Nokia E61i - Wired Editor’s Pick

Nokia E61i won the Wired's Editor's Pick award in their smartphones category of their Wired Test Winter 2008 issue.

The Nokia E61i beat out  a number of formidable competitors including Palm Treo 755P, BlackBerry 8830, Motorola Q9 etc.

Wired liked the amazing web browser, the great collection of business and media applications, and the long talk time.

Listed as what they did not like was the width of the device, the placement of the microSD slot and the lack of stereo Bluetooth.

I hate its Input Method, although it may be perfect on English input.
To people using non-Latin character language, like Chinese, it’s really pain to input with E61i, because of its shoddy built-in input method.
I’ve ever consider QWERTY as the synonym of efficient-input, since both of PALM and WM phone have impressed me about this. Yeah, E61i ‘correct’ me: why qwerty phone can’t be with week-minded input method ~

I know E61i is a smartphone, perhaps 3rd party app can do help. I just won’t to do that way.
I think input method is the basic object that the wendor should taken care of, especially when it is for a QWERTY phone.
    How you think ?

I really miss a proper data base app! Even my REALLY old Psion Revo has a great and efficient data base program. The much more powerful E61(i) has just a couple of very slow and problematic 3rd party programs - none even close to usable.

Now, since it’s supposed to be a business phone - why don’t they include a decent data base program? Can it be that hard to write one?

  7. lornness Says:

Totally agreed with you. I use E61 which is a very good smartphone in all aspects EXCEPT FOR CHINESE INPUT. (I use Boshiamy input method in PC which is a very famous and top efficient Traditional Chinese Input Method .)

The population is too small in Taiwan and Nokia never cares about people here I think.

  8. Viipottaja Says:

Ola, well, the Psion database is hailed as the best portable database app ever, so you set the bar high. But, I am always a little puzzled: what do people actually use these databases for?

  9. GinoI Says:

Is the web browser on the i the same as the E61/62?

  10. mariov Says:

    Sure it won. It rocks!!

  11. Mitch Says:

The fact that the e61i is still a very good smartphone even when they are many other newer smartphones with newer features.

    Hey guys,
I just bought a nokia E62 ( aboout two weeks ago). From the third day, I have a problem. The phone is fine if its not being used. but the moment I make a call or recieve one, after 2 minutes, the phones hangs and reboots. Tried to get it fixed at Nokia care. They reinstalled the software, or so they claimed, and said it was observed and tested fine for 4 hrs. I got the phone back and made a call on my way back, it hanged and rebooted again. Can someone help me set this right. I dont want to send my new phone to nokia back and wait for a month. as I was asked to.

I am a proud owner of E61i from last one month, I must say thet my biz life has become a lot organised due to this marvalous piece of Smartphone…Thanks a Lot.. Nokia…!
But I still think, a little enhancement on Multimedia experiance with this phone would have done a lot good to it…a Stereo Audio with good earphones…!
Hope the next Avataar of E61i would come with a full MM Capabilities…
