Great news - and great to see you back and running. One question - I saw one site mention that E71 will have region specific HSDPA capability. Can anyone confire that a US variant - hopefully not tied to a carrier - will be available at some poiny? Thanks.

Cant wait to get my hands on the E71, my E61i needs some rest now.

Hi Nick,
According to the data sheet the supported frequencies for E71 are as follows:
WCDMA 850/2100, WCDMA 900/2100
WCDMA 850/1900, HSDPA,
GSM/EGSM 850/900/1800/1900
Hi Fawaz,
I second that. I love the new form factor, the slimmer (less wide) Nokia E71.

If this is anything to go by, it appears the NA version will be in white, and the EU one in black:

Great to hear about the E71. Only aspects I did not like
-No USB charging (my BB supports that)
-2.5mm headphone jack
Does anyone know whick version of S60 it will be based on?

I dont think nokia would force a certain color of the E71 in either europe or north america, they might force it to branded phones for at&t,vodafon..etc, especially the white one for NA,i cant imagine the sales would be high because consumers know that now they have alternative option in the case of colors, that wasnt an option with the E61/62 or the E61i.

I was thinking the same thing, Fawaz.
But that site threw me off a little - let’s see how it pans out.
Damn its a sweeeet phone…

Hey Amit, its symbian os 9.2 feature pack 1
June 16th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
excellent news!! I can’t wait to get my hands on the E71 ..the spec looks great and the sounds of a 8gb memory card is very appealing

I can tell you in Italy TIM will sell both the black and the white (turns out I like this the most…) version.
June 16th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Has it been a year already?
One question, though: How come Nokia can’t (or won’t) build tri-band 3G handsets like HTC does?
June 16th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
My e62 has a 2.8” screen. Why reduce it to 2.36”?
June 16th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
I wonder how the email client will be. I was and still am very disappointed by the E61i’s client. Not being able to do anything while sending/checking email is kinda 2000!
I’ve never used an FP1 phone, so hopefully this issue was sorted out then.
If not, N96 anyone?! o_O

Hi DiOn,
the e-mail client works perfeclty on E61i.
Just hold the “menu” or “home” button (right besides contacts) and it will pop you back to other phone functionalities while your e-mail remains open. Iit works very well for a mobbilephone based e-mail service. Even IMAP.

Does anyone know if the E71 will work with GoodLink like the E61i does? I’ve seen conflicting reports. Crave is saying it won’t even work with BB Connect…..
Thanks.
June 16th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Don’t think it will work with Goodlink or BB Connect.
June 16th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Good phone, but with many shortcomings! Poor multimedea, Feature Pack 1 (not 2!). Much inferior to my expectation! And hinted price is also on higher side considering what is being actually offered. Waiting for more information and user review.

I’m waiting for a camera-free version of the E71… Please Nokia, Business fones without camera are required in India also…. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE…

Hey you E-series gurus, a question concerning the orientation/acceleration sensor:
Is it left out of E71?
June 17th, 2008 at 3:36 am
But no gullwing formfactor ;-(
June 17th, 2008 at 9:56 am
Can someone tell me if the E71 has a touch screen with stylus? This was a big lacking in my E61. If I want to delete a bunch of SMS or E-mail, its a pain to open every single one and delete it.
Also, the E61 firmware did not let you to automagically switch over Wi-Fi points, not sure if this is fixed in E71 either.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:10 am
This is perhaps the most awaited phone for the year! Its gonna knock Nokia’s sales off for sure! The E61i was already a great device, and now its just got better! White or grey steel, both are classy… I’m definitely gunning for white though. Hope it reaches Asia soon!

Anyone know for sure if it will support Blackberry Connect?? I saw conflicting reports.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:43 am
I read somewhere Nokia still working on the agreements with RIM for bb connect, still no word for that.

@Naga,
Here is how to quickly delete multiple messages at once:

@BC
I haven’t heard anything about BlackBerrry Connect support. You should try out MfE, many companies with BB BES servers also open up support for Exchange ActiveSync.
Cheers
Ed

Hey naga,E71 has no touch screen but have you tried to mark your sms;emails with the shift button or from the options menu? for the wifi theres couple of applications can be helpful in your case they’re devicescape and hotspot finder

I have a Nokia e61i whis is sooooo slow. Does anybody know if Nokia improved the speed of the UI for E71?? This is very serious concern and something which keeps me thinking of going back to the Blackberry camp.
June 17th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Rats, No BB Connect means no support from my Company. The data charges for The Mail For Exchange trial we did was nuts - it seemed to be pinging the server so much. At least with BB Connect, most carriers have a flat rate international roaming option for BB data - this makes our roaming use predictable. With Mail for Exchange our data charges when roaming are as per standard data roaming rates which is a rip-off.
I’m hoping BB Connect shows up and just wasn’t in the original launch info. Our IT guys ironically are more open to deploying iPhones with the 2.0 firmware direct Exchange support and the admin tools to control device wipe, etc.

Do you guys know that the new E Series phone will not have the Blackberry client available to install like the older models (E61). The main reason I love my E61 is because I can use it with my corporate email server to access my email. This totally blows and Nokia will not gain any new customers if it does not offer the blackberry client.
“The new phones do not include Blackberry service, included on all of Nokia’s previous corporate phones”

In relation to Jinda’s questions; is this an Arm 11 Dual core or still an Arm 9 device?
June 17th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
So, Mr. Admin,
IPHONE 3G or E 71-2?
I had plenty of reasons to stick with Nokia but the
new 3G version Iphone has answered all the problems.
Why stick with Nokia?
Currently rocking a gullwing E70-2
June 18th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Hi Lino,
Correct, I am able to go to other phone functions, while the email is sending. But (I guess), unless I disable the “send immediately” option, I will not be able to continue typing another email until the first is sent.
I often run into this problem, as my EDGE network can be sketchy while in buildings, even if I’m close to a window!

I am not very pleased with the design on the E71. Blackberry design is not my style. I was expecting another gullwing. I love my E70 and was looking forward to replacing it with a device with 3 times the RAM but with similar design. I guess the gullwing is extinct :(. Shame really :(.
June 26th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Can’t wait to get the E71. Its out here in Malaysia already. But will hold off until I can get the plug in for isync. Have everything synched with my MAC for my E61i. That’s the only thing holding me back. At the moment, no news from the apple site yet.
July 5th, 2008 at 5:09 am
Well, have tried every version of BB connect and is true. This device will not support the Blackberry client. So much for being competition for the BOLD. If you still need Blackberry Business connectivity, then sorry to say it, but stick with the BOLD.

Omg i saw the E71 today and it looked really cool, no matter what you see in reviews, the device is so small and “cute” its on sale here in jordan for 450 jds= 635$ my E61i is afraid now of getting replaced :q
