Nokia E51 Reviews
Still can't get enough about the Nokia E51? Fear not, there are a number of good reviews:

All About Symbian posted a well written and extensive overview. Equally thorough is the review by Smape, well worth reading. Eugenia has written another great piece about the Nokia E51 at OSNews. Mobile-review is as always also very detailed and complete in their coverage of the Nokia E51. PC Pro posted a preview/review and so did CNet and ZDNet.

I just ordered an E51, which should arrive later this week. I’m really looking forward to it as a replacement for my Nokia 6230, which has been my rock-solid workhorse for the past few years!

Got the phone (E51) for 3 days now and I dont have any idea how I can use the Push mail (Yahoo Mail) and IM (MSN/Yahoo Messenger) via WLAN. Do i need to buy some softwares for these programs to work onm WLAN?? According to my local service provider, I can only access IM and Push mail via WAP. I want to access it via WLAN so I don’t have to pay for GPRS usage. Is it possible??

So much for balanced comments. Where’d my long description of wifi problems go?
Don’t like negatives?

Well I guess everyone is happy but still This phone has few problems. When ever I go to a no network zone and then come back to network zone this phone gives problem and does not catch network even on searching manually. Effectively I have to re-start the phone everytime this happens while going from work to home

Is the contact id picture that shows when being called always this small??
You can hardly see it. Can’t find any option to make it full screen for instance.

Hello everybody,
Hey m here to join the group of Nokia E51 users… well, its been 2 months now and m not facing any problems as of now… if you have read the manual well then you will know that there are some cool applications ready to be downloaded from the download option in the mail root folder… It comprises of the antivirus program, maps, navigators and many more..
Uptill now was still figuring out the new’s in the phone. Its simply jsut great and works efficiently too.. have heard that there are battery problems or it getting heated but none of it I have faced.. Its pretty sturdy too. There are a number of freeware sites providing great softwares for 3rd edition softwares..
Would love to see a solution for IDB’s question about the picture being too small when a call arrives.

e51 great, biggest problem I have is battery - any one heard of a higher cap battery?
e71 does look darn good but I already carry a blackberry for work so cant see me getting it just yet

Great phone…light, super looking screen, fast OS, decent camera, looks great when not in use. Web browsing is fast, wifi works supersmooth. So many plusses.
however -
Cons - can’t find a desktop cradle charger for it. CALENDAR sucks, and the alternatives arent much better (handycalendar blows, aquacalendar is made by Russians who cant quite get the USbased way of looking at the world, and papyrus looks iffy. Worst of all, not one of these calendar programs understands the concept of floating events (tasks with a set time, that float from one day to the next if not completed.) DATEBK6 for PalmOS kicks the crap out of these - if S60 had a good calendar program, Id be so happy. But because of that Im not really happy at all. sigh….

Got a nice little problem for you guys to solve so here goes….
I purchased a new E51 and transfered contacts from my nokia 6500 classic onto it. The problem is that whenever I receive a sms from a person who is already on my contact list, it does not disply their name. Just the phone number… Any solutions ????
April 8th, 2008 at 8:04 am
@Tony
Double check your list. That usually happens when you the same number in two different contacts.
Try and check it too if all your contacts have been transfered well. When I transfered files and contacts from my 6300, all my contacts that had images with them were not transferred to my e51. HTH

I ordered a E51 from the internet to replace my 6230, and It is an awesome phone except for the 3G. All I really wanted was a 3G version of my 6230, but no one has released anything even close. After I received my E51 I discovered that is doesn’t support the 3G network provided by AT&T in my area. I called Nokia and they said they will be releasing a US version of the E51, but I’m not going to hold my breath, the website has said “Coming Soon” for months now.
So the E51 is back in the mail and I’m hoping to find a replacement.

Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone. I have been using my E51 for a couple months now. I transfered my contacts from my E50. I have one problem. When I receive a call, only the seven digit number shows up and not the name as it is stored in the memory. Any suggestions on how to solve this????
May 5th, 2008 at 1:07 am
I wonder if there’s any way to display contacts by Name + Number.
I was able to do this on most of my previous Nokia sets but cannot find any way of doing this on my E51.
Any one got a solution?
p.s I’ve had no other issues with the set so far, WLAN issue, contact name not shown;Battery problem and others mentioned by other users; none of them happened to me.
May 7th, 2008 at 6:00 am
Tony, check for duplicate entries of the same phone number.
May 20th, 2008 at 5:17 am
hi everybody,
Nokia e51 is good but editing picture recive throuh the mail is a problem.
June 14th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
It’s a GREAT Phone indeed! But with some serious shortcomings! Hope with its next upgrade Nokia will address and improve the things. The most notable areas to be improved are: the screen is too SMALL for a enterprise device, it should be made at least 2.4 inches; the camera should be made better with 3.2 mp, auto focus and flash, of the standard of N73; the Quick Office should have editing facility.
Come on Nokia, plz act fast and make next upgrade of E51 the ultimale killer device!!

I have a problem with my AT&T service where I cannot receive international SMS. I can send/receive domestic SMS, send international SMS, and receive international calls, but cannot receive international SMS.
I am sure that the sender in Australia has good service because another AT&T account can receive their texts just fine, but my e51 is having this issue. Any ideas?

can someone tell me what the difference between Nokia E51-1 Nokia and E51-2?
August 24th, 2008 at 11:21 am
E51-2 does not have the camera. As far as I can tell, the 1 vs 2 designation is not as it is with the E71. For that phone, the 1 version is the original, and the 2 version is the North American version which has better access capabilities to US hi speed networks.
