Nokia E51 Firmware Update - Check!
Wow - I'm finding that there are a lot of new (for me at least) firmware updates available for Nokia's Eseries devices. I just updated my Nokia E51.
As always, don't forget to back-up the data on your device before upgrading.
There is no official news on the Nokia Software Update page about the slew of firmware upgrades for the Eseries so it is hard to know exactly what was updated.
I expect the official page to be updated with information over the next day or so.
Thanks to the excellent site Symbian Guru for the tip

Any improvement on the camera or the web browser? No changelog?
May 30th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Sorry guys - I haven’t found a change log yet. Anyone has one?

What about the E61? Has it become a dinosaur now?
May 31st, 2008 at 1:55 am
As for changelog there is none yet. But it seems that there has been no FL3 support added which is very odd and, well, disappointing.
I feel like nokia is focused on N series (especially N95) and does not give a crap about E series… I mean look at this - first firmware update available for e51, all the new technologies, including FL3 for example, available and ready to put inside and nothing! This seems like a sad joke nokia…

when the E-51 free-camera will be released ?
May 31st, 2008 at 2:26 pm
not sure if it was just a bad monday -setup (on saturday), but my e51 crashed totally with the new firmware… back up restore didn’t work out etc. lucky i could save the calendar and contacts. but lost 90% of all installed programs.
so double-check whether you need to upgrade… although it’s fun to put all up again

Since the new firmware my E51 has the following problem. When connected to computer by usb lead in pc suite mode and I make a call the volume changes by itself to zero, sometimes it does it by itself and other times by pressing the down volume once. Try and see if I am alone!
Does not happen luckily when usb not connected!

HI Ed!
Nice to see you are back. I tried updating my E51 bought in India, but it says, there is no new firmware available for my phone. Has anyone else faced the same?
Is it available only for select phones?
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:38 am
After reporting my problem above saying that with the new firmware the volume goes to zero by itself I discover it’s a bug with pc suite 6.85, now I have got 6.86 working after a lot of hassle I no longer have this problem.

I got an E51 with firmware version 100.x.x and when i go online it does not show the 200.x version. My phone was also purchased from India. Is there any particular reason for the control of the firmware only for selected countries? as the phone is supposed to the same with no regional differences.
June 23rd, 2008 at 10:14 pm

does anyone else have major battery problems with their e51?
i use bluetooth to listen to music throuhg the music player application, and my battery just disappears. even when i’m not listening to music and have very few apps running, the battery life is terrible. if you have 3 10min conversations, it’s almost gone.
i’ve even bought a spare battery which i carry around with me now, so i can replace th dead one.
does anyone else have the same issues?
thanks,
tom
