Nokia Announces Nokia Chat
Nokia has released Nokia Chat, an IM application on steroids.
Nokia Chat is an IM application which lets you share your status and your geographical location with your friends.
Nokia Chat is based on XMPP/Jabber the open standard IM protocol behind Google Talk and a number of other IM communities. This makes Nokia Chat compatible/interoperable with Google Talk and other Jabber based communities.
In order to use the client you need to use your Nokia Account. If you don’t have a Nokia Account you can easily set one up from the application.
There are a number of feature I really like with the application:
- Handover between WLAN and GPRS
- Easy set up of both application and the Nokia account
- Ability to indicate physical location through “send location”
- Beautiful emoticons, see below.
Most of my friends are on Jabber networks so I have no problems connecting to friends on other IM communities. However, one limitation with the current version of the application is that Yahoo! IM, AIM and MSN is not supported.
Why doesn’t Yahoo!, Microsoft and AOL embrace XMPP/Jabber - sigh.

Just a small note:
you really need Internet Services Support Package 1.05, I had 1.01 installed and Chat didn’t want to start at all
Regards
Evgeni, annoyed by the fact one can’t use another XMPP server…

I’m a Nokia E51 user and you have clearly mentioned that this software is compatible with this device. but when i try to install the “Nokia_Internet_Services_Support_Package_1.05″ clashes with the “Nokia_Internet_Services_Support_Package_1.01″. I tried deleting it manually but that didn’t work either. can you please help? formatting the memory card will solve the problem but i cannot do so because there are some applications i cannot delete because they cost me alot do download them. so i would be really thankful if you guys at can offer me a proper solution.
thanks.

Hey man i was wondering what the theme you’ve been using on your presentation, if you have a link for it that would be great, thanks
July 11th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
@ Tommi,
Say hi to Philip for me.
Good to hear from you again
@ Ellan,
It works over any data connection (GPRS/WLAN etc.) so it is not dependent on SMS.
@ Fawaz
photos and a post is under way.
That’s “Dark” one of the official themes loaded with the NEW E71, yes, I got one
However, there is a similar looking theme here:

To FAWAZ or ADMIN:
I cannot delete or replace the “Internet Services Support Package 1.01″ in my Nokia E51 in order to install Nokia Chat which requires “Internet Services Support Package 1.05″. Please offer me a solution…Thanks in advance…

@winura, i think happened with me once but im not sure if its going to work..
Here it goes, switch off your device and switch on,without going to contacts,(i noticed when i went to contacts the package couldnt be uninstalled),and dont run the application you installed with that package as well, just go to application manager as soon as your device is on and remove the package, this worked for me the other time, hope its usefull for you.

Confirmed: does NOT work with E61
I thought this would be to ALL Nokia 9.x Symbian phones, but not. Too bad Nokia does not care 4 ppl with older phones.
July 12th, 2008 at 9:17 am
@ FAWAZ, thanks a lot. it did the trick. this application works well with nokia E51.
July 12th, 2008 at 10:43 am
You’re most welcome winura,glad i could help
July 14th, 2008 at 6:34 am
Am I the only one that thinks this would be great if integrated into the S60 OS as a whole? meaning add this as another great feature in addition to the Nokia Conversations app and make the whole experience greater but integrating all of these things.
July 15th, 2008 at 3:55 am
Anyone who tried it on the E61?? I dont wanna make mess of the already slow fone. Its showing lots off errors these days after I installed Nokia E-mail….
July 15th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
I tried installing on my E61i and no go…the support package installs fine and so does the app but the app will not start. It will be listed in your apps folder but will have no icon.
Hopefully they will resolve this issue soon.
Currently I am able to use the built in IM app with mobjab.com

Yo Ed. You owe the community at least a write up about Nokia Email service. You’re the email king for Eseries. It doesn’t get better than that!! Get crackin and come out of retirement! Encore!
