and their wap portal is available through m.emoze.com
I am Ali from Lahore, Pakistan. I run my own business and I am a Chemical Engineer. I use Mobilink for my E61i.

Emoze gmail push only work if you have an old gmail account. In the newest release 1.50 rev11 you cant send any emails, only receive. Maybe they are able to fix this in a future release.

Can anyone tell if With MfE the GPRS connection need to be connected all the time. If this is the case then it is not a real Push Mail, it is actually pull mail but that is done automatically by the phone. If GPRS is on all the time it will result in shorter battery life.
