As much as I like themes to personalize my Nokia Eseries devices they are also a cause for the vast majority of all questions I receive to this blog. On a good day I get no questions about themes but on an average I get five questions a day. Yes, five questions per day! The questions I receive are:
"I have problems installing themes please help me" or "I get a "certificate error" message when trying to install a theme what do I do" or "I get an "certificate expired" error message when installing a theme please help"
Although this have been covered extensively in the past I guess it is still an issue.

If you try to install a theme and see the above error message "Certificate Error. Contact the application supplier" You are trying to installed an application that is not Symbian signed.
The solution is easy. Simply switch the setting in the Application Manager from "Signed only" to accept all - "Software Installation: All". You can find the application manager in the tools folder, then click on "Option" to bring up "Settings"
Another common issue is the "Expired Certificate" error. The certificate that the theme developer used may have expired. However, there is an even easier fix for this issue.

Simply set the date on your device back one year and then install the theme. After you successfully installed the theme don't forget to set the time correctly on your device.
With that being said I am now off to trawl the internet for some new great themes. If you have any themes to share with us please send them my way: Ed at "the domain of this blog".

Hello,
I was installing the java application but I get the message “Certificate Error. Contact the application supplier”. I tried to set the software installation to “All” and online certificate check to “Off” then re-install the application but error still the same. Help me…
asim….I think u need to set the date to current date, not back date…but bare in mind, not all software have the same certificate year…so be prepare to change the date according to the error you have…
but now I have the same problem with Pidro…can someone help us?
Hello!
This is how it worked for me.
1. Changing back the date to one year or more sometimes might not work.
2. The error “Certificate may not yet be valid, is expired or phone’s date setting may be incorrect” occurs WHEN you put date that is older than the software is expecting to be. To overcome this, put the date by incrementing MONTHS not years.
3. Usually the signed certificates have a range of six months. Whenever you download themes or any software either you assume when that theme or software was written or might have been signed (e.g. by checking the version of the software) and then go back in decrements of six months, NOT in years.
4. If the error still persists, check whether your desired application is “unsigned” or “signed”. Usually software name is appended by such indication. If it is an unsigned version, you cannot do much by changing dates and all.
I may not have real solution but hints out of my own experience.
