Quite a few readers have contacted me regarding problems installing applications on their Nokia E61. When installing <insert application name here> they get the following error message “Certificate Error contact the application supplier”. I have previously written about this in the comments section and in the FAQ but it is probably good to highlight it again.
For added protection against “malware” there is rather strict application signing procedure implemented for S60 3rd edition. The device comes with the standard setting to check for proper signatures and will not install applications unless they are correctly signed. Although the intention behind mandatory application signing is good it locks out applications that for some reason are not signed and approved. To accept all applications and solve this issue:Go to Tools > App. mgr > Options > Settings Change “software installation” from “Signed Only” to “All” and “Onlline certic check” to “off”. ![]()
This will most likely solve your problem regarding installing unsigned application. However, please be aware that you turned off one extra layer of security for the device. Your IT department might not approve of this. I normally don't worry too much about malware or viruses but it is a good role of thumb to only download and install applications from known sources.
Update: I've created a separate post for how to solve the "Certificate Error" on the Nokia E62.

i have problem while opening adobe reader to nokia e50,
even i cant replace or install new reader it is showing that”Unable to install component is built in ”

Hi, I had a problem for 2 days with “Invalid Certificate” and I followed the steps in this blog i.e. Accept all………This site is now at the top of my fav’s
Thank’s guys
Superb!!
I’m afraid I’m in the same boat as Jatin Dhamija, Pc Paul, and aizen, where I changed both the certificate check setting to ‘off’ and the accept software to ‘all’ but am still getting a certificate error… error. Any more ideas?
p.s:Balagopal, I’m guessing but could be wrong, that your problem is that the .sis files you’re attempting to install are for Symbian S60 2nd edition. If so, they’re useless for the 3rd edition OS and can’t be converted. Sorry!
p.p.s: Admin Ed, I admire your patience in answering the ‘expired/outdated certificate” question SO many times! People just don’t seem to read anymore…

Hello Admin,
My company is using Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and i just configured mail for exchange for my bosses. the problem i am having is that i can synchronize mail internally but if i make any attempt to replace the name of my mail server with the published website name for my mail server, my configuration will not work. i get an “untrusted certificate received from server, contact your administrator”. i have tried all you recommended in your post but they don’t seems to work for me. please can anyone advise. one more thing, the certificate i use for publishing is not a third party certificate, it is a Windows certificate that i created on my own but i also use this certificate for my OWA and Outlook anywhere and it works just fine. pls help!!!!

Hello ALL, while updating the firmware of my Nokia E61 (1st time I do this), I have accidentally disconnected the USB cable. The phone does not start anymore, only the light on the top left corner turns on and stays on. My PC no longer recognises it and it does not show up in PC Suite. Can anyone suggest how I can repair/reinstall the OS?
Thanks in advance. Ito (Spain)
Hello everybody! I have Nokia N73 and I have a problem installing themes. I never had this problem before. One day about a month ago it just simply stopped. I did everything from above and it still won’t work. I’m able to install other applications and games. Any suggestions?
I did the certificates thing a long time ago but now sometimes i get “Expired Certificate”, “Unable To Install”, or “Error: Certificate Expired, Certificate May Not Be Valid Yet, Or Problem With File, Contact Your Supplier” or some things like that, i know its because of the dates but its very uncool to have to change the date setting over and over again just to install a theme
Hi,
I have a Nokia E61i and i get this error message all the time - “This site has sent un untrusted certificate. Continue anyway?” It seems to happen really at random. I’m not even trying to install anything. I already defaulted the settings to Solftware Installation = All and Check Online Certificates = Off, and i still get it. I think it’s because of my Mail for Exchange (currently, that’s the only mail i have on my phone, so it must be it).
Please help!
I apologize if the answer is already posted on this page but i somehow overlooked it.
Thanks!
Maria

HI
i hv E61i , i cant install “FExplorer” on it, even i allow unsigned application in application manager, plz help..
Hi Tan,
Can you install other applications or is this problem just with this application? Try downloading a new copy of the application and see it it works. Also, try to install another application to confirm that you really have set the application manager to accept “All”.
I have just updated my e61i with the version that support chinese language, previously was english and b. Indonesia. Something happened with themes i installed. If the theme is installed in the memory card, each time i restart the phone, it will be back to default ‘nokia’ theme. Once a time, after restarting my phone, with the theme still in ‘nokia’ theme, after i disconnected my e61i with my pc in data transfer mode, i got another surprise that my phone got back to theme i applied before i occassionally restarting the phone. Could anybody tell me what is happenning and how to make the memory card-installed theme become permanently applied in the phone even i restarting it. Fyi, the themes that i chose to install in phone memory is still applied even i restart the phone.
Another thing i got when i am typing this using notes in the phone. The cursor could not move to the upper row after reaching the starting point of each row, even i type/click the left direction button. But it does back to the beginning point of the first row when i type/click the right direction button when i am in the end of the typing. Up and down button are also fuction normally. Is this a bug? Kevin
Hi,
I have tried all options since 2 months to install Yahoo Go 2.0 or 3.0 on E61, including ALL and OFF, contact yahoo help, who also could not really help. Only option left is hard reset. Question is what data do i lose? I have backup on my PC for the contacts and calender. I believe i lose applications like Acrobat, etc. which i can re install. But would i have to re install the Operating System as well?
Also how do i do the hard reset?
Thanks
