Not New But Still: Yahoo! Go 3.0 for Nokia E61i

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

OK, let me start off with saying that this is by no means something new. I actually wrote this blog post in March but never got around to post.

However, in all fairness to those of you who are die hard Yahoo! fans and don't already know this - Yahoo! Go 3.0 now supports Nokia E61i, among other Eseries devices.

As I have posted previously - I'm not a big fan of Yahoo!'s monolithic approach to mobile applications. There Yahoo! Go application provides access to every possible Yahoo! branded service.

Windows Live Client: Now available in USA and 7 more countries

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

The Windows Live client for Nokia provides great access to Hotmail, MSN IM and Microsoft Windows Live Spaces. The client, which we previously covered in this blog post, is now available in 7 more countries: Hungary, Iceland, India, Israel, Poland, Romania and the USA.

The client is compatible with a number of Nokia devices including the following Eseries devices: Nokia E90, E65, E61i and E51.

So far I have the client has shown up in the downloads folder of my Nokia E51 but nothing yet in my Nokia E61i. I assume it takes some time before it shows up.

To download the application do the following:

Go to the "Download" folder

Go to the "Internet" folder.

Choose "Mail,IM"

More information about the client is also available at Nokia's Windows Live site

I’m Back!

Monday, May 26th, 2008

It's true - I'm back!

Wow, judging by the time stamp from my previous post it's been almost half a year of since I updated the blog!

I think an apology to all my friends and readers is in place.

I do apologize to everyone for dropping off the face of the planet. Thank you for all your comments here on the blog and all your email.

There's been some speculation on the blog as to the reason behind my absence. I've also received a number of questions to this subject.

Must Have Accessories - Chargepod

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

An absolutely brilliant new product, added to my personal list of "must have accessories" is Chargepod.

Many of you readers probably have multiple phones, iPods, bluetooth headsets etc. If you are anything like me your desk is probably cluttered with cables and chargers.

Chargepod can cut down on the clutter, weight and size of alternative mulitple chargers by charging up to six devices at the same time. (more…)

Nokia Beta Labs: Nokia Audiobooks

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Nokia Beta Labs doesn't fail to impress. Nokia is continuing to make a number of interesting applications available for early betas. This time the application is Nokia Audiobooks. A mobile application to play back audio books and a PC companion to manage, edit and create audio book content. I have just downloaded the applications but have yet to try it out. However, it looks very promising.

If you don't own any audio books fear not - there are a lot of audio books in the public domain. AudioBooksForFree.Com and LibriVox have many books available for download.

Download the application and try it out.

Faster, Faster, Faster

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

I did it again. But this time faster. My previous post about using TomTom with a GPS receiver on my Nokia E61 while flying generated a lot of good comments.

I also received  a challenge from Maciek of Symbiosis S60 Blog who used his Nokia N95 to clock in a higher speed than my original 777km/h. Maciek recorded a speed of 874km/h per his post. Another reader - Jay, recorded a speed of 846 km/h

OK Maciek, beat this 1006 km/h

Black Nokia E61i

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

By popular demand, here are some more photos of the Black Nokia E61i.

I so much want one! A question to you readers, has anyone seen the Black Nokia E61i available online? I have gotten word that it is available in certain Asian countries but I haven't found it available online yet.

Pre-Ordered: Nokia E51

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

First thing first - a big apology to all readers for the lack of updates to the blog. I've been completely swamped with work, the house and life in general.

Anyway, i did it! I placed a pre-order for the Nokia E51. It's not that I need a new device, but there were a few features that made me pull the trigger.

The delivery date is (hopefully) soon (read December).

The features, in no particular order, that won me over and made me take out that credit card are:

  • The new icons. They are clear and simple, easy to understand and logical. I am happy that the application key, aka the "Yin-Yang key" is replaced with a "home" key. Finally.
  • Size, design and battery life. Although I normally go for a device with a full qwerty keyboard I still need something smaller, sleeker, thinner but yet equally powerful from a feature/application standpoint, for the weekend. The battery life is impressive 1050 mAh which translates to about 13 days of standby time and 4.4 hours of talk time.

  • One Touch Mute Button. The mute key, which as introduced on the Nokia E65 has gotten a better placement on the side.
  • Scalable Fonts, so that you can finally adjust the font size for various applications, which is part of the new version of Symbian S60 3.1

John McClane’s Nokia E61/2

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

As those of you who have seen the Summer Blockbuster Die Hard 4: Live Free or Die Hard, can tell, John McClane is not only a good Detective but has impeccable taste when it comes to mobile devices ;-)

John and many other characters in the film are using Nokia devices.

Thanks for the photos John McClane!

Metal Striped Nokia E61

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Ericko had his Nokia E61 decorated by the talented guys at Gmask. They created a one of a kind Metal Stripe Nokia E61.

I was hoping that Gmask would have opened a store in China so that I could have had a few of my Eseries devices modded but sadly, they do not have any presence in China, nor USA for that matter. At least not yet.

Last Days Of Vacation

Friday, June 8th, 2007

As my vacation in China is coming to its end, things will be back to normal on this blog by next week.

A big thank you to everyone who wrote to me while on vacation with suggestions of places to go and offering me help and advice. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I took your advice and of course visited, among other places, The Great Wall of China, The Summer Palace, The Temple of Heaven but also the trendy art district 798 (Thanks for the recommendation Sonnny).

I really enjoyed the time here. China is an *amazing* country so filled with contradictions and opposites; modern - old, East - West, high tech - low tech, etc.

I highly recommend anyone to visit this remarkable place.

Vacation

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Last year was spent in Europe but this year we are going to China! Expect fewer updates during the next week and forgive me for taking longer time to reply to questions.

In the meantime you can catch a glimpse of my escapades over at my Flickr

See you soon!

Nokia N95 Dissected

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

I normally try to focus this blog on anything related to Eseries devices but as many of you know I have a morbid curiosity of the innards of handsets and can't say no to some photos of the Nokia N95 disassembled.

Thanks to TJ for sharing.

Lanyard On Your Nokia E61(i)

Monday, May 28th, 2007

It's not so common to see people use mobile phone lanyards / neck straps in the US but it's common and fashionable in many other countries.

Since the Nokia E61(i) doesn't come with built-in support for attaching a lanyard xtemujin took the risk and attached one himself.
