Yahoo! Go 3.0 - Sluggish
OK, I'm not a big fan of Yahoo! but I'm still interested in what they are doing on the mobile front. When I read about the announcement of Yahoo! Go 3.0 (Beta) with support for Widgets I naturally wanted to take it for a spin.
I logged on to get.go.yahoo.com from my mobile browser on my Nokia E61i only to find out that Nokia E61i is not one of the supported devices for Yahoo! Go 3.0

Well, well. Perhaps other Eseries devices are supported. I tried my Nokia E51 and to my pleasant surprise there was no message about E51 not being supported. On the other hand, there was no message about Yahoo! Go 3.0.
Not letting that stop me I go ahead and click download only to see an error message saying that my phone is not supported…
Hmm, just one screen earlier Nokia E51 was listed as a supported device. Yahoo! stop teasing me and make Yahoo! Go 3.0 available for Eseries.
Until then there is always Yahoo! Go 2.0 which I covered here.
Update: A kind reader pointed out that Yahoo! Go 3.0 supports Nokia E65. It does. I successfully downloaded and installed Yahoo! Go on my Nokia E65.
I am trying to be fair here since I have only used Yahoo! Go 3.0 for a short while and on top of that it is still in beta… OK, let's start with the good things first. Yahoo! Go 3.0 is beautiful. The visuals are stunning. Amazing looking icons and a very sleek look and feel. The application is also more customizable than before.
However, beauty with no brains only goes so far. This application is even more sluggish than the previous version of Yahoo! Go. Unless your equipped with an endless supply of patience or willing to trade of usability and speed over looks I would not recommend upgrading to Yahoo! Go 3.0.
I hope Yahoo! miraculously and dramatically can improve the speed of Yahoo! Go 3.0 beta - until then, I'll pass.

I dont expect that Yahoo! Go 3 will be as fast as Gmail apps, since it is a fully featured application. however, m.yahoo.com is much faster than Yahoo! Go 2.
meanwhile, Opera Mini works better

I just hope 3.0 isn’t as sluggish as 2.0 was. That was a major put off. Plus, I didn’t like the fact that I HAD to have all the services on there… I really only wanted mail and news, yet I was forced to have all the other “junk” too! Unfortunately, personalizing in such a manner does not seem to be an issue in 3.0 either.

Sorry, by “not an issue”, I mean “not possible.”

Does not seem to work on E90 either.

I dont like Yahoo Go , It has no IM Chat Client Function

I’ve been using yahoo 2.0 for a few weeks, but I am not a bit fan of it - too slow, too much graphics, little text.
anyway, I am moving away from yahoo - I want something w/ imap
January 12th, 2008 at 3:16 am
Hmm that’s weird. Am I the only one that’ll say Yahoo Go 3.0 is faster than 2.0? BTW I’m using E65.
January 13th, 2008 at 9:25 am
It does work on the E90 and any other phone with a 240×320 screen resolution. The trick is to fool the Yahoo web site into thinking that you’re browsing from an N95 (or any other supported phone). See my post here:
That said, I agree that there is very little point in even trying it. It might be OK on a low-end dumbphone that does not have a proper email client and web browser but on an S60 handset, it’s completely worthless. Sluggish, cluttered and doesn’t bring anything new.

For some reason, I can’t post a URL. Remove the spaces in the following and it should work:

I installed Yahoo Go! 2.0 on my E65, and I’ve never been able to get it to run on WLAN.
Is it impossible? Or are there certain steps I need to take?
If anyone could help me out, it’d be great. Thanks.

So sad its very slow on my E61… Still in V2 for E61…
Ed, whats your say on the news of the Nokia E71/LIAM thats flying over the internet lately?

Yahoo! Go really sucks… 2.0 was terrible and I’m sure 3.0 will be just as bloated. Google’s GMAIL and Google Maps clearly show what a portal provide CAN do.
Love the fact that MS has an IM client for Symbian - e.g. on a competitors OS yet Yahoo! who is trying to catch onto what consumers want has NO Symbian support for IM…
Played around with Google on an iPhone today and it seems that Google gets Mobile. Sure we don’t have that level of support on Symbian but at least the standard HTML Google pages work OK.
Yahoo! Mobile ( m.yahoo.com ) is more in tune with a mobile phone WAP experience NOT mobile HTML optimized at all.

i can’t install it on my E51…

Any idea when Yahoo Go 2.0 (or 3.0) will be available for the E51?
February 11th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Y! Go 3.0 Beta now available for the E61i.
Sluggish but I like the new widgets, but only three available so far.

The Yahoo Go 3.0 for E61i is on beta… yo can download now!

I install third version on my E61 and to be honest, first, it’s block my phone, than after i restart it, it’s crash it again.
After third time, i application just shut down itself.
Fourth time, it just start and begin to work flawlessly. Like nothing happened before.)
In my opinion, it’s faster than V2.0 and never gets stuck like v2.0 was!
I tried iPhone, it’s UI is shiny and nice, but I like my E61 and yahoo allows me to easily have push mail. I’m a freelance designer and photographer, so I don’t have enterprise to setup my account and it’s really suits me perfectly.
I also have Gmail application, which is little faster than yahoo version, but yahoo has all those bells & whistles, so I guess, it’s a price we must pay.
I hope that next iteration of E61 will have faster CPU, thus all programs will run faster!
FYI, I have 1GB Transcend mini SD mem. card and 9mb free phone memory.

I have it on my Nokia N95 ,
Yahoo Go 3 is the worse ever .
i went back to the old one 2.0 .
much faster and stable .
April 8th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
It works fine on E51
i found it fast and easy use
much more powerful that what google apps have today.
of course it is ALL IN ONE app.
i am sure some of us will dislike it
but there are few like me who dislike to use 10 different apps for services from ONE single service provider.
It is better to have all their service together under one roof (app)
well as anything in this world
there are few hate it and few like it

Hi there,
I have just installed Yahoo! Go 2.00 on my E5o, and it’s working fast and flawlessly so far. But my issue is that I receive a lot of .doc and/or .pdf attachments, and have to work on them on my PC, but so far I haven’t been able to find anything that would help downloading attachments to either my mobile or my PC via Yahoo! Go. Yahoo! Go displays these attachments in text form only, and has no option to download them to the mobile. MOreover, I haven’t been able to view all .pdf files. Only those .pdf files, which have been converted from word documents get displayed, those .pdf files, which were made from scanned images, do not get displayed.
Is it possible to download .doc or .pdf or any other attachments from Yahoo! Go to your mobile [and/or PC]. Looking forward to your precious feedback.
Regards
Catherine
