Nokia E61 & Wireless Headphones

Since I use my Nokia E61 as my iPod Nano replacement I decided it was time to get some great headphones.

I really liked my previous set-up but I wanted to go wireless. Logitech's FreePulse Wireless headphones will set me free. No more cables for me :-)

The headphones are made of a high carbon spring-steel headband and is very lightweight, yet solid. The headsets also comes with a plug-in module (providing the bluetooth connectivity). The plug-in module is the part with the blue headlight ;-)

Although the headphones are made for iPods it works great with the Nokia E61.

Aren’t you missing one point, that the E61 doesn’t support A2DP, so it wont be stereo sound.

    How do they sound anyway

  2. admin Says:

    Hi GL,
I don’t use the bluetooth of the Nokia E61 - that’s what the bluetooth dongle is for :-) It’s part of the Logitech Freepulse headphones package.
    The sound is great.

  3. Marcello Azambuja Says:

Just to let you know, I tried the E61 with Sony’s bluetooth stereo headset (SONY DRBT10CX) and the sound was really crap.

But since you’re not using E61’s bluetooth profile your case is totally diferent. Good to know we have a decent wireless option. :)

  4. admin Says:

Thanks for the information Marcello. It’s not the most elegant solution (see the little BT dongle) but it works great for me. I can’t complain about the sound.

  5. ericko Says:

I used ad 46 and sennheisser PX 100, and the sound was moderate compared with Nokia 7710 using the same headset.
Have you tested the headset using Ipod nano?
    what’s your firmware version?
    mine is v. 3

    Hi Ed,

Can you please let me know if MSI blueplayer works with this??

Nokia— we want a new firmware with A2DP and AVRCP profiles…PLEASE!!!

  9. wouterk Says:

Great to see no cables! :)
I have a bluetooth stereo headset from Motorolla but too bad the E61 is no A2DP profile so only mono.
Nice to see that there is a different solution available!
    Some questions though:
Can you use the headsets for incoming calls also?
Can you control the mediaplayer on the E61 using the headset?
And one final question: Were does the bluetooth dongle connect? In the power inlet?

this is the url for the product http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2412,CONTENTID=12492 and it plugs into a 3.5mm socket, so i assume you will need a pop port adaptor as well.

The seem to be no dimensios for the headphones as i have tried to buy headphones like this and have too big a head for them…

  12. remizyaka Says:

    wow!
    super!

it don’t use buggy e61 bluetooth. and it willbe stereo cause it use own dongle with own bluetooth profiles. It also can be used with any music player or with PC for example.
    The best Solution!

Do you use the motorola headset with your e61? how does it sound? hos the quality? i love motorola`s headset. its a shame the e61 dos not support A2DP. could a firmware upgrade do the trick?

    regards.

    Luis

  14. wouterk Says:

    Hi Luis,

The motorolla headset is great! Well, that’s what I think of it. Worked like a charm with my K-Jam (Windows Mobile Phone Edition). But it works mono with my E61 so I don’t use it now.
I especially liked the phone quality of the headset. Not much problem with windy (Holland…) conditons when on my bike! :)
I don’t think that there will be a firmware for the E61 supporting A2DP but it would certainly be possible.

  15. vlens Says:

very nice… but you cant skip songs, pause and play etc, right?

  16. will Says:

i have been using the Plantronics Pulsar 590a with my e61 for the past 9months or so and really like them, great sound, both for streaming radio (mono) and for podcasts etc. can use them with a small dongle also

just switched to the e61i about 10 days ago and they work great with that also

lastly also picked up the new moto rkr s9s, they are very cool, but the audio out of the e61i is very poor and only through one ear

they do work great using a2dp on the insignia bluetooth mp3 player though

  17. Headsets reviews Says:

We will soon have an article about the new Philips Bluetooth wireless stereo headsets. So far I have tested them and they look very good.

  18. David O. Says:

Are you using a pop-port to female stereo jack adapter? Then plugging in the wireless receiver from logitech? What pop-port adapter are you using?

  19. Dogmann Says:

    Hi all

well as recent convert to the E61 and coming from a N93 i am using the same memory card with all my Music and Videos and i must say having used various bluetooth stereo headset solutions my preference is still for a wired solution.
I was using the AD-46 with Shure EC2 headphones on the N93 and now on the E61. All of my Music is stored in Nokia Music Manger and has been converted to 160kbps AAC and the sound is rich and detailed and certainly not lacking in either volume or clarity. yes i know it is wired but find that less inconvenient then have a dongle attached to a 3.5mm adapter as really that is a long way from being a wireless solution between device and headphones, i also prefer ear canal type headphones as opposed to over ear style which is just my preference of course.

  21. Josh Says:

Are you able to answer and conduct phone calls as well? Or is it just for listening to music?

  22. iN10Se Says:

    Hey Admin,

Can you answer these questions that wouterk asked earlier?

“Can you use the headsets for incoming calls also?
Can you control the mediaplayer on the E61 using the headset?”

Im thinking of picking the headset up but I would love to be able to control playback from the headphones. Thanks in advance :)

  23. The Stern Ern Says:

I use an e61 and just picked up a pair of the Plantronics 590a bluetooth headphones. However, when I connect the headphones directly to the phone, I get no sound out of phone calls, music or videos. I have used other bluetooth headphones connected directly to the phone (without the use of any dongles) with great success, and hoped that the Plantronics would give me the sound quality that I wanted.

Anyone encountered this before / have a solution? Will from April?

  24. ngawang losang Says:

i have e61i with Jabra620s audio headset using e61’s build in bluetooth, and i can start, stop, pause, skip tracks, fast forward/reverse using the headset without touching the phone. Just for your info.

  25. Eivind Tandberg Says:

It should not be neccessary to discuss this- software could solve this, and it does. Follow the link below for my a2dp implementation for the e series..

    ha ha..

actually, someone should have come up with it, because it is already solved through blueplayer! Shame on you NOKIA

  26. Narayanan Says:

ngawang losang , You said you were able to skip, start, pause etc. how about stereo sound? I am asking this since, to my knowledge, E61i does not have A2DP support. By your statement, it is proven that AVRCP is supported. I am now curious to know how the stereo music is heard. is it a mono sound heard on both ears or a stereo sound heard on both ears or a mono sound on one ear?

    Thanks,
    Narayanan

The official Black version of the E61i is out. I just saw it @ Changi Airport in Singapore yesterday. Does anyone have any photos of it?

    Cheers!
