Themes Bonanza

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

One of the most prolific theme designers must be Babi from BabiNokia. Her website is a treasure trove filled with great themes. I have highlighted a few.

If there ever was a theme that made me think of Yahoo! this is it.

Calling All Developers - Please Develop The Following Solution… (I promise to buy a gazillion copies)

I traded some email with a friend about applications we would like to see on Symbian S60 3rd edition, with excellent support for all E-Series devices. We are both fairly new to Symbian but have used other mobile platforms before.

My friend sent me the following email:

It’s probably fair to assume that many of you, that are currently using the European E61 or the North American derivative E62 - have arrived at the world of Nokia, through the likes of Palm.

Nokia E61 & Gmask

Monday, November 27th, 2006

If you want to pimp your Nokia E61 but don’t want to paint it or replace the face plates you could wrap it using decorative plastic film from companies such as Gmask.

Nokia World

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

What a cruel twist of fate. I have an upcoming business trip to Amsterdam. My visit to Amsterdam coincides with an event there called Nokia World. The agenda looks *very* interesting. There are three simultaneous tracks and an expo during breaks and lunches.

There are speakers from Nokia such as CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CTO Tero Ojanperä and guest speakers from Yahoo, TIM, T-Mobile, Orange, Cisco and 70 exhibitors. Among the topics that will be covered are Location Based Services, Enterprise Voice, Connected Music Experience and Web 2.0 & Mobile.

Things got a bit busy last week so Friday came and went with no theme posting. I'm making up for that now by highlighting yet another good theme from Roman Keller.

Radio Round The World

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

It’s a somewhat a surreal feeling sitting in a coffee shop in San Francisco on a Sunday afternoon and one minute listening to a radio station in American Samoa and then next minute listening to a station in Dublin for a few songs before moving on to a number of college radio stations in the UK & USA before ending up on a station in Jordan. All of this on my Nokia E61.

Radio & The Nokia E61

Quite frequently I use my Nokia E61 to listen to the radio. I have posted about this a few times before. Neil sent me a great, simple way to start listening to UK & Irish radio stations on your Nokia E61 through a website called RadioFeeds To Go.

I Want One

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

I absolutely, positively, cannot justify buying this one since I already have the Nokia E50 but in another colour. However, that doesn't stop me from drooling over the beautiful black Nokia E50. Why is it that gadgets in black colour look so much better Undecided

While on the topic of Nokia E50, Nico wrote a good review of the device here

I *heart* Mail2Web LIVE

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

You can’t beat free. Especially when what you get is a great, useful product or service. One such a great service I stumbled across is Mail2Web LIVE. A free email service based on Microsoft Exchange. Because it is Microsoft Exchanged based, and Mail For Exchange is available as a free download for your Nokia E-Series device you can get free push email on your device.

Messaging Tip

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

By judging from the search queries that bring traffic to e-series.org I think there is a big increase in the number of readers who are new to Nokia’s E-Series devices. I suspect that many of those readers have the Nokia E62 and might not be as familiar with S60 3rd edition or the Nokia E-Series devices as “long” time readers are.

Here’s a tip from Vinit, especially* for new Nokia E62 users - How to reduce the steps needed to create a text message.

Nokia E62 - How To Solve “Certificate Error”

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

A reader pointed out the inconsistency between the Nokia E61 and the Nokia E62 in regards to solving the issue of “Certificate Error” when installing applications and themes. Since the “Certificate Error” is the most commonly asked question I thought I should highlight this again, for the benefit of our new readers whom I suspect are Nokia E62 users.

VoIP In The Enterprise - A Revolution To Come

Monday, November 13th, 2006

This is the first installment in a series on the topic on VoIP in the Enterprise. It is written by Trevor who works in the field of telecommunication. Nokia introduced the promise of the Eseries devices as phones for the enterprise. Using these phone models to replace someone’s office desk phone, allowing people to have two phone numbers assigned to their mobile phone, one as a ‘mobile number’ and the other as the ‘desk number’ seems to be Nokia’s VoIP goal with the Eseries. Here’s more on how this will play out from Trevor.

VoIP in the Enterprise.

Over the last few years many large customers have been installing VoIP (Voice over IP) solutions to gain the cost saving benefits, that include but are not limited to reduced MAC charges and toll bypass. The down side of VoIP is the handsets, which do little more than traditional phones at a much higher cost.

Great Things To Come - Native Salling Clicker For Nokia E61

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

For the past week or so I have been fortunate enough to been part of the beta program for the next version of Salling Clicker. (For those of you who are unfamiliar with this A*M*A*Z*I*N*G piece of software you can read an earlier post about SC or go to Salling Clicker)

I can't disclose any details of the new version except that it is a native S60 3rd edition software and it is even better than previous versions.

Keep up the excellent work Jonas!
