Firmware Updates

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

I've been so busy that I completely missed the firmware updates that were released over the past few weeks. Thanks to everyone who pointed this out for me. New, well…new to me at least ;-) are firmware upgrades for the Nokia E60 and Nokia E50.

Yesterday I finally had some time over so I downloaded the latest version of Nokia Software Updater, connected my Nokia E60 and had a cup of tea while Nokia Software Updater worked its charm.

Can’t Get You Out Of My Head (Black Nokia E50)

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

OK. I admit. I am more obsessive than most but I still want my Black Nokia E50.

It’s been more than two months since I first laid eyes on the Black Nokia E50 but I still can’t get you out of my head.

Since I cannot possibly justify buying another Eseries at this point I found an alternative solution. (more…)

Family Pictures - Nokia Eseries Pr0n

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

The December holidays are about family and getting together. Thanks to a friend of mine I managed to briefly collect all Eseries devices for a gratuitous photo shoot. Here they all are - Nokia E50, E60, E61, E62 and the E70.

I Want One

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

I absolutely, positively, cannot justify buying this one since I already have the Nokia E50 but in another colour. However, that doesn't stop me from drooling over the beautiful black Nokia E50. Why is it that gadgets in black colour look so much better Undecided

While on the topic of Nokia E50, Nico wrote a good review of the device here

Nokia E50 Revisited

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

Although I have written about the Nokia E50 before I feel that it wasn’t a “review” of the device. Like so many of my posts it was more a photo exposé than anything else. To make things right I asked Asri from the excellent site i-symbian to write a more in depth review of the Nokia E50. Here’s Asri’s report:

Nokia E50 is the youngest in the Eseries family, targeted to business users. It was announced in May 2006. With a very sleek design in a compact form-factor, E50 delivers superb performance. (more…)

Nokia Team Suite - Nokia E50

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

Nokia Team Suite is in my opinion the best new application or feature with the Nokia E50. It should be included on all E-Series devices! It is a shame that such a good application is only available on the Nokia E50.

Team Suite, is a new group collaboration software that is very useful. Team Suite helps organize and facilitate conference calls, initiate push-to-talk sessions with selected team members through a built-in speakerphone.

For a project manager, team lead or anyone who organizes work or even friends and families around "groups" or "teams" this is a godsend.

You can easily create different groups, and as easily populate the groups with members from your address book.

Team Suite will then let you choose one, several or all members of your group to interact with them by conference calls, push-to-talk sessions, sending email or other text messages.

Team Suite, coupled with the fact that the Nokia E50 supports virtually all major mobile enterprise email applications (BlackBerry Connect, Mail For Exchange etc.) makes it an ideal device to use as a "business" phone.

A First Look Inside the Nokia E50

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

As most of us are, I am a creature of habit. Over the past month I have gotten used to the big nice screen of the Nokia E61. Switching to the Nokia E50 means giving up some of that screen size for a smaller and handier device - a trade off I am willing to make on a Sturday or Sunday.

However, it does take some time to get adjusted to the new dimensions.

The Nokia E50 comes with some features and applications I wish was present in the Nokia E61. One of those features is the predictive text input method. Of course, it is more or less an imperative to have predictive text input on a non QWERTY device but I still think it would have been great to have it on the Nokia E61. Anyway - I'm glad that it is a part of the Nokia E50.

Another neat feature is the Text To Speech function which is used by the Message Reader application. Yay, no more reading your messages - let the device read them for you ;-)

A great enhancement is the Notification Light. The notification light of the Nokia E50 is the area around the joystick. Instead of only using the notification light as a new mail notifier as on the Nokia E61, the Nokia E50 has the capability to use it to notify the user of a number of events.

More tomorrow about my favourite new application bundled on the Nokia E50 - Team Suite.

Weekend Phones - Some More Nokia E50 Pr0n

Monday, October 16th, 2006

For good and bad, email is a huge part of my life. Whether I like it or not I can't be away from it.

I normally don't need to reply to email on the weekends but I do need to stay connected and be able to view any email coming in. That is why the idea of an email enabled weekend phone is so appealing to me.

On Monday - Friday I need a QWERTY device so that I can *read and reply* to email. However, on Saturday and Sunday size is a priority and as long as I can *read* email I am fine. I can give up the QWERTY keyboard but not give up the email functionality.

When I say "email" I should clarify that I mean work email - in other words not POP3 based email (for me at least). So I need to be able to use BlackBerry Connect, Mail For Exchange or any other "corporate" email solutions.

Because I can run a program which provides access to and automatically synchronises my corporate email, calendar and contacts between the Nokia E61 and the Nokia E50 I never have to worry about setting up the devices. They are always in sync. Contacts, calendars and email are in harmony on both the devices.

The biggest hassle now of having two devices and one SIM is to have to move it back and forth between the E50 and the E61 ;-) I know, I'm lazy…

Weekend phones - What are your thoughts?

The Family Is Growing - Nokia E50

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

In my search for the perfect weekend phone I decided to get a Nokia E50 from the dependable boys over at Mobile Planet. I've actually had the Nokia E50 for over a month now and primarily used it as my weekend phone.

I have to say that I really, really like this device! I will not give up my Nokia E61 (nor the Nokia E62 for that matter ;-) ) since I am hooked on email and rely on the QWERTY keyboard. However, as a "weekend phone" or a back-up, this device is amazing. It is small and light but the screen is huge. There is something about it that makes it very nice to hold. It's hard to explain it - you have to feel it. The device fits so well in your hands (and in the pocket) but the sensation you get when you hold the Nokia E50 is hard to explain…

I think Elisha on HowardForums came close when she wrote - "its awesome man…..i love it alot. can't keep my hands off it. feels like holding a gold nugget!"

Here are the ritual unboxing photos. More about the Nokia E50, a peek inside and some unique applications for the E50 over the next few days.
