How I Would Revamp The Phone Book Application

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Tommi over at S60.com brought up an interesting topic - How Would You Revamp The Phonebook… Or Would You?

My answer is yes, without any doubt.

As much as I like the Nokia's Eseries devices, and I really do, there are changes I would like to see in future products. Per Tommi's post, let's focus on the phonebook and hope he can bring our suggestions to the right people within S60.

The main issue I have with the phonebook application on the Eseries devices is that it feels rather weak as the phone book of an Enterprise device.

As an Eseries user I expect the phonebook to be able to handle hundreds and even thousands of address entries.

It should also be able to display these entries and let me interact with the information in the address book in a really intuitive and simply brilliant way.

Here are a few changes I would like to see on the phonebook application of the Eseries.

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

First up in this week's batch of themes for your Nokia E61 is "Dots". Dots is one of the official themes included on the new Eseries devices (E65, E61i and E90).

Next up are two great themes from aco_kuna. These themes are technically not for the Nokia E61 but they are too good to pass on.

New Version of Nokia Sports Tracker

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

I just can't stop raving about Nokia Sports Tracker and there is already a new version available - V1.37.

If you have enabled "Check for updates" you should get a new version notification when you start up the application.

For some reason it didn't work on my device so I just downloaded and installed the new version.

The Camera on Nokia E65

Monday, March 19th, 2007

I have received a few questions regarding the camera on the Nokia E65 and thought I should share some sample photos taken with the Nokia E65.

The camera on the device is a 2 megapixel camera. While this is not going to impress the pixel hunters who might compare the camera on the Nokia E65 to the camera of the Nokia N93 and the Nokia N95, I found that the camera of the Nokia E65 takes great pictures.

Friday Themes - Back By Popular Demand

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Roman Keller is an amazing theme designer who used to create great themes for Nokia E61. However, he switched devices and got himself a nice, black Nokia E50.

Since then there has been no new themes coming from Roman with support for Nokia E61. However, that might change as Roman is looking for testers with the Nokia E61 for his themes.

In the meanwhile, here are two great themes, technically not for the E61 but they are so stunning that I don't care that they appear a bit "streched"

Roman, you are very talented~!

Some of the best things in life are free - Nokia Sports Tracker application

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Just as I was about to start summarizing my 30 day Nokia Wellness Diary (challenge) I came across an amazing application thanks to JKa - Nokia Sports Tracker.

This application has everything I wanted to see in the Wellness Diary - more focus on exercise tracking and support for GPS. This application is so very, very cool! Exactly what I have been looking for.

I don't know what excites me the most - how cool this application is or the fact that is available for free thanks to the amazing Nokia Research Center.

Nokia Sports Tracker is a GPS based exercise tracker which collects information such as speed, distance and time. The information is automatically stored to a training diary and can be displayed in a variety of ways.

Inside Nokia E65 - Mini Review

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

I've now used the Nokia E65 as my primary device for a few weeks and thought I should share some screen shots and initial impressions of the device.

Much have been written and said about the gorgeous form factor, the unique keys on the front of the Nokia E65 and the great sliding mechanism. Therefore I will look at the device mainly from a software perspective.

One of my favourite new features of the device is the the enhanced Active Standby. Nokia has implemented some subtle changes to Active Standby that is a GREAT improvement from an end user standpoint.

Cha, Cha, Changes…

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

After more than three hundred posts, seven thousand comments, nearly fifty thousand photos viewed on Flickr and well over a million of visits to this blog, it's time for me to slow down a bit.

I will not quit updating the blog but rather slow down and update it less frequently. Perhaps I will keep it to weekly updates. I need to rearrange my professional and personal priorities and it leaves me with less time for E-series.org.

In the meanwhile some of my favourite blogs and good friends keep on blogging:

Symbian Guru, See Into S60, Tommi's Application Blog, S60 Tips, Darla Mack, SymbianV3, All About Symbian, and RingNokia

Thank you everyone~!

Desperately Seeking Disappearing DST Patch

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Last week I posted about the DST patch that Nokia made available for the Eseries devices.

The patch was created due to the fact that daylight saving time starts three weeks early in the US and ends one week late. Two days later, and before I had time to patch my devices, the DST patch mysteriously disappeared without a word.

The patches are no longer available for download from the Eseries' product pages.

Five Reasons Why I Like Widsets

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

With the risk of sounding like a broken record (I have written about Widsets several times before) here is my list of why I really like Widsets - the company behind, stunningly beautiful mobile Widgets.

Continuous improvement
I was very impressed with the first release of Widsets, which I wrote about back in June 2006 (If you are new to Widsets I recommend you start with that post, it will give you a good overview of what Widsets are).

Since then, Widsets have gone through a number of enhancements each one gradually improving the service. The last enhancement I wrote about was in September 2006. Since September the Widsets team have been busy working on the library of Widsets, the application itself and enhancement to  the website. Which leads us to next reason..great website.

Great Website
I really, really like their website. It is simple, beautiful AND very functional.  A pretty amazing combination to pull off. So many websites are either beautiful or functional. Some websites are simple but not beautiful.

The first theme of the week is once again from Good ol' Phil, PTWS, who has made some changes to a previously created theme "Saku" to come up with a simple yet stylish theme called "Mask"
