For anyone who is still struggling with this try downloading the full chain of self-signed certficates (I had two to download to my e61) and use the domain name for the server rather than ip address (the latter worked under earlier versions and worked w/o SSL but not w/ SSL). These two steps were what finally fixed my protracted SSL email problems with M4E. Techai I just got SSL working again on my e61 on m4e 2.1 after the certificate changes in that versions.
