As reported by various blogs, Nokia is gearing up for a big event in London this week called Nokia: Go Play

The teaser for the event reads as follows:

There will be a live webcast of the press conference and panel discussion August 29th 10:00 AM UK Time. More information on the Go Play press page.

Oh yeah, there is also a party in the evening to which yours truly received an invitation. Thanks Nokia!

About Freakin’ Time..

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

It's about time for some Nokia Eseries themes!

I know, I know, "Friday Themes" is a good tradition, appreciated by many readers. I've neglected the theme posts. Normally these posts take so much time to put together. Sometimes I spend half a day trawling the internet for good themes, testing them out, getting screen shots etc. Anyway, since I've been extremely busy with work lately I just haven't had the time and energy.

But fear not, the theme posts are not going away.

Nokia E70

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

One of the most under appreciated Eseries devices in my opinion is the Nokia E70. The device has all the required features; camera, WiFi, expandable memory, 3G etc. The Nokia E70 also run the most important software including corporate email applications such as Mail For Exchange, BlackBerry Connect etc. All in all it is a very capable device.

But my favorite feature is the fold-out, full QWERTY keyboard.

Mail For Exchange 2.0

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Bring out the cake and celebrate, Mail For Exchange hits the big TWO DOT OH!

This is by no means a minor update. This is a big step forward for an already solid application.

Nokia released a new version of its implementation of Microsoft's Exchange Activesync technology - Mail For Exchange 2.0

The new version of Mail For Exchange introduces many new features. Some of these new features are:

  • Support for accept/decline of received meeting requests.
  • Global Address List (GAL) lookup
  • Task synchronization -server tasks are listed in the calendar.
  • In device search - the search application on ESeries devices will search for content in Mail forExchange emails synchronized to the device.
  • Additional support for Nokia Nseries devices -MFE is compatible with Nokia N73, N76 and N95
  • The application is now installed in a separate folder called - MfE
  • and more…

Upgrading from any previous version to Mail for Exchange 2.0 requires that you perform a Full Resync. This is required to utilize the new Task synchronization feature.

Start the Mail for Exchange application and select Options > Full resync.

White Nokia E65

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Two months ago I wrote about my feeble attempt to replace the housing of my Nokia E65. My goal was to transform my Mocca Nokia E65 to a Red Nokia E65 using an original red Nokia E65 housing.

The end result wasn't what I had expected but still not too bad. Because of the complexity involved in changing the housing of the Nokia E65 I had to give up midway and ended up with a one of a kind Red AND Mocca Nokia E65.

However, there are those out there who managed to completely change the housing of the Nokia E65.

Dimi, in Australia, sent me photos of her transformed Nokia E65. It started out as a Red Nokia E65 and through some modding turned out to the below White Nokia E65 - a real beauty in my eyes.

(Please) Remind Me

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Sometimes you can be missing something without even knowing it.

Something simple that you perhaps didn't even think of but when you find it you wonder how you ever could get along without it.

Such is the case for me and the amazing little application called Remind Me

The application was created by the developer, MobiFun Software, as a direct result of a suggestion from an end user - the way it should work when you are a small, nimble and talented software developer.

The application let's you set up a number of different reminders for events such as received voice mail, missed calls, received SMS/MMS and of course email.

Nokia Eseries @ 777km/h

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Inspired by a previous post on this blog about the Nokia E61i in the air, I decided to try something similar.

Bored out of my mind on a flight back from Redmond, I took out my Nokia E61i, paired it with my GPS module and fired up TomTom to see where we were flying and how fast we were going.

Spare Parts For Nokia Eseries

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

My Nokia E61i is amazing! I have dropped the device on concrete, tile and asphalt and it is still going strong. Not even a noticeable scratch!

I thought I killed the device for good the other day when it slid down from the roof of my car. (I put it balancing on a bunch of books on the car roof) But despite the fall it worked great. It didn't even drop the call I was on!

However, it is good to know that there are several online vendors specializing in selling (original) spare parts for Nokia Eseries devices. Among the parts you can buy are keyboards, LCD displays, Nokia Eseries housing, microphones, camera, speakers etc.

Colours - Plum Nokia E61i

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Hot on the heels of the previous post, here is another example of Nokia Eseries in various colours.

Not sure whether this is a photo of a customized paint job, third party casing, a coming colour or a limited test run of a Nokia E61i.

Customizable Nokia E90: Red Wine & Carbon Fibre

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

I just placed my order for a Nokia E90! while I stuck with the stylish but "traditional" Mocca Nokia E90, I just discovered that there are more colourful options available.

If you are of the more adventurous kind and like to flaunt it - you can personalise the Nokia E90 with unique company colours and logos as well as unique inscriptions on the device. You can even get the device protected using ScratchGuard coating of your choice.

The price for a Nokia E90 customized to the looks of your likings is 999.90 Euro's from the Finnish electronic retailer Verkkokauppa.

One more plug - take a look at this hilarious post from the E-Ninety blog :-)

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

I've come across some good collections of url's for mobile optimized websites before but this one, PDA Mobile Sites at Cantoni.org, is really good and very extensive.

It is categorized so that you can find the relevant links to business, information, entertainment sites etc.

Alternative Yahoo! Email Access

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

As several readers have pointed out, the newly released Yahoo! Go 2.0 for Nokia Eseries is somewhat sluggish and a bit bloated from a memory consumption point of view.

So what are the alternatives if your favourite colour is Purple and can't live without access to your Yahoo! email from your Nokia Eseries device?

Well, it depends.

If you live in a region where Yahoo! allows POP3 access you can use the same settings for the native client on your Nokia Eseries device. However, in the US and some other regions POP3 access is not standard and part of a "premium" package.

You might still be in luck if your carrier has an agreement with Yahoo! and possibly also provided you with access to Yahoo! email through Seven Always On or some other third party application.

However, if you can't access Yahoo! through POP3 or through your operator you might want to try out the following IMAP settings to access Yahoo! email on your Eseries device.
