Mail for Exchange - Update MfE 2.5.3
Nokia’s industrious team behind Mail for Exchange has released yet another version of Mail for Exchange.
The new version Mail for Exchange 2.5.3 introduces support for the two new Nokia Eseries devices; Nokia E66 and Nokia E71 as well as fixes two bugs.
From the release notes:
Error Correction:
- Exchange 2007: The Mail for Exchange 2.5.0 release had an error synchronizing against an Exchange 2007 server without Service Pack 1. This error has been corrected.
- Mail for Exchange language: After Mail for Exchange is installed the application is launched automatically. For that first launch the language used was always English in the 2.5.0 release. Now Mail for Exchange will always show the proper language.
The new version can be download HERE.

Does anyone know if folder support is on the list of future upgrades? I currently use a 6121 classic so my only option is Roadsync (which does folders) but I am in the market for an E series device and far prefer Mail for Exchange. At this stage the plan is to run MfE as the primary push client and then fire up Roadsync as required for folder access, not ideal
Thanks.

Hmm, I can’t seem to install this on my E51. The installation progress bar makes it through about halfway, then inexplicably a window pops up informing me that the installation was canceled, with no other information.
No idea?
Firmware is the latest 200.34.36, as well. Oh well, guess I’ll live with 2.05.

Dave,
I have similar problems and get the same error message. I can’t install this version on my E61i.
I’ll give this another try tomorrow.
Cheers
Ed

Good to know I’m not alone! I’ll check back to see if anybody figures out what the issue might be (though admittedly, the changes don’t seem to affect me much, if at all).
Ever since I started using Mail for Exchange it’s really made me want an e-series device with a full qwerty pad… now that the E71 is starting to make it’s way over here I’m probably going to be $430 poorer.
iPhones and Blackberries just don’t do it for me.

After years of having nothing but Nokia with my last two phones being the E61 and then the E61i I’ve finally decided to give Blackberry a go. I have always been a very strong supporter of Nokia and very dismissive of Blackberry, but I have to say, I don’t know if I will be giving it up for an E71 after my months trial unless there are some significant improvements to S60.

Is there anyone that has been able to get 2.5.x to work with a 6220 Classic? I can sync everything but email. As soon as I select email and then hit save I get “System error! Try again later”. This is even before it has tried connecting to exchange.

the E51 version is working fine on my E66, haven’t had any problems at all, push works fine.
not bothering to upgrade to the E66 version as it’s working fine as is.

Can you sync a calendar or anything else? Make sure your Connection settings are correct in MfE -> Edit Profile -> Connection, as well as Credentials.

For all those who didn’t manage to install it: do you happen to have Blackberry Connect installed? If yes try to install the upgrade after having removed it. The two programs don’t seem to get along too well…

I’ve used MFE on my E61 for a long time and never had any issues until new version came last week or so (not this 2.5.3, but 2.5.0).
Uninstalled the old version, installed the 2.5.0 and all i get is System errors just like describe above. Tried several time re-installing without success. Installation goes well and after initial profile is created with logins etc all attempts of starting MFE result in System Error, Try again later.
Doing system restore wasnt an option atm so I went back to running intellisync instead
I like mfe better because of its simplicity in past and direct contact via owa, but guess its over now :p

admin,
I’m using E61i, too. I choosed ‘replace’ to directly upgrade to the ver.2.5.3 from 2.5.0, and no problem occurred.
I noticed that M4E currently is distributed as several version: for fp1, fp2..etc. Probably it’s the problem you encountered.

Mail for Exchange update: v2.5.3…
Niet zo lang na de toch wel belangrijke update van Mail for Exchange is het alweer tijd voor een nieuwe versie. Dit keer niet een heel erg grote update.
In deze versie worden twee bugs verholpen:
Exchange 2007: The Mail for Exchange 2…

zsh,
I managed to get it to run when I disabled email sync. Then I could successfully sync contacts and calendar. Unfortunately email is my main reason for installing it so I guess we’ll have to wait for the next version as something seems to be broken.

For everyone who gets half way with the install and then gets the message “installation canceled”. I received the same massage on an e61 and e61i. I had the uninstall MfE before I could update to the new version. I still don’t have the new features working, no flags and no out of office even with exchange 2007. Just waiting for the e71 and a fresh new start!

Works fine with z-push ( svn version ).
Thank you

Dan: Thanks for confirming that I am not the only one.
However I got bit tired of e61 (have the original version, no e61i) and it was time to move on. Ordered e71 yesterday and I should receive it today. Hope it will be good replacement for e61
July 1st, 2008 at 1:33 am
Where did you order it from? I look forward to hearing your feedback on it!
July 1st, 2008 at 1:50 am
Hi.
Ordered it from Swedish distributor (since I live in sweden). http://www.dustinhome.se
Btw, I think I’ll snap soon
Just got e71, installed Mail for Exchange through the “Catalogues” on the phone (it downloads it automatically) and same ****** error is there on e71. System Error, try again later.
Phone is brand new with no weird settings or anything…had it powered on for like 10 minutes……*sigh*
July 1st, 2008 at 2:34 am
btw, same error as Dan described above.
It works OK for Calendar, Contact sync. But as soon as you enable e-mail sync System Error message starts showing up
July 1st, 2008 at 4:37 am
we had the same error as above, but switching from Swedish to English solved the problem. try that.

Same problem here.
New E71. Also receive “System error”.
I even have a hard time saving the profile.
Very irrational program.
Have been using MFE for a long time on other phones. But this is the firt one with these problems.
Tried 2.5.3 on E51 answell. Same result there.
Anyone got any more info about this or at least know where we can download older versions of MFE?
July 1st, 2008 at 6:18 am
Nevermind…managed to download 2.3.0 and now everything is working ok again
July 1st, 2008 at 9:23 am
zsh
Could you please provide us with a link where we can download 2.3.0?
Thanks!

I’ve had issues with both Mfe 2.5 and 2.5.3. We are using exchange 2007 and the new features don’t work on my e61. It also seemed to cause other minor things to stop working. I did a hard reset and the things that didn’t work with 2.5 worked again. Installed mfe 2.5.3 again and the little things stopped working again. For example, the options button in the calendar no longer works when in the day view, The options button no longer works with looking at pics in the media folder. Just strange little stuff like that. With mfe 2.0 they work fine.
BUT..it doesn’t matter anymore! I received my e71 on Tuesday and I am in the process of setting it up today! It is soooo darn great I can hardly believe it, and the best part is, unlike the last time I wrote about the e71, this time I really do have it. Found it online from a place called cti-miami. I think I paid like 30 bucks more than the Nokia site will sell it for but I have it now. I don’t know where this cti-miami outfit got them from and I was a little concerned about giving them my cc number but they came through.
July 2nd, 2008 at 11:23 am
Trouble in Paradise! I think I know where cti-miami got these e71s. They seem to be European e71s. I am hearing that there are two versions of the e71, one for US and one for elsewhere. The European version will not work on the AT&T 3G network. Does anyone know if this is true?
July 2nd, 2008 at 1:41 pm
I have discovered there are indeed two versions of the e71. Beware, the websites selling the e71 in the US are selling the European version - it will not work on the US AT&T 3G network.
It is on it’s way back to Miami. However….having hand my hands on this beauty I now really can’t wait for the US version. It seems so tiny ( smaller then a lot of the phones that are just “phones”)yet the screen is plenty big enough and typing is a breeze. It is lighting fast, much faster than the e61 or e61i. There looks to be a bit of a learning curve as the keyboard is layed out a little different but maybe not so much a the US version. I did not get to trying the “modes” or a few of the other new things but the phone looks great just sitting on a table. It does mark with finger prints pretty easy but that is a very small price to pay for this great phone. I have read some reviews that said the screen image is not as crisp but in my little time with it I didn’t think it was noticeable. Anyone have ANY idea when Nokia will release in the US?

Anyone know where I can download MfE 2.3.0?
July 6th, 2008 at 10:02 am
zsh,
where did you find 2.3 Post a link if you can please.
July 8th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
I was on the Nokia Business Download site getting the latest for my N95 and noticed that there is a new version (2.5.5) that is supposed to fix problems for Swedish users.
July 8th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Thanks for the tip KJ!
July 8th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
I just got a E71 and installed and MfE 2.3….. however after setting it is not able to sync with my Exchange 2003 Server …… it returns “Error with Exchange. Try again later”………
I previously had an older version of MfE on E61 and it worked fine…..
anyone knows if there is any compatibility issues or problems?
July 9th, 2008 at 12:31 am
I have used automatic period block for a while. So the phone automatically block and only when you use a pincode it’s possible to unblock the phone and use it. This function you can find with Settings - Security - Telephone and SIM - Automatic period block.
I also used MfE version 2.2.0. Everything worked fine until I wanted to unblock this function. It wasn’t possible to unblock this function in any way.
Nokia Support advised to update my phone software to version 3.0633.69.00. After the update the function was finally turned off.
I downloaded MfE 2.5.3, but when I was configuring my MfE account suddenly the block-function was turned on from itself. I had to insert the pincode to unblock my phone and from that moment it wasn’t possible to turn this function off again.
Does anybody know it there are any problems with version 2.5.3 of MfE and automatic period block on a nokia E65?
July 9th, 2008 at 4:13 am
kj,
thanks. That solved my problems.
July 10th, 2008 at 8:33 am
I installed version 2.2.0 of MfE, after I’ve done a reset back to factory settings. And the block was gone for two days, then I installed MfE and right after I configured my profile the automatic period block turned on again from itselfs!! Is there anybody who can help me?
